So I'm back once again like the renegade master..... and thought I would try and join a thread to see if I have any more success.
I just read the rules but can't remember what they were so today I am just going to say 'Hi' and will check back in again tomorrow.
Today is the first step on the long road to getting somewhere.
Happy Tuesday everyone3 -
@bapcarrier, @nikion901 and @verybusybee - Things I never knew!! Thank you@
@verybusybee - While weight is so important to keep us in check, inches speak volumes. There's so many reasons for weight to fluctuate (my list is too long to post LOL!!)
@jennordhavn - Wow, no cravings... I have to work very hard on that.
@moodybear2 - Its kinda flattering knowing I'm being stalked (lurking)... So glad you posted. Calories definitely creep up when not watching. When I first started MFP, I realized I was eating 5000-6000 calories a day. That really scared me.
@lowcarbkaren - Welcome!!
@Nikion901 - my garden desperately needs you!! I like how you review the month to date or week to date... It puts things in perspective.
I forget what Tuesdays are... so I'll share that my Chiropractor recommended (and I accepted) a anti-inflammatory protein powder to add to a morning shake... also includes almond milk, banana and mixed berries. I had it for the first time today and it was actually quite good. Hard part is going to be "no sugars, no grains".. although I know this is so necessary given my "sugarholic/carboholic" tendencies. So I went to town yesterday and ate cake and two bowls of cereal as my last hurrah...

Ok --- "Robin" as in @RobinsEgg started this thread a number of years ago ... I think maybe around 2010 ... her real-world first name is Ellen ... and I don't think she'd mind my sharing that info as those of us who have been on here when RobinsEgg was active knew her first name from things we shared about ourselves along the way.
RobinsEgg retired from MFP during 2016, she did pop back in here toward the end of April and again December of 2016 to encourage us on. It had been her hope, when she told us her intention to quit the site, that this thread would find a life of it's own and continue. So far, it has.
PS ... This current thread is actually a continuation of threads that had to start anew back in the days when MFP only allowed 500 posts on a single thread. That's why you'll read funny stuff on the first page ... which were a part of informing the regular posters of which thread to look for to pick it up again. That no longer needs to happen ... however, I expect that one of these days MFP will decide this thread has gotten big enough to close so a new one might eventually need to be started. We shall see as time goes on if that comes to pass.
In the meantime ... we are here for each other ... those of us who have to lose so much weight that it equals or tops 100 pounds when we started losing weight.1 -

It's only been 2 1/2 weeks but so far no cravings. I did have one super hungry day (PMS I believe) but I wasn't craving sweets/carbs like I normally would. It just took much more food to make me full. This is new territory for me so we will see if it continues. I have had a few sweet treats during the two and a half weeks, but they didn't seem to trigger me to eat more, maybe because the rest of the time I still focused on low carbs. I'm not sure, but for now I'll take it. LoL.1 -
@Nikion901 Thanks for the info on "Robin". How cool that her thread is still going strong. I bet she is proud of what she started. Hopefully MFP doesn't make us start a whole new thread but if they do, I hope it's with notice so we can move. Thanks again.1

Tuesday goals
sub 15 minute miles on my 3 mile walks, Currently 16.5 minutes. Facing the bow flex max and getting on and going for it. My newest doctor says I should be doing 13 minute miles. I need a higher intensity aerobic workout per liver guy. Already killing the low carb diet and weight loss directive. What is a liver specialist called?
Getting over the hurricane already! They finally picked up the trash piles in our neighborhood and mother in laws. It’s really time for it to be over.
Find something joyful! It doesn’t even have to be anything special. It just has to be pure and beautiful. I need a bit of unadulterated joyful ness. Things have been bleak lately. Too much bad news.
Buy smaller pants. Down 12 inches at my waist. Now shopping for the same size I wore in high school.1 -
@pneschich ... I believe it is a Gastroenterologist who specialized in livers, ... as well as other digestive organs. I think we used to call these specialists GI doctors ...0

OK, so I know that my goal was a bit optimistic, but better a goal that is a bit more difficult than an easy one. If I set a reachable goal, than I might become complacent and think ah, I can ease up a little. So, therefore a goal that is not so easy to achieve will make me work a little harder. And although I don't think I will reach my goal, I do think I will come pretty close. 4.5 weeks for 13.9 lbs.
So, if I can manage to continue to lose 2 lbs per week, then I will only be 5 lbs short of my goal.3 -

Well, this is now month 4 of unintentional "maintenance"! (Staying within the same 5 pounds). I just can't seem to get back in the swing of things, especially since I got back from vacation. Unless something changes, and drastically, I will not make yet another challenge goal!
Every morning I wake up with good intentions for the day and by the time I get home from work, I spin out of control. I am having cravings that I can't seem to satisfy. It kind of reminds me of when I was taking high doses of prednisone years ago which made me mean, nasty and hungry! It was the beginning of my weight issues. But now, I am not taking any medications.
Does anyone have an opinion on such unspecific cravings?
Maybe I will Google why I am having these cravings and see what the interwebs have to say.
Until next time; wishing everyone Peace , Love and Weight Loss !!

