Surgery went well, patient feels terrible. Poor thing, I think she thought since it was laporoscopic that it would be as painful. We'll it's still painful. She's here sleeping since if we took her home she would have 2 big boxers wanting her attention and jumping on her. One of her boxers has severe seperation anxiety unless he is kenneled. Her room mate can put food in his kennel if needed. She fed them both before she left so he is OK but he will eventually need to be let out. Kevin can open the kennel and stand back since he will run but he can't get him back in. So I guess we are going to have to assist her with that this evening.mshe does have friends lined up to go over and help if needed. She didn't think she would need to but she may. And she will feel better tomorrow.
Ok, now I can finish my post. Christina called, she's the one who checked he big truck out in Florida. She didn't go into all the things wrong with truck but it is being sold as is. As a 2004 truck I would imagine it would be. Her boss called her as we were talking and she had to gang up. But I was afraid to leave my post and come back to it. I didn't want it to go poof.
Can we ever vacuum up all our pet hair? I was brushing Mozart yesterday. I usually put everything off the brush in this one place but I was wondering if I could twist all that fur and eventually have enough to make anything with. It's a pretty light good clot and would look lovely.
Charlie is getting ready to start pacing. We go to Teaxas Roadhosue on Tuesday nights and he always wants to be there by 5 PM. But we still have a snoozing daughter here's t home. He was actually wondering if we should wake her up to see if she wants to go with us! Next time he has surgery I will remind of him of how you feel.
See you later Joyce, Indiana2 -

Joyce - it took me about a week to get enough energy back that I could make it all day. Thought if I had it on Thursday or Friday, I'd be back to work on Monday. I think I made it half the day and took Tuesday off and was grateful I was only working part-time. Hope she has a pillow to put against her tummy in case she needs to cough... and milk of magnesia to help with the constipation. She may have shoulder pain for a day or two as well.
Good thing she has helpers lined up: it's OK to ask for help for this!
And I hope this surgery has solved her problem completely!

So (I shall refer to boot camp son as Nuke son, since he's graduated boot camp now). Nuke son called this morning, and he reported to sick call early this morning. Course to report, he had to walk 30 minutes, on his hurt feet, and terrible cold. He sounded upbeat though. He recd meds, and they ordered an x-ray on this chest. His heels are healing well.

Heather: We have a plumbed refrigerator and having the water and ice delivered from the door is nice. Having a soggy floor because something froze up and caused the whole system to shut down and melt is not nice. Right now we're waiting for the refrigerator repair place to come and unlock the wheels so I can pull the thing out from the wall and vacuum under it. That caused the trouble in the first place. Now we know enough to realize we need to vacuum underneath it regularly. :ohwell:
Wendy: Thanks for your research. We're still waiting for refrigerator our repair guy. If he doesn't show up, I'll have a starting point for a "do it yourself" project thanks to your sleuthing. :flowerforyou:
MissWandalyn: You've found a group that is very good at support. Welcome! The motivation to change really needs to come for within. You are the one who will be making choices, measuring portions, and moving more. This program works because it gives you the tools to count calories and keep track of what you've been eating. The social support you will find here is amazing and empowering. To find us again click on the blank star at the top of the page. It will turn yellow to bookmark our group. Then all you need to do is click on the gray star to find us again.
We're still sitting at home waiting for the refrigerator repair guy. I am eager to learn how to do this for myself so that I can clean behind the refrigerator whenever I take a notion.

Meg - so sorry your FIL had a stroke. hope it wasn't real bad
Carol [ things seem to be going from bad to worse for you. ((((HUGS)))) I think I'd be beyond tearing my hair out.
allie - love, love, love hearing all about the trials and tribulations of Tom. He deserves what he gets
Drove from NC to VA today. Tomorrow Denise has the final fitting (phew!). Jess has a concert at 8 so I told Denise as long as we leave by 5, we're OK. I'm going to video on my phone how to bustle the gown just in case Jess forgets (although she'll say she won't)
Michele from NC now in VA,3 -
Allie: Since you are leasing for now you probably should document any stains or problems with dated photos before you move in to protect yourself, or the owner could try to require you to replace the carpets & whatever.
Michele: (((HUGS))) Protect your heart the best you can. Good luck to Denise.
Meg: (((HUGS))) for everything you're dealing with. You need a good support system. We're here for you, but I don't think we're enough. Do you have local support, too?
The refrigerator guy was here. He unlocked the wheels and we vacuumed behind & under the fridge. He had a neat tool that helped. I think we can do it on our own if necessary but his price was low enough that we'll likely call him repeatedly.
Yoga tomorrow and maybe Arrow. I'll call his owner after yoga and see whether it is a good time for her.

