Today's notes: ELY MARATHON!!!!!
Today was one of those days where pace meant nothing, time meant nothing, it was all about the finish and time spent with my mom and brother.
Weather this morning wasn't great, about 65 with 90% humidity, as we headed out on the bus to the starting line. My mom was nervous, she hadn't gone this far before. Neither had my brother, but he didn't show any nerves. I had TONS of nerves. I had talked both of them into this race and I wanted their first 26.2 to be both memorable and a happy introduction to marathon distance.
The run itself went well. We started off around 11:30 pace and slowed down some through the first half. it was sticky out, and the humidity was nailing all of us. We started taking walking breaks early, to save energy and help the two marathon newbes through the race.
As the race went on, we walked more and more, and finally just kept walking the last 7 miles or so. Mom has MS, and the heat especially gets to her. Our goal was a finish. I kept reminding her that as "slow" as she was going, what she was accomplishing was more than most people will ever know.
We kept at it and, finally, we were in downtown Ely, it was cool/eerie, the streets were totally empty, and we had them to ourselves. Finally, after a last turn we could see the finish. Despite being totally exhausted, mom put on a great show, running in the last bit through to the finish chute as the announcer called her and my brother's names and congratulated them for completing their first marathons, something I set up a couple days ago. Official time: 6:24:32 for mom, I was one second behind her, and my brother was one second behind me. We all got our medals and our post-race beers. It was a great day.
I'm feeling GREAT right now, one small blister on my left foot, but that's it. I'm feeling so happy about today. As of a week ago, my mom had huge doubts about whether or not she could do this, and she did. I really just can't say how happy I am that she toughed it out when it was hard and got her 26.2 medal.
I hope everyone had a Runderful day!

Stay hydrated!

Disappointed, I had to cancel my Jimmy Fund walk today. My dad is dealing with stomach issues. Thankfully it's not anything too serious.0
-
Was supposed to be a long, slow run today. Despite advice, I couldn't stand to leave the app at home but I referred to it only for distance. Next time I will use a different strategy. I tried to imagine myself chatting and could have talked throughout the 10-mile run, but in the end, my pace was still faster than I think it should have been.
Orrrrrr maybe I'm not pushing hard enough on my short runs.

13 slow and easy miles with the running group this morning. I got to use my new fancy running watch for the first time. My mom gave me a TomTom Spark 3 yesterday as an early birthday present. It was so nice running without having to mess with my phone. The GPS on my phone gets so buggy on long runs.
Oh, here is a warning just in case you were not aware. Stopping at the doughnut shop on the way back from a long run can be dangerous . I officially bought all the things.
148.5/175 (September goal miles)
Upcoming Races:
10/28 = Hill Country Halloween Half Marathon
12/10 = BCS Marathon
1/6/18 = River Road Run Half Marathon11 -
I haven't had a chance to check in here in almost 2 weeks - I am so far behind I am not sure I can get caught up before the end of the month I have been so busy with work and wedding stuff. I really never thought the last 2 weeks would end up as the perfect storm of work being OMG busy and all of the wedding things hitting to get done. I really should heave taken it all off as vacation! I did manage to fit in some running, had to, it was the only thing helping me keep my sanity! I am heading to Seattle today and optimistically taking running gear with me. I am hoping to at least get a couple of runs in before the chaos starts in earnest on Wednesday I am not taking a PC (work or otherwise) with me but will have my iPad so hopefully I can go back and catch up on how everyone is doing.

No goal for me this month, alas. This past week was just too hot. I should have gone out myself at dawn then walked while my daughter biked, but was persuaded to wait for her instead. Ten minutes in, she declared herself done and asked me to turn around at the mile bridge.
On the plus side, I saw a cute little green snake poking his head out of the half-mile bridge.

Currently afraid of the shower. I've given birth to three babies, but something about a shower when you forgot body glide for your long, summer-weather run is the absolute worst. Le sigh ...6

@juliet3455 thank you so much you made me cry. I’ve been a single mom to Skip since I adopted her at a year old and it’s not always easy being a single parent, but it’s very rewarding.
@dbhawkins1010 I love the “environmental” name! We will do a bunch a track too. Please post some of your daughter!
Skip had a great meet yesterday, she ran in the “championship” division running a 22:37 finishing 42 I think. Second meet in the row she looked so strong the whole race. I think the electrolyte water might have been the secret.
Busy day I’ll have to catch up later.
My legs were so tired from yesterday, I worked the concession stand at the little kids football games for 5 hours, then off to the meet and ran/walk around the course from 3 to 9:30. We had about an hour of so rain/lightening delay. Went out too late was it was 80 but just did 2 miles just to get them moving.
4 -
9/1 - Rest day
9/2 - 13.18 miles. Very slow, mostly walking. Really struggled with low BG throughout entire run. Depleted electrolytes and had cramping towards end and afterwards.
9/3 - Rest
9/4 - Cross train - hiked 10 miles.
9/5 - Unplanned rest day - seems like I might have sprained left ankle.
9/6 - 6.34 miles (plan was for 8, but trying to be easy on ankle ahead of HM on 9/9)
9/7 - Unplanned rest - trying to rest ankle for HM and spare electrolytes
9/8 - Rest
9/9 - 12.74 Wabash Trace HM 2:02:08 (we all took a wrong turn shortly after start, causing the short distance)
9/10 - Rest
9/11 - Rest
9/12 - 5 miles treadmill intervals
9/13 - 8.04 miles
9/14 - 5 miles treadmill, low BG issues and generally not good
9/15 - Rest
9/16A - 9.12 miles fasting, with electrolytes and yohimbine. Good BG's, indicating yohimbine is working to release stubborn fat, but slow run. Plan was for 18 miles today. Stopped for rain and because pace was so slow.
9/16B - 5.01 miles - did not get to 18 today, but stopped because it was dark and I was worn out
9/17 - Rest
9/18 - Rest
9/19 - 5.0 miles treadmill before weight lifting
9/20 - Unplanned rest day. BG's high in the afternoon and I'm exhausted so going to bed early.
9/21 - 5.0 miles treadmill before weight lifting
9/22 - Rest
9/23 - Unplanned rest (BG Issues)
9/24 - 18.01 miles; everything went really well until about mile 12 when I started to feel muscle pains of electrolyte depletion. Swung by home and got 2 electrolyte tablets, but it wasn't enough. Walked most of the last 2 miles.
I'm so far behind that I'm not going to reach goal
Upcoming Races:
9/9/17 - Wabash Trace HM
