10 days dry. The first week was tough -- terrible, awful cravings!! So tempted. But it's getting easier with each day. The scale hasn't really budged yet, but I'm hopeful that will change in time. Good job to all who working on reducing or abstaining. Thanks for sharing your struggles, successes, etc.!7

I have been abstaining since July 24 and it took a few weeks for scale to change, but it did. I finally was able to break my plateau from mid-May. Be patient!

Hanging out with the neighbors tonight and I could smell the beer they were drinking and really wanted to partake. I busied myself by playing with my daughter and talking with them and the craving went away.
I feel like I keep having realizations about drinking. My most recent one is that I actually don't like drinking and eating good food together. I much prefer eating good food without the liquor so I can actually savor the food. I get so full when I'm trying to do both and it's not enjoyable to me.
Any recent realizations from others?
Great job to everyone that has been chiming in! Tomorrow's a new day if today didn't go exactly right.5 -
Last night was a walk to Georgetown with my wife, 2 glasses of wine with dinner, and a long walk home. That's the first alcohol I've had since last Sunday. I'm calling that a win.8

Last night I had two glasses of sake at a birthday dinner. I stopped when everyone else moved on to after-dinner drinks. I can't believe I'm hungover this morning from two glasses of wine. Well, good - that will put me off drinking for the rest of the weekend.6

I always think alcohol stinks so bad after having none for awhile, last night my hubs' beer breath was making me gag! Thats a good thing I think haha6

I'm in. Looking to reduce my intake. I don't want to give it up completely but I want to limit it.2

Hi. I would love to join this. I used to be able to have a couple of drinks on the weekend and none during the week. But in the last 4 yrs since my layoff after 17 yrs on the job, caring for my parents, and both of their passings, I have found myself to be drinking more. I'd like to go back to the couple on the weekends again as well as getting back into a regular exercise routine.4

Hello, I'm fairly new and would love to be part of this group. My weight has increased greatly (30 lbs) due to too much alcohol. Sunday was my last drink. I can't remember the last time I went 5 days alcohol-free and I've lost 2.5 lbs since Monday! I want to keep it up and be of support to others, too! Please add me if you think I'd be okay for the group!7

Everyone is welcome! Whether you are trying to quit, reduce or moderate alcohol. We all are on MFP because we want to be healthy. We are all here to support one another no matter what your goals are.7 -
I am not finding this too hard but I have not had any social outings which involved drinking. Last time I went sober for a month I avoided all parties or occasions that would involve drinking. I like this thread. Helps knowing others are doing this and have struggled.5

Just posted this whole long thing and it did not submit. I went shopping instead of drinking for the football game!! I had a friend text me and asked me if I was drinking and I told her no not until I have somewhere to go which is on the 23rd she just texted back oh OK she doesn't care about her health or her weight well she does but not enough to do anything about it sorry but you're not bringing me down!4

For those are still struggling...consider just starting to track your drinking. Maybe do it on a calendar or on a spreadsheet for yourself. It was pretty eye opening to me, and also helped me start noticing patterns. I'm still a work in progress and not sure where I will end up on the (moderation/abstinence) spectrum...but I do know that I want to be healthy.
And whatever is going on in your life, please know that you are not alone, and small steps count!

Good for you! It's interesting how people react sometimes. I had a friend treat me like I had the plague when I went alcohol free for August. When she heard I wasn't drinking in September, she got weird too. I've come to realize, it says more about her than me. She has replaced me with another drinking buddy and I am okay with that While the jury is out on whether I am going to give up wine forever or just for the rest of this month, I do have health and wellness goals and wine always derails those.6 -
I don't drink much anyways. I'm in.4

Sober for 18 months. Best decision I have ever made.11

Just wanted to say, way to go for taking the first step to a healthier YOU! We have one life let's make it a good one. And one body let's do the things we thought we could never do, do the things we think we can't do and push ourselves to see HOW FAR WE CAN GO and to become a better YOU!!4
