Carbs -- I just can't do it

How in the world do you get all the carbs this site thinks you should have. It says I should eat 200+ a day, but I can't ever get that many. Saturday I had pancakes with maple syrup, beer, wine, a cookie, and pasta, in addition to some other stuff and still was 6 carbs short. Most days I'm under by more than 100 g. I eat veggies, sometimes fruit, pasta, rice, wraps, sometimes bread, etc. and drink wine or beer but I never can get all those carbs. Ugh! What's a girl got to do to get those carbs???

You can adjust your nutrient settings under goals, mine are set to 40/30/30. The protein on this site is low and I do not having as many carbs as MFP recommends.
Also try whole grained carbs and fruits and veggies for your carb intake.0 -
I don't worry about the carbs and rarely meet the daily goal, if ever. I try to meet the goals for calories and fat, and try to exceed the goal for protein and fiber (MFP defaults these too low). I don't even pay attention to carbs unless it looks like I'll go over.0

Change your percentages? MFP sets a real high carb, low protein ratio out of the gate. Adjust it to a 40/30/30 (carbs/protein/fat) and you will probably be a lot closer to what you're actually eating. If you're way under on carbs, I assume you're probably way over on protein if you're eating the correct amount of calories, so that should straighten things out.0

eat less carbs more protein, your not going to lose weight eating pancakes and syrup, those are bad carbs have some apples and fruit!!0

The site is VERY high in carbs, their recommendation is way to high. And their protein is way too low. It's fine if you don't hit their carb intake.0

What carbs aren't good carbs?? My diary is open. I rarely eat anything but whole grains. My pancakes are whole grain, as are my wraps, pasta, bread etc. The maple syrup is sugar but I rarely eat more than 2 tbs at a time and usually only once a week and always with etiher whole grain pancakes/waffles or a nut butter and oats.
The beer was pretty darn good too. :drinker:0 -

This morning i had 2 servings of cereal (cheerios, then some organic version of cin toast crunch) with milk, a smoothie, then i had a 90 cal brownie at my friends house... at this point iv gotten over my limit of carbs, sugar and bad fats. Bad day for me. But that's how i accomplished it today. Not that i recommend it. Im probably done for the day. I feel like crap.
Maybe try a healthier cereal with a low cal, high carb? Whatever works for you. But that works a little TOO well for me lol0 -

I've already lost 24 lbs, with the pancackes and syrup (but I only eat those once or twice a month), and the pasta, and with wine, or occasionally beer, everyday. I'm not really trying to lose any more, although I am still losing about 1 lb every month.0 -

IDK It's just what MFP set. It seems high to me too, especially since I entered sedentary for lifestyle (I sit at a desk all day).0 -

I don't eat many fruits, but I eat veggies and rarely eat any grains that aren't whole grains. Maybe that's my problem. Maybe it counts NET carbs and the protein and fiber of the whole grains is throwing it off. But why would I use this site if the settings are wrong? Surely they use some medical standard to set the goals.0 -

Hmm.. My Calories are 1200, my carbs set as 165 protein 45 and fat as 40.. how should i change that?0 -

I didn't say fiber was bad for you. Also, be careful who does these studies. The agriculture society has a VERY good reason to make everyone think they should get the majority of their diet from grains. Whole grains will still spike insulin, and they have been associated with vitamin deficiency.0 -

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Whole-grain foods are associated in observational studies with a lower body mass index and lower cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. However, few clinical trials have tested whether incorporating whole grains into a hypocaloric diet increases weight loss and improves CVD risk factors.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine whether including whole-grain foods in a hypocaloric (reduced by 500 kcal/d) diet enhances weight loss and improves CVD risk factors.
DESIGN: Obese adults (25 M, 25 F) with metabolic syndrome were randomly assigned to receive dietary advice either to avoid whole-grain foods or to obtain all of their grain servings from whole grains for 12 wk. All participants were given the same dietary advice in other respects for weight loss.
RESULTS: Body weight, waist circumference, and percentage body fat decreased significantly (P<0.001) in both groups over the study period, but there was a significantly (P=0.03) greater decrease in percentage body fat in the abdominal region in the whole-grain group than in the refined-grain group. C-reactive protein (CRP) decreased 38% in the whole-grain group independent of weight loss but was unchanged in the refined-grain group (P=0.01 for group x time interaction). Total, LDL, and HDL cholesterol decreased in both diet groups (P<0.05). Dietary fiber and magnesium intakes increased in the whole-grain but not the refined-grain group (P=0.007 and P<0.001, respectively, for group x time interaction).
CONCLUSIONS: Both hypocaloric diets were effective means of improving CVD risk factors with moderate weight loss. There were significantly (P<0.05) greater decreases in CRP and percentage body fat in the abdominal region in participants consuming whole grains than in those consuming refined grains.

You don't need that many, I'm sure. Change your percentages in my home / goals / change goals / custom. Your protein should be at least 25% which will make your carbs 45-50% depending on what you set fat for. I'm set for 45% carbs, 25% protein, 30% fat and I'm doing just fine and I seem to get enough of everything and don't typically go over on anything except the occasional fat if I use olive oil twice in one day or eat nuts and olive oil in one day, etc.0

I didn't say fiber was bad for you. Also, be careful who does these studies. The agriculture society has a VERY good reason to make everyone think they should get the majority of their diet from grains. Whole grains will still spike insulin, and they have been associated with vitamin deficiency.
I only read studies published from sources I know to be reliable, then it doesn't matter who paid for the study. If it wasn't medically and scientifically verifiable, they wouldn't publish it. As for the last sentence, I'll have to ask for some type of proof from a reputable medical organization before I would believe that. Every medical organization I can think of recommends eating whole grains as part of a healthy diet.0 -

They aren't an essential part of a diet, but thats not what the OP was asking, if you read what bcatt was trying to say. Then you make ignorant statements saying "there are no good carbs". Sure there are depending on your goals.
Maybe bcatt was an athlete and needs the carbs, not mention complex carbs in her system because they burn slower giving her extra energy.