wildhorsewendy wrote: »Today, if the rain stops, I am donning my bee suit and going out to make queens. First, I have to search through the hives and try to find the queen. Then I 'give her a holiday' and move her into a small 'nuc' hive next to the main hive. The main hive panics, because their queen is gone, so they are more willing to make a new queen. Then I have to graft eggs into plastic cups about the size of a thimble, and I hot glue these cups onto a frame which I put back into the hive. This has to be done quite quickly so the eggs don't get chilled. I use a tiny grafting tool that looks like a crochet hook but it has a tip that you can push down to move the egg gently into the cup. If you flip the egg which looks like a c shaped grain of rice, you will sufficate the baby princess. Grafting eggs reminds me of the game of Operation. You have to have a steady hand, intense concentration and not touch the sides. I am actually paranoid about bugs and can't stand to have them crawling on me, so getting over my terror and repulsion of bees was a BIG thing for me. I still take major precautions to prevent getting stung but I do get stung every now and then. I do enjoy making queens because it's like playing the lottery. You never know whether the bees will co-operate and feed the eggs so that they grow into queens. Sometimes they feed heaps of the eggs, sometimes only a few, sometimes none at all. Many factors affect the success rate. Weather, food supplies, disease problems, phase of moon and the way you hold your tongue while you're grafting! Wendy
That's really interesting.
My husband works in orcharding, and of course bees are very important for that, so they bring in hives each season and I have learned a few things about bees, but had no idea about all that.

Machka - Exactly what is VPN and is it worth $40 a year? As I recall you had something on here about it before.
VPN is virtual private network.
Each of our computers has an IP (Internet Protocol) address that is linked to some information about you, such as your location. When you log into a site like this, it makes a note of your IP address. That's fine for most of us, but if, for example, you were banned here, and then tried to log in again with a different name, moderators could check the IP address and discover that this different name is the same as the person who was banned. Incidentally, creating a second version of yourself on a site like this is called, "Creating a sock puppet".
However, if you were to log on through a VPN, the VPN makes it appear that your IP address is different, from a different location. So you could create as many sock puppets as you want. Trolls use VPNs for this purpose. People who want to access sites they probably shouldn't be accessing also use VPNs.
Another area where VPNs are used is to get to sites you can't access from your current country. For example, if you were living in the US and you wanted to see a full series of TV programs put out by BBC (in the UK), you may be able to access them just normally, or there may be a block on people outside the UK accessing those programs. So, if you were to go through a VPN, you might be able to access those programs because it could appear that your location (identified through your IP address) is in the UK or another country that can access those programs. I know of people who use VPNs to be able to watch sports events which are blocked in their area for one reason or another. The VPN you might be looking into, which is charging $40/year, is likely one that will allow you to access sites in other places that you would not otherwise be able to access.
I use a VPN through my university. The university has a local network (LAN) which can only be accessed when I am at the university, on the university computers ... unless we use a VPN. So students and staff are allowed to use a particular VPN which we download onto our home computers, and through that we can access the university's local network, which contains the software I need to use. This means I can do my assignments at home rather than at the university ... much more convenient.
So there are good and bad sides to VPNs.

Hi Everyone, New to My Fitness Pal BUT not to needing to lose weight. I am on this journey again! Barbi, I want to use your word of 2017 as mine, "BALANCE"! I just cannot find the meaning of that word....I'm a work in progress:)3
-
Today is Lumberjack Day!
I’ll sing a chorus of “I’m a Lumberjack and I’m OK” to celebrate.
My usual three-day weekend turned into a three-and-a-half-day weekend because I had to spend an extra day at the river house to get to a stopping point on the Roman shades project. I’m not even going to try to catch up on posts.
While I was there with no internet and no cell phone, I managed to get the app to work just barely enough to log in, but let’s just say I wasn’t real disciplined about calories. Went to an Octoberfest celebration at a microbrewery that included four pours (about 12 ounces each). I couldn’t drink four beers even though I had most of the day to do it, so I gave away one of my tickets and thus discovered that my strait-laced sister-in-law is hilarious when she’s tipsy. She’s on a low-carb diet and has been very disciplined. She’s usually the designated driver when they go out, so I guess she figured she’d take advantage of the little holiday to let loose. Then after the brewery we visited two distilleries where we sampled local whiskey. I don’t drink very often, so I probably consumed more on Saturday than I normally have in at least a month! Fun, but it’s just as well it’s a rare thing.
Anyhow, hope all of you (and your lumberjacks, as applicable) are OK.

