With respect, I've lost 108 lbs in a year while eating every one of the things you mentioned. In fact I've eaten every one of them - Halloween candy, my husband's birthday cake, Halo Top last night, bacon my husband made me for breakfast, and I just had a roll with dinner - in the past month, while staying within my calorie goals and losing weight. It's life, not a torture chamber, and there's no prize for who suffers the most.
Amanda, hi there! The advice you got to log for a week and then look at your diary and see where you are and how best to make changes is good advice. Figure out what makes you likely to overeat and how you can work around or avoid those situations, foods, places, or people. Can you substitute lower calorie options for some foods? Are there foods you should be eating that you could add? For example, I used to grab a candy bar instead of fruit when I wanted something sweet, because candy is easier. I crave it much less when I get enough fruit.
You have a great motivation in wanting to enjoy life with your family! Losing just 5 or 10% of your body weight has huge health benefits - you can definitely do that, and a small goal may help you keep from feeling overwhelmed at first. You've already done the hardest part by deciding to do something about your health.
At first you may not be able to be very active, but finding something you can do will make a huge difference in your ability to do more. Just walk around your house, swing water bottles or soup cans around while you watch TV. Each day do a little more. You will be amazed at what you can do.6 -

You've listed all the reasons you want to do this. If that doesn't push you, no one else can. What this site can do is give you tools that help you accomplish your goals.
You have a lot of changes to make and no one can make all of them at once. Start by getting a food scale, weigh, and log everything you eat. Don't worry about what to change until you've done that for 2 weeks. Then you can make a plan for a series of Small changes
This, in addition to the other great and insightful things! YOU CAN DO THIS. You did list all your reasons and they are good ones. Write them down in a note on your phone, stickynote on the refrigerator, 3x5 next to your debit card ... wherever it will remind you when you feel your knees wobble and your resolve soften, and we all do. Losing weight is a journey of single, small choices done "right enough" (not perfectly!) over a long, patient period of time. And that food scale and the logging will help you find out what "right enough" is for you.

With others I agree that you can change your privacy settings on Facebook. The motive to drive you forward is being to do more stuff with your children. The increased vitality gains are so, so, wonderful.
I suggest small weekly goals as in, go for three walks this week. Then re evaluate. Keep doing what works and make small changes where you need to.
Everest is conquered by staging camps. The successful climbers focus on getting to the next camp. That’s it.3 -
And I'll say one more thing that may have already been mentioned (haven't been through all the posts just yet):
Please be kind to yourself.
You will have hard days. You will make bad choices from time to time about how much or what you eat or will choose not to exercise one day. But DON'T beat yourself up about it and give up. I used to be bad about this. I'd have 1 bad day and then I'd allow it to turn into 2 bad days, then 3, then I'd be back to that tubby place and have to start all over.
Just pick yourself up, reach out here for support and get right back to it the next day.

Cut all the contact with those that call you names that is going to be detrimental to your weight loss success. To start with log all your food and drink honestly, make a point of logging on MFP everyday and gradually increase your mobility. Enlist the help of some good supportive friends on MFP and if you keep an open food diary we can help you with food choices if that is what you want. Good luck and show those loser name callers what you have achieved.2

best advise I can give is chart every day even if you go over your calories , water and fiber are your friends , fiber in its many forms helps keep you full . I am almost half way to my goal in 6 months , and with out fiber supplements and fiber rich foods like broth based soups full of high fiber vegetables , I would not have made it this far . Hunger is the enemy,, plan your day so you are not hungry ,do not wait until you are super hungry to plan meals or snacks , hunger can make you crave things that are not healthy choices, and make you eat in quantities that will slow your progress . I do not mean only eat low cal foods , make sure you save some calories for your favorite foods because you do not want to feel deprived . if you are too strict you will get frustrated.

