Isagenix - My Journey

Today is my first day, not only with trying Isagenix, but any sort of diet program. I have had success in the past just eating better and doing my own thing, but I wanted more accountability!
About Me:
Age 36, 5'9"
Weight - 239.4 lbs
Mom of two girls
I have always just eaten what I wanted without thinking about the calories or what I've already eaten that day and balancing out my day. I was famous for skipping meals and then having a full bag of potato chips and pop an hour later. It's now gotten to the point where I am not doing things with friends or my kids because of my size and lack of energy. My family goes skiing without me because I refuse to buy another bigger size of snow pants. My girlfriends have joined a parent cheer team and I won't because I know I couldn't keep up, and there is a mom bigger than me doing it. I AM TIRED OF MISSING OUT ON LIFE SO THIS IS THE FIRST DAY TO THE NEW ME.
While looking better is definitely a bonus, I want to FEEL better and get the happier and more confident me back.
I want to do a short update as much as I can, hopefully each day. If anyone is going through the same thing I am or just want to support one another, please feel free to add me or chat with me on this thread.
This is the soon to be old me, taken just a few weeks ago. Talk about motivation...

So today is day one. I am not selling Isagenix or promoting it any way so please know that my experience is my opinion and completely my truth.
I had my first shake this morning, the chocolate. If you knew me, you would know that I do not care for chocolate anything. I'm a crunchy and salty kinda girl, but I had purchased chocolate shakes so that I had more variety. As it happens, it was the first one that was easily accessible in the cupboard this morning.
I WAS PLEASANTLY SUPRISED BY THE TASTE! I have tried other protein powder shakes in the past and they tasked so powdery, no matter what you added to them. I only added the 8oz of water that is called for and it was actually good! I'm hoping that means this process just got a little easier...9 -
Congratulations on starting off to a better you!
Lots of people on this site lose weight by eating the normal foods they love, within a calorie deficit.
I don't know much about Isagenix, but after a google search it looks like just a place that sells shakes.
Good luck on your journey!0 -
Judging by your hat and jersey, I'm thinking you must be from my neck of the woods. Good luck with your journey!2

You may get some haters because you're using pre-packaged meal replacements, but please do what's best for you. I drank the Isagenix shakes for years as a nutritional supplement when I was pregnant/nursing (years before my weight loss). I never found them filling, so I never went full-blown with the program. Then cost became a factor, and I stopped around the time I started MFP.
Best of luck with your journey (and, it's a journey, not a race ). If you get tired of just Isagenix stuff, don't just rage quit--there are tons of people here on the forums that can give layman advice/guidance.4 -
Not missing out on family things was one of the big things that pushed me back into losing weight (I had lost some weight before and gained a lot of it back). About 1 1/2 years ago my oldest (3 at the time) wanted me to go on a ride with him and I wouldn't. I was worried that I wouldn't fit so I talked him into going with Daddy instead. That is when things clicked for me this time around.
Good luck on your journey. Keep trying to discover new ways to motivate yourself as the 'newness' wears off.
Feel free to add me as a friend if you like. I'm a daily logger1 -
Good luck!! A few of my friends have done isagenix. And I am currently on day 7 right now. The first day was rough but I just kept going and I now feel amazing.
The strawberry shake is my favorite and I think they are super filling. You will love this.
And I do not sell isagenix and I am not a coach. Feel free to add me!3 -

The strawberry is my fav too. My husband and kids are away all weekend so it's just me which I would normally love cause I would watch chick flicks and eat junk food the whole time. I've already got a large to do list to keep me busy and off the couch!
Way to go on 7 days! Everyone says the first week is the hardest. How did you find the cleanse xosimonee?

Day 7 update!
I finally got to weigh in (I chose to only weigh in once a week but I would weigh in everyday if I could, it's an addiction for sure). And I'm down 5 lbs!!
I did my first cleanse and found it to be a breeze, way easier than I thought. That could be in part because I was never one to eat a lot, but what I ate was all junk food and fast food. The only hard part of the cleanse day for me was the chewables. I purchased the berry flavored ones and it took everything I had to get them down. I will definitely be trying another flavor for the next round.
The one thing that I found difficult was being accountable when my husband and children were gone for the whole weekend. In my head I just kept thinking "I could go get a big bag of chips at the store right now and no one would know". I look forward to get to the point where the cravings lessen.
I'm stoked to know I still have 3 weeks of my 30 days to go. If this week was any consolation, I will DEFINATELY be continuing with Isagenix. They just came out with their seasonal items yesterday and I snagged a canister of Mint Chocolate. Can't wait to shake up my flavor options...pun intended!!
How was everyone else's week so far?? I would love to hear about your successes big or small and your struggles.4 -
Congrats on your weight loss!!
Want to leave this here to let you know that cleanses are woo:

You lost due to a calorie deficit, not a cleanse. Don't throw your money away on that stuff.
You can eat your bag of chips and still lose weight.14 -
^ what @notreallychris said. Total and utter woo. The body is perfectly capable of cleansing itself, that's what certain organs do. All you need to do is feed it a normal healthy and varied diet to make it work optimally. Every pill and potion which claims to do that for you is lying.6

