If anyone wants to join in and share in our nutritional support thread please pop in. Vent or come challenge us to eat a nice healthy dish of your choosing- but you gotta eat it with us. We're still feeling out how to best make of this thread so all ideas welcome.
Don't let the holiday food get the drop upswing on you this season.
But.... EEEEEGGGGG NOOOOOOGGGG is calling!
You like the grossest things
Runners like pie.
You are just jealous that I have reasonable tastebuds!3 -

@ PastorVincent Glad to know I'm not the only one judging random strangers running :-D I've seen some things that really make me scratch my head. Like people who don't move their arms at all, for example. And yes, people who run "like girls". LOL
My husband runs like this. I have tried for years to get him to engage his upper half. I gave up this year after he was diagnosed with spinal arthritis. Maybe that's why.0 -

I'm sure everybody has their reasons. I try to at least keep comments to myself so as not to discourage newbie runners who are paranoid people are making fun of them. Ha! I used to only run only in undeveloped subdivisions (the ones where they poured the roads but hadn't built a single house because of the housing market crash). But seriously, running is hard and if you're out there at all I APPLAUD YOU!4 -
Have you seen the elite Japanese runners? They keep their arms low with very little swing. It looks awkward, but I guess they believe it conserves energy.3

Rest day! O holy Rest Day! My left heel is SUPER tight so I brought a yoga strap to work to stretch my heels, calves and feet under my desk during calls. I am planning to get a deep tissue massage a week before my marathon after my last Hanson workouts and long run, so until then I am trying to keep this tightness at bay with foam rolling and stretching, but oh Lordy, does a massage sound amazing right about now...
But since I can't treat myself to a massage (yet), I'm leaving work a tad early to see a showing of mother! because I don't have to hurry home to go workout or go for a run. Hooray! Maybe that'll get my HR up a bit

@cburke8909 @lporter229 @MobyCarp and @JessicaMcB thanks for the feedback on the knee! I'm probably going to make an ortho appt, but give it a few days of rest to see how it does. I've been icing as well, and using my stick thingy to roll my leg, and taking ibuprofen to reduce any possible inflammation. Planning on some cross training this evening. Fingers crossed I'm able to nip this in the bud and keep moving.
Also, I am totally with @PastorVincent - egg nog is delicious!!!2 -
I am pro-pie, anti-egg nog.3
-
The real question is: eggnog hot or eggnog cold?1
-
@PatorVincent and others on the eggnog. Hood makes a Pumpkin flavored eggnog that is a must have for my holidays. It's a little too much straight out of the bottle so I thin it out with a one to one mixture of 2% milk. I'll also add a 1/4 cup of the nog to my coffee which is quite yummy.1

17.54 of 30 miles
Whew, that 2.50 miles were tough on tight muscles last night. But, K. and I got it done so that's what counts. I'll be glad when I can pick up on the speed a little bit (never been fast but am super, super slow right now). I know it'll come but it's frustrating when a fast walker could probably out"run" me now. Oh, well, but at least I'm back out there again!7 -

Skip had a meet yesterday, the Mud Run here's a few pictures, I love the finish with the fist in the air, right after that she started to sprint again but she said she could see her time 22:10 and though it's not a PR she said she felt so strong the entire race she was so happy. The two girls behind her she passed at the end.
Off to read the thread!

@KatieJane83 I had a wicked bout with ITBS confirmed by the PT. It started off as I slight ache that came and went and I didn't pay much attention to it. One day I was about 4 miles into my run and the pain came so hard and so sharp I screamed and sat right down in the street. Luckily Skip was with me and after a bit I was able to walk home with her. I ended up with 8 weeks of PT and during the first 2 weeks honestly couldn't get past a mile. He said, like I think Mobycarp mentioned, it's a repetitive injury and that I needed to work on the hip strength to help it. From time to time I get a little ouch from it, sort of a pinch. If it doesn't stop I stop, 99.9% of the time it stops and no other problem. The pain would radiate down to my shin and up to my thigh. I would go see someone, I could hardly drive my car because pushing on the gas hurt.
@HonuNui 5' turtle wow!
@kgirlhart I keep saying to her can you please place higher to save me money on shirts? @JessicaMcB I love the idea with the baby clothes

September Running Totals (miles)
9/1 to 9/19 – injury, rest, PT, some cycling, lots of frustration
9/20 – 2.03 easy
September running total to date – 2.03
Nominal challenge goal: 1 mile
Real goals: Get healthy enough to run again. [cleared to run 9/20] Make a final decision on whether to register for Boston 2018. [registered, hotel reservation made]
Today's notes – Saw the podiatrist today. Part of the sound track was, it's time to exercise through some discomfort so I can get better. Another part was, "We usually tell people to walk a quarter mile, then build that up, and do some short run walk intervals but not do too much too soon. But you're so far beyond that we don't have a plan specifically for you."
So I came home, put on my running clothes, and went out to run a quarter mile. Still felt good, told myself I'd run a half mile. By a half mile, I told myself I'd stop at 2 miles because that's a warmup. And I stopped close enough to 2 miles. Absent the sound track from the podiatrist, I would have stopped earlier; but the discomfort was really a lot less than what I ran through to come back from Achilles tendinitis last year.
So I made my goal for the month today. Next up, be able to pace 8 miles at 8:00 per mile by September 30. It seems really attainable. Now I need to sit on my hands for a while before registering for any October races.

