Thought in my mind on whether I want to reduce or abstain - I've started my third month AF - if I have a major event coming up - a cruise or resort vacation - is it made more celebratory by clouding my mind to the people and places? My son, who stopped drinking and inspired me to do the same, said that before he stopped he thought everyone drank. After he stopped he realized that many many people don't drink. I've noticed the same thing. I think I used to gravitate towards the drinking crowd at a gathering, and now I realize that there are more non-drinkers. I now get tired of the inebriated people at a party and talk with the sober ones. Interesting.5

I gave up alcohol years ago and it's great! Highly recommended.6

Can't recall if I posted in this thread already, but I'm in for reducing my alcohol consumption in October. I don't plan to drink this week until Saturday, when husband and I will probably go out to celebrate our anniversary, and after that I plan to keep it to once per week or so. I'm in a Biggest Loser challenge group this month; cutting back will definitely help me make progress with weight loss.4

This is day 7 for me, and the longest I've been AF for at least 9 years. I actually slept through the night without waking up at 3 am.9

I am on my 9th day. Sleeping so good last 2 days. Amazing6

I'm in. Glad I found this. In late August I decided to go until Thanksgiving day without alcohol. I really wanted to focus on health and weight loss. Today is day 43. I sleep better than I have in years and am a lot more clear headed. I am considering limiting myself to Sunday dinner cocktail and a glass of wine. I don't need to drink any more than that.4

Alcohol has taken a lot from me, (money, time, memory, dignity... the list goes on!) so definitely doing sober October. 2 weeks AF and counting.8

"Nearly" -- I like that! 4 days in, and I resisted the temptation to invite some folks out for happy hour last night. I was just in the mood to be out.2 -

Held up to the pressure. I was visiting last night and was shocked at one person who kept trying to get me to drink. I am a daily drinker who gave it up for Sober September and am still going strong and all in for sober October. I feel great, the bloated face is gone, I'm exercising, loosing weight, sleeping well and off the sleeping pills. I have goals and am staying focused.9

Awesome cmeride. I think I thought drinks it helped me sleep. I realize now how well I sleep without! Cryingblue. Pls hang in there. It's better to not sleep well for a couple of days an d then your body will kick in.
Believe me I know. I also can't believe how much dreaming I do. I went to sleep 1145 amd woke up 945! Had to pee during night and went right back to sleep. Feeling so awesome! You will to I promise!5 -
My favorite part of this thread is knowing that I'm not alone to fighting (and often times failing) with these temptations.
As I've said before, for myself, I think it's mostly an issue of habit and association (Netflix + wine, Bonfire + wine, Dark Chocolate + wine, Bad week at work + wine ) lol I need to get better at stocking my house with those flavored carbonated waters to lean on when a craving strikes!10