I totally get it. I had a calorie deficit each day for the last week. I was just mentioning that one of those days was a cleanse day. Really it's no different than Intermittent Fasting. I was still getting my daily nutrients and vitamins.0 -

Nope. Don't sell it at all, just sharing my experience hoping to find others doing the same journey.3 -
The journey of taking untested supplements supplied by a pyramid scheme?
Ok then.8 -
This would be more believable as not a sales pitch if any part of your posts ever mentioned any healthy weight loss habits other than this one company. Do you work out? Try to eat certain other foods? No, just stuff that I totally believe you're not shilling? Yeah, okay.7

Firstly, I thought the idea of MFP was to support each other? Not sure why I'm getting so much attitude? Secondly, I always ensure I have done my research before I criticize people, companies, or choices someone has made. Perhaps you should do the same?

We are supporting each other by discouraging participation in an overpriced program that adds no value.16 -

I truly have never been one to workout (hence why I am where I am). I have made a lot of other changes in my life, and you are probably right, I haven't really touched on those so I get that part. I don't eat a starch at dinner, I don't eat after 7, I only get on the scale once a week rather than twice a day to try to lessen the obsession with a number rather than how I feel. I take the stairs at work now and park at the far end of the parking lot at work.
Your post would have been much more receptive with the "yeah okay" at the end. As I said to the poster above you, I thought MFP was about helping each other along. It's a sad world if everyone thinks everything is a sales pitch. I was just hoping the subject of the discussion would make it easier for others doing the same program to find me and go through this WITH me.11 -

This is a website designed for people to measure & log food. Meal replacements are a shortcut to help you skip all that "tedium." So it's not surprising that meal replacements don't get a lot of love here.
Welcome to the internet. People have a variety of opinions and express them. You were expecting blind support maybe? I'm sure Isagenix has it's own site where everyone can cheer each other on.9 -

To the portion where you say you don't eat after 7, or starch at dinner. Those look like things you may have seen on TV or on the internet.
You can eat whenever you want, (calories can't tell time). And whatever you want (have your starches if you'd like), if you eat at a calorie deficit, you'll lose weight.

I would recommend the most helpful threads to get you started on the right path. The good news is, it's free. And you won't have to spend money on Isagenix anymore8 -

Welcome to the internet.
MLM programs aren't very popular.
Weight loss/health improvement is the journey we're on together. Flogging Isagenix/Advocare/Herbalife isn't. It's a distraction at best, and an unproductive/costly impediment at worst.5 -
Anything that shouts “pyramid scheme” prompts me to run in the other direction.
Measuring with a scale and logging religiously as well as making a commitment to being more active brought me to today..... maintenance of a loss of over 55 pounds.
Just the cost per month alone made me say no. I’ve got friends who jumped on the Isagenix band wagon around the time I began MFP. They are heavier than before.
There is NO magic fix for fat.8 -
You dont need sweetened shakes to lose weight long term you need to change your habits. Try the keto diet or low carb diet.14
-
-
I also use Isagenix. Feel free to send me a friend request. Keep up the great work!8

You're supporting an inherently unethical business model which is out to scam people. A pyramid scheme. There is also a distinct lack of studies backing up their product claims (clinically proven means nothing - could just be based on one person losing weight on it). So as for telling me to do my research: I have. I have searched for independent studies and found exactly zilch because THERE ARE NONE!
I know MLMs are quick to put down 'haters' because they brainwash their adherents in to believing that all negativity is bad, regardless of evidence (or lack thereof, as the case may be). Fine. That's why they have these cultish conventions with lots of loud music and women screaming like banshees about how #blessed they are, faking it until they never make it.
It's a set up which makes Scientology look tame, and that's saying something.
Attitude my *kitten* *kitten*. Just fed up of seeing people taken in by this utter bovine excrement.13 -

Thanks NotReallyChris, I appreciate you taking the time to include the links. I will check it out for sure.
The not eating after 7 is something I had heard on tv, but it works for me because that is when I tended to pig out on junk watching tv with my hubby. Same idea as IF...picking my times to eat and when not to eat. Making it work for me and my schedule and my habits.0 -

Congratulations on the weight loss, that is amazing! I had lost 62 lbs using just MFP a few years ago, measuring my food and make smarter decisions. I have not looked for a magic fix. I simply wanted an easy way to ensure I got my vitamins and nutrients each day, as I not a huge fruit and veggies person. I'm slowly introducing those things to change my eating habits, but until it becomes second nature, atleast I know I'm getting the good stuff into my body.
Congratulations again on the loss and maintaining it, that's what I want to reteach myself to do.1 -

I don't know how you can be more accountable then weighting your food and making the right choices. You also said you have never done any sort of diet before and then you said later that you used MFP and lost 62lbs. My advice you will lose weight and you will gain it back when you stop the Isagenix. If you do not change your daily eating habits it will always be a yoyo.5