@MobyCarp AWESOME!!!!! Super happy you are back running again!0

01/09 4.53 miles
13/09 3.82 miles
14/09 4.07 miles
15/09 3.78 miles
16/09 3.74 miles
20/09 3.82 miles It got dark before 8pm this evening. I wasn't expecting it so most of my run was in the dark. I had my hi-viz on but no torch. I don't mind running in the dark as it can be very peacefully, just wasn't expecting it.
I love doughnuts too - custard, jam, chocolate coated, iced, hot, cold- yum yum!

lporter229 wrote: »Also saw that @MobyCarp bit the bullet and registered for Boston. I knew you would do it. Today is my registration day and I am going to bite the bullet too. Mostly because my husband wants to go back and that makes me feel really good to know that he enjoyed it as much as I did. Of course, my odds of actually getting in this year are still pretty slim, so I will just have to wait and see. And then I maybe I might have that spark of motivation I have been looking for to get my butt back in gear.
Quietly lurking here to find out about you and @mobycarp. Glad you pulled the trigger as well as it'll be nice to meet up there (got my acceptance email a bit ago) if the BAA doesn't do too much cutting to the field size. Keeping my fingers crossed for you..
Mostly lounging around this month (w. 30 miles of total running) as I'm coming off a late August Ironman (missed Kona by 1 place, but was 21st overall with a 10:16 / 3:33 hot 92 degree marathon at the end), and the Ironman 70.3 World Championships (new forerunner 935 fell off 2 minutes into the swim - but finished 151/405 with a solid bike and decent 1:37 run).
I'll re-join the challenge next month once my mind is back into training/racing mode and will likely jump into a late fall marathon (Philly or Vegas) as I'd like to lock in a slot at NYC for next year.3 -
@Ohhim you've been busy. Sorry to hear about your forerunner falling off! Missing Kona by 1 place still makes you awesome. Really cool. Great job at Ironman 70.3!0

I like it either way, but prefer it hot with some nutmeg on top. I really, really like the eggnog coffee creamer, but it seems to go so quickly that if I don't stock up on it when it first comes out, then I'm SOL.
... and @Elise4270 I like pie too... and donuts... and probably most things that aren't good for me, but I have learned to eat in moderation... or run more so I can splurge more...4 -

9/20/17 - 7.03 - Easy
Total 113.42 of 180 Miles
Yesterday was an easy 5 recovery. Today was an "easy" 7 mile foundation run. There really wasn't anything easy about it with the oppressive humidity we've had the past few days. Temps were about 75-77 degrees by the time I finished and humidity was 85%. Looking at our 7 day forecast it doesn't appear that it's going to improve until early next week, then it'll rain. Looking at the remainder of the month I might miss the goal by a few miles unless I swap out my Sunday long run to Saturday the 30th.3 -
I had eggnog for the first time last Christmas. My daughter brought her boyfriend and I asked what he liked at Christmas and she said eggnog. I had never had it before. I didn't know you could have eggnog hot.
It was pretty good, but if I had to choose I'd go with pie. Unless it was coconut pie. But pumpkin, sweet potato, key lime, chocolate or lemon pie are always worth the calories to me.
I'm debating about taking today as a weather/rest day. It is so freaking hot! My weather app says 99F feels like 104F. Tomorrow should be a lot better.
@MobyCarp Glad to see you are cleared to start running again!3 -
@skippygirlsmom that daughter of yours..wow! she's becoming quite the beautiful woman! I'm glad she had a great race!
@MobyCarp fantastic that you're running again!
@ohhim great showing in the Ironman!
I like eggnog but after one or two sips, I'm done. Too rich for me. And the pumpkin spice craze that comes around every fall...leave me out, unless it's pumpkin pie. Even then I'd rather have pecan pie.
My son's first varsity start was a success. They won handily 6-1. The one goal the opposing team scored came when our defender made a poor pass back to my son. The opposition attacker make a move for the ball and my son had to come out of the box to try to get the ball. They both arrived and kicked it at the same time. The ball bounced up and back and the spin on the ball put it in the net. I was bummed he lost his "clean sheet" but overall he had a very good game. Hopefully he gets another chance to start this season.

Thank you for sharing your experience with this! That's one of the reasons I thought IT band, because I had just the slightest bit of it radiating into the thigh and shin. Def going to make an appt. Better safe than sorry!1 -

@katiejane83 I'll keep my fingers crossed it's nothing to worry about.
@7lenny7 thank you very much. I still can't believe she's a senior. All of her friends had these professional "casual" pictures done and she said Mom can you take mine? She wants to do a few places around town each season and pick what she likes best for her senior announcements. She actually cleans up pretty good ha ha these are two of my favorites. Sounds like your son had an awesome game!! Congrats to him

I'm sorry, but y'all can have my shares of all the eggnog and all the pumpkin, LOL.
