I doubt there will be much of a difference. Even if one does end up burning significantly more than the other, that "significantly more" is probably only going to amount to about 50-75 cals (i.e. one might give you 175 cals burned, the other might give 225).
So in the big picture, it doesn't matter. Neither will matter if your diet/intake isn't where it should be.3 -
Whichever one you like and will stick with.3

I used to do a 20 minute HITT session when i got home from school and then would go gym that evening and do another 20-25 mins on the eliptical trainer which wasn’t as intense cardio but was 400-500 calories. I heared HITT is better cardio for burning fat but if i am in calorie defecit it shouldnt matter shoult it ?

No, it shouldn't. The deficit is what causes fat loss, not one particular exercise vs another.0 -
Nobody burns 500 calories in 20 minutes. Such wild overestimates can erase your deficit for the whole day!3

Are you sure ?? Thats what the machine says after 25 mins? Omg that has made me stressed now as i have planned all my meals and that means im probs not making progress0 -

It's just barely within the realm of possible, but is so wildly unlikely as to be identified as impossible.0 -

If you mean the exercise machine, many of them give over-estimates of calorie burn. I wouldn't assume that it was right.0 -

I would assume 10 calories per minute to be on the safe side, so about 250 calories.2 -

So i wont be making much progress then0 -

You learned something new in reference to your fitness and diet. Make an adjustment and move on. This is how you make it work long term.
Don't worry about it!2 -

What do you mean by that? Cardio's benefits for fitness aren't limited to sessions with high calorie burn.1 -

You will still make progress so long as your intake is less than your expenditure, and even if the elliptical isn't burning as many calories as you might hope, it's still good for your overall stamina. There is no reason to stop.0 -
OP do you struggle with decision making in every day life or is it just that you're massively overthinking in a bid to diet the 'right' way?0

Harsh.

Because if i plan mymeals and then put my cardio in then i am in a calorie defecit. But if the cardio calories are burned are not accurate i may no longer actually be in a defecit without realising0 -

I did the math. If you can work out at an intensity that burns 1,500 calories per hour, you're going to win the Tour de France next summer. And that's not even consider the time you lost to rest intervals. Cardio machines are well known for reporting "vanity calories."0 -
Harsh.
I just want my results so badly0 -

I just want results so badly and have been trying for ages but still look terrible! I constantly feel negative about my body and the way i look

Which is misleading towards peoples goals0 -

This is why many people don't rely on cardio alone to create a deficit -- they plan their meals to create all or part of the deficit they need.2 -

I'd encourage you to start by planning your deficit into your daily eating... THEN, plan additional feeding to fuel your exercise.3 -

Yep. That's what most people want. Losing with takes time and effort. Most people don't want to spend time and effort, then want to exercise for 20 minutes and be told they're awesome.
Most machines don't know how many calories you've burned. There are some exercises that are easy to ballpark (like walking and running), some that can be measured actually (cycling, rowing), and many that are anybody's guess.0 -

The progress you make will be 99% based on your diet, NOT your exercise, as you said before. If you are in a deficit, you will make progress.1 -

What are your stats? If you are already very lean and can't see your abs, putting on muscle can help. If you have a bit of weight to lose, the small deficit is fine. Weight training and getting adequate protein help too to retain muscle.2 -

Any deficit will result in a weight loss. A deficit is simply eating less than your body is using over time. Smaller deficits result in slower weight loss, but you'll still lose weight.1 -

No problem. And I just noticed you are female. Having abs as a woman can be very difficult to achieve. Having a good muscle base is so important, otherwise at leaner levels the frame may look more skeletal than muscular/fit.1