There's no excuse for this kind of behavior, but some people are like that.
They get a kick of making people uncomfortable. It makes them feel better about their empty little lives.
But fat doesn't sneak up on you. It happens over time.
So the main question to you is:
ARE YOU READY FOR IT?
Are you ready to work you *kitten* off? Litteraly.
Are you ready to give up candy, cakes, ice cream, bread, bacon etc? Cheat meals are for pu$$ies and whiners.
Are you ready to tell the rest of the world to F**k off as they stare at you like just another fat girl that will inevitably give up? And they will.
You don't need back up. You need to do it.
You don't need approval. You need tenacity.
You don't need hand holding. You need to get up by yourself.
It's not about anyone else. It's about you.
Win or Lose. It's on you.

Whenever I feel like I'm not making progress or feel like skipping my healthy lunch I brought and going out for lunch with the office crew I log on here and read through the Motivation section. It helps remind me of what's possible if I stick with it. Just because I don't see progress every singe day doesn't mean progress isn't happening.

I started on MFP 26 months ago.
313 pounds.
SICK AND TIRED OF BEING SICK AND TIRED AND FAT!
I really had no idea what I was doing but I knew one thing.
I HAD TO LOSE WEIGHT!!
So I started. Logged every thing I ate, every day.
Read all the MFP dietary information and started cooking every meal and stayed focused.
I knew this was forever.
That helped when I had a bad day. I just started over.
Amanda. I am 51. Had a stroke. Had buried my daughter, couldn’t exercise, am isolated and have limited physical movement, but I didn’t make any more excuses.
I just did it.
I am 94 pounds down.
So if I can do it you can-But you are the one that has to make that commitment. EVERY DAY!

As a 44 year old mother of 4 who's lost 49lbs (most of it in 6months) I look back and wish I had done it 10 years ago.
As the others have said, only you can do it. Support is wonderful but really it's up to you. If u want to do it you can. It won't be easy but it might be easier then you imagine. If I'd known how well it'd go for me I would definitely have done it sooner. I so wish I had. None of the excuses I had in my head were valid. Sure it was easy to say with 4 young children it's impossible... blah blah blah! I eventually fell into it but my 2 regrets are : I didn't do it years ago and I didn't take a before picture.
The fat2fit group on here is a fantastic place for encouragement and accountability. They'll be inviting people to join the December challenge soon.

Hey girl. I checked out your profile and your "about me". I can totally relate. Before now the only time I was at a weight I liked was when I lost due to drugs, or pretty much starving myself. I never knew how easy simply counting calories would be. I thought losing weight was so far out of my reach that I didn't bother for so long. I now thank myself everyday for starting when I did, and doing it healthily this time. I would lay awake at night and just cry. I would wake up with a horrible horrible hole feeling in my gut every morning. I hated myself so much. But now those feelings are gone and this was the best thing I could have ever done for me and my family. As for random people calling you terrible things, I feel you. I would get random facebook messages telling me I was eating myself to death, from fake accounts, would still love to know who they actually were.
You don't have to workout, you don't have to set rules or restrictions. The biggest bonus from counting calories was that I saved a lot of money because I was eating less lol I gained 100+lbs when I got pregnant with my daughter, I've lost 75 so far. It's 100% doable, you just have to start.3 -
My nickname from grade7-9 was butterball. I've been called a bowling ball, a penguine and so many that I cant even remember now. I'm sure I get called many names behinde my back and yeah it sucks but as hard as it is I have ad to let the names go or they just get to me. I hope you find success and get as helathy as you can and do it the way that works best for you.1

First thing, buy an Activity Tracking Watch. My daughter bought me one and my weight loss took off. I'm down 40 plus pounds. I would concentrate on the how more than the why. The why you will probably figure out along the way. Even a one pound loss will change your morale.

I'm moved by your post and all of the support you got here.
You have a lot of solid reasons to make the necessary changes in your life. You also made a lot of amazing accomplishments at a young age too. It shows that you have a great set of skills to tap into to help you on your way. You'll find a wealth of support here.
As for the negative people, tune them out (easier said than done, been there done that) . Don't announce your plans, just do it. Saboteurs may lurk where you least suspect it. Let your results speak for themselves. Have faith, you can do this!2