@pneschich A liver specialist is a hepatologist, livers only, as opposed to a gastroenterologist, who also can treat the liver.
@ihp2015 Setting goals is a good thing. Setting unrealistic ones could be disappointing, at least it would be for me. I try to keep it real but like everyone on this thread (I'm guessing) we want the weight off like yesterday.
@RobinB0812 Are you eating a lot of sugar/carbs? That could be triggering cravings. If so, try eating lower glycemic index foods, that could help.
Wednesday Wishes....I really hope and wish I lose even a smidgen of weight this week. Not counting on it but hoping. Have a great Wednesday everyone!1 -

So, now I should be on the same weighing day as you guys. Eating-wise I am doing ok, not great but good enough for a slow loss (very slow...). In terms of exercise I can only manage to go to the gym and do some cardio stuff and a bit of weights for my arms. I am super tired the last few days and find it hard to find the energy to try something new. I hope it will come over time...1 -

My goal for this week is to give up soda. This will obviously be an ongoing goal but I plan to do this a little differently with a new goal each week that I can handle and continue.
Last week was stay under my calories, this week cut out soda and obviously exercise daily.
My starting weight was 330
I gained 2.2 pounds
today I am down .2 ounces so it is slow going for me.
I have however lost about 3 inches and 2% body fat so I will take that win
My ultimate goal is about 230 so about 100lbs. I am motivated to get this done.1 -

Note: I've been working on re-adjusting my macros lately (i.e. last 2 weeks) for my 2400 daily calorie allowance. My labs indicated that I'm eating more protein than I need so my dietitian recommended I decrease my protein to about 150 grams/day (I was up around 190-200 grams/day) and work on getting my carbs up closer to 240 grams/day (I was around 160 grams/day) since my meal-time insulin requirements have gotten quite low lately (I now only need 2 units/day for about 235 grams/day of carbs). I'll see how things look the during next two Wednesdays before making a final commitment to these new macros to see if I stay at an average weight loss rate of about 1.5 lbs/week (basically 5-6 lbs/month) or if I need to shift my carbs back a bit as it might just take my body a little more time to adjust to this change. I'm guessing my "stall" last week might have been from to holding onto water due to not being fully adjusted to the increased carbs yet as I certainly didn't really lose 3.2 lbs of fat this week eating the same 2400 calories/day and basically the same meals this week as last week without any real exercise change either (I typically walk for about an hour once or twice per week).2 -
Lisa 55 yrs old 5 6 " 246. Goal 165 just had hysterectomy for endometrial cancer. I can always lose up to 30 pounds, then I flatline and slowly gain that plus more. Low carb and 6 mini meals is the best plan for me. I've tried all the others, dieticians, personal trainers, double exercising, daily. Drinking flavored water helps me also. I do lose inches sooner than weight, but orthopedic dr. Will not operate on knee until I lose weight. One other illness meds state that weight gain is a side effect. For me now, maintaining 3 no higher than 3 pounds is my goal. In the past, it was not uncommon for me to gain 3 pounds the next day after eating the exact same meal for 4 days. Thanks for keeping my spirits up! I'd like to know what you think your calorie, fat, sodium, and carb intake should be using fitness pal.1

Wow am I bummed. I've never gained that much weight in a week. Same scale. Same day. Same time of day. Similar clothing. Overwhelming.
I know what to do.. That's the good thing about this thread... one has to face the music.1 -
Goals are relevant when one feels somewhat able to lose weight. What if I seem to gain weight even while eating less? And sort of giving up. My doctor just gave me a new prescription for higher dose of thyroid. But I wonder if it makes a difference. I can only think of skipping supper altogether.... I charted carefully on MOP and saw it tell me how much weight I would lose, but the scales disagreed.

@30prospect ... I understand your frustration. Just a couple of thoughts ... 1 ... have you taken a look at the type of food you are eating? and ... 2 ... have you tried increasing your activity levels.LowCarbOR55 wrote: »... @LowCarbOR55 ... Thanks. I'm glad this forum is helping you. Most of us have had the same reaction as you ... wondering why we gained when we expected we would at least stay the same. I found, in my own history, that it is not only how much I'm eating, but also what kind of food.
@verybusybee ... How'd you make out on last weeks goal of staying at calories? My week wasn't as good as the one before was and it showed on my scale ... I knew I should not have opened up that package of raisins!

Thanks Nikion. Eating healthy except two portions of chicken and brown rice fir supper. Going to gym for long workout and treadmill 4 times a week. Doing all the obvious and 25 lbs up in last 18 months1

@30prospect. Thyroid can really be tough with weight. My sister struggles with this too. She actually changed doctors and had better results. Second opinions can be helpful, even if only to affirm your current doctors approach.
Another thought is exercise. I learned that after a while the same routine can become ineffective. If you've been doing the same routine for a while maybe you can switch it up. Is there an elliptical? Maybe adding some weights so you build muscle which then burns calories even after youre done with your routine
I work with a nutritionist who out my food types at
Carbs. 45%
Fat 25%
Protein 30%
My lack of success recently is because I haven't been tracking. I log everything I eat. And I do it before each meal so I can stay within my targets
It works.... when I do it!
Hang in there. Looking forward to your posts

It sure is hard to stay motivated when the scales don't move. I did walk 3 times this week, not my goal of 4 times, but still better than I have done in a long time.1 -
Well, I did it and I'm glad! I took one of my pooches for a walk yesterday. I don't know the distance we walked but it was around the lake in my complex and tallied about 2,000 steps. Since I struggle to meet my 3,000 step goal everyday, I was elated to reach 4,698 yesterday!
This is quite an accomplishment for me for several reasons:
1. I live in a second floor apartment and with my back and leg issues, I typically won't leave home more than once a day because the steps can be a challenge.
2. My dog is 55 pounds of disobedience on a leash! Oy! He can pull. After a few minutes he calms down and walks with me (when he's not peeing on every tree!!) but until he gets to the point, WOW!
3. With said back/leg problems, prolonged walking is a challenge in of itself.
4. South Florida weather!
Keeping in the latest tradition, here are a couple of pictures from my walk. This first one is not really a good picture as the sun was behind this beauty, but this is something that I don't see that often in Florida, a GOOSE! I heard some rustling in the trees by the lake so I walked over to take a look. He had his wings open like he was sunning himself (or maybe posing for me!)
Next is just a picture of one of the fountains in our lake.