Welcome...I chose "balance" as my word for 2017 because it was a quality that I wanted to cultivate. By being aware, I can use balance as a way to help me make decisions about my life. I try to stay in the moment and be mindful of the actions I'm taking.

Hello! I am new to this site. I am 51, overweight, a 4 1/2 year breast cancer survivor, and noninsulin diabetic. I am determined to get this last 60 pounds off. I have already lost 50 pounds due to the cancer and surgeries involved with it. My problem is I get no support from my family and so needless to say I have no motivation. I tire easily when exercising (when I actually get to exercise; I am a high school science teacher who works year round). I don't exercise much because I feel self conscious due to the fact that I get made fun of while exercising. I have started walking as much as I possibly can in a day's time. I guess what I am asking is "what do you guys do for motivation"? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!6

Sue in WA - what a wonderfully cute picture
MissWandalyn – welcome here for a great support team.
Tonizach1956 – balance is really hard for me when you get some tips send them my way.
Hoping that I can start to focus and to really lose weight not just yoyo. I have a lot going on in my life right now with teaching three days a week and that is after my regular job of a web support specialist during the day. Trying to eat more because I seem to not eat during the day and then eat it all in the evening and then I comfort eat because I like the crunch and it is comforting. Thank you all for your support.

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening Friends,
MicheleNC, glad it wasn’t a blood clot. Take care.
Patrice, welcome, welcome, welcome. Yes many of us have known and loved your mom for a long time. I still can’t get over what a tragic accident. I do hope you will come often. Just take things one day at a time and know that this is a safe place if you ever want to vent.
Katla, great news on your bone scan.
Joyce, I ‘d say one question is, how comfortable is your daughter to be making that drive? If she’s not then I’d say no but otherwise it’s probably okay. Why can’t she wait and drive the next day?
Rori, I know “red tape” can be a total bummer. Take deep breaths and try to think of other things until it’s done. (((Hugs)))
Kay, thanks for the sweet words. I think we all knew you were kidding about “your troll”. Lol I did Google DamitJanit and it also took me right to my last post on here. Interesting. Yes, I also miss CarolNC.
Janetr and Pip, congrats on the scale moving.
Wendy, such interesting info about the bees. I wondered when you said you were going to make a queen.
Sue, those goats just make me smile and I don’t even know why. Thanks for the pics.
CarolGA, I can’t believe all the damage to your house. Did they warn you that this would happen?
to all the Newbies. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
Sending love, good thoughts and sunshine to all of you.

Hi folks. I'm doing well. A bit more energy. Weight is moving downward.
Dishwasher replaced. Waiting for the installer for the new stove. Getting some declutter projects done around the house. Headed to the dentist tomorrow... I did something to a tooth - eating raw almonds. No more hard foods for me.
My nephew has a drone... he gets some beautiful pics of Houston and surrounding areas. Thought I'd share this one with you.

Welcome. It sounds like you have motivation if you are determined to get the weight off. Set aside your challenges (no support from family, tiring easily, etc) and look for what you can do. Make a food plan and stick to it no matter what your family is eating. Seek every opportunity to be active (not just formal exercise) but some walking or not sitting so much. I found that eating healthy food gave me more energy and more energy allowed me to burn more calories. Log your food and look for extra, non nutrition dense food to eliminate in favor of healthier, lower calorie choices. Do it one day at a time. And don't compare yourself to other people. List your personal achievements at the end of each day.

Good evening my friends. I just finished reading today's posts. My good friend/next door neighbor picked me up at 11:00 AM and we headed to Michaels Craft store. Oh my. To make a long story short we returned home at 7:15 PM. We had a great day and I ate a very sensible lunch at Chili's and I'm worn out.
I definitely learn something every day from our diverse group here. But I think today's Emmy goes to Wendy. Wow girl, I had to read about the information on bees (not the birds and the bees) to my husband. I am in awe and I'm quite sure it is not an operation I will EVER attempt. Thanks for sharing.
I love this group of smart, sweet and some times sassy, friends. Thank you all

So I lost it today at work. I have been able to keep it together at work for the most part, but today I knew my Mom would have the answer that I needed, but as I thought I should call her, I remembered that she isn't here anymore.
Well, let me tell you a little about myself. My name is Patrice, if you didn't see in a previous post, I am Glorias daughter. I am 51 and have struggled with my weight my whole life. Coming from a low income (high on love) family, it was all about cheap food, casseroles, hamburger, cheap lunch meats, mac and cheese 50 different ways and TV dinners. I didn't know how bad it was for me, it was delicious! I have done just about every single diet known to man kind. Some work better than others, but it it was the end all fix all, I wouldn't be here now would I?
I like a challenge, but once I prove to myself I can do it, I quit. Started roller derby at 46, did it for 2 yrs and retired. Every diet I have ever done worked, but I get frustrated because I want what I want, and quit. The list goes on....
I have an amazing, loving boyfriend of 12/13/14 yrs...i've lost count. 3 boys, they are 29, 27 and 19. 3 grandchildren that are 7, 5 and 4. A fat lazy cat, Kalia and a spoiled rotten princess dog, Lizzie.
Can't wait to continue my journey with all of you!❤9 -
Patrice, you will probably lose it many more times. And it is OK! I remember years after my Dad hearing a song that he loved. By that time, my oldest daughter had married and had a daughter. Dad loved kids, from anyone. Mom had a preschool and he was the resident Grandpa. You could always find at least one little one on his lap playing with his hair or looking at a book with him.mbut it hit me then and there that my Dad would never have MY little girl on his lap. Oh, did I lose it. I was in the choir at church and had to leave the choir loft in the middle of a song. My take on things like that is that all emotions are a gift from God. If we deny ourselves that emotion, we are denying ourselves a blessing from God. And yes anger can be a gift. That is how we get things changed in this funny world we live in.
Well Christina's boss didn't like the truck so she needs to fly back but funny thing is that she can't find the cheapest flight until Thursday! So she gets a nice hotel room right on the beach until then. Poor thing. Now I can't see how a boss can put the cost of two nights in a hotel along with meals and say a cheaper flight in two days is the better bargain. But that is what she is doing. He is bidding on a truck auction in Tennessee tomorrow so she might have to fly to Tennessee and pick that one up. All this time he is in Texas doing a consulting job. He has a strange job. Maybe he needs Lisa to work for him.
Michelle is doing as well as expected. Back home enjoying the dogs laying next to her. So far they haven't gotten on her. I would almost say that I wish she and her boyfriend live together. She at least would have a big guy to help with the dogs.
To those in Australia, watched a show tonight about a town in Australia called Seventy Seven. Weird name but beautiful town.
Was it Ginger that posted a pic over Dallas? I love night skys. That is what was the most beautiful of that picture, not the skyline, it could be anything underneath the sky. I just loved the night sky. I love to take pictures of church steeples at night.
Joyce, Indiana get my every 6 week hair cut tomorrow. Same cut I have had for maybe 20 years. Just less hair to cut.3 -

Hi Gals,
Joyce, Lisa and Katla have given you good advice, I would also say that from what you have said in the past her company values her and I would expect they will cover hotels, meals, etc… so worry a bit that is a Mom’s job but don’t worry too much As for driving on the interstate at night, I do it every few days and feel very safe.
Peach – hang in there!
Read everyone’s post, just not much time to respond as bed is calling, I made a batch of bread and butter pickles tonight, these are a bit different as they are made with zucchini instead of cucumbers… I loved the idea of using up 2 quarts of thinly cut zucchini!

Thank you JANET for the Emmy. I would just like to say that today was an exceptional day in the apiary. It is always a good day when you do not get stung. It was the hottest day we've had all spring and I was dressed in three layers to ensure I would not get stung, so I sweated like a racehorse. (Sweat trickling down your body when you are wearing a bee suit gives you the horrible sensation of bees crawling on you.) I felt like all the stars lined up for me today, and God's face was shining on me as well as the sun shining on me. I set up four hives to make my little princesses. I was able to locate all four resident queens, which is not all that easy, looking for one slightly larger insect in a swarm of 50,000 or so. (Which one of these doesn't belong? Which one of these is not the same?-I was playing Sesame Street) I was also able to find a good frame of eggs of exactly the right age and in golden wax rather than old dark wax, which makes it so much easier to see them and pick good ones. However, there are not very many drones around so I'm not sure if the bees are ready to make queens. They need drones to mate them. The weather has been shocking here for months, torrential relentless rain...the wettest winter/spring we've ever had. The bees are just not able to get out of their hives. Anyway, I am go glad that I chose to go for my long run yesterday, in the rain, so I could spend this wonderful rare sunny day working with the bees. Wendy8
