Breaking weight loss plateau

Hi everyone. I'd like to ask if anyone has any tips on breaking weight loss plateau or has any experience with it. I've lost 19kg but I'm stuck right now and I've looked through the internet and most websites say that it's better to join a gym which I unfortunately can't due to college and my studies. So please share any information you have regarding this

How long has it been since you stopped losing? How much have you lost? What's your activity level like?2
-
Have you checked if there are any threads on the subject here on MFP?2

It's been about a month and I've lost 19kg and my activity level is high since I run daily. There's also college so I'm not a lazy person anymore0 -
There are endless threads about it. If you're in a period where you need to concentrate your efforts elsewhere, then just embrace the plateau. (The next hardest thing to losing is maintaining.)
If and when you're ready to reduce (and presuming you have weight to lose), you need to really dig into figuring out what you're eating. It's difficult while eating cafeteria food for sure.
Best of luck!1 -

Thank you and I get what you're saying but I'm not eating cafeteria food since I go to college from home ( it's a 40 minute drive). I've checked other threads and they say that they're eating 1500 or so calories but I've eating 800-1000 calories since the start and reduced it to 600 during the plateau yet no loss and unfortunately I don't have that much time since a couple of weddings are coming up and I wanna look even more slimmer than I look now. Give everyone a surprise.6 -

I am hoping your are NOT weighing/logging food and are eating more that 800+ calories, now 600+ calories. And you are running everyday for exercise on such low calorie intake?

Put your health and well being first before all else. Trying to look good and surprising people with your weight loss is a terrible idea while putting your health at risk. If you have reached a point where eating more is a problem for you, please seek help.7 -

How slimmer are you? Height/weight
If you die from malnutrition , that will certainly surprise everyone.6 -
How are your classes? How can you function if you are eating so little? Are you tracking your food on MFP?0

Pump the brakes! You really need to give us more information because what you're telling us is frightening.
Height and weight? Are you measuring your calorie intake? If so, how? With a food scale? Are you measuring your calorie output? If so, how? How long have you been losing?1 -
lucerorojo wrote: »How are your classes? How can you function if you are eating so little? Are you tracking your food on MFP?
I take fiber in the morning and tbh after eating less I feel much better in class and yes I'm tracking my food here and every little thing0 -
Plateaus suck, but I think in some cases it is the body's way to catch up and try to compensate for the loss of incoming calories....I've had some last for a month....it is frustrating but makes you learn patience. For me, I would try a few things like going down to zero carbs, increasing water intake, etc. Nothing really helped. But mentally, I came to realize that it only frustrated me if I was setting weight goals. Instead, I started looking at this a a lifetime change, not a diet. I threw goals and deadlines out the window. So while plateaus still happened, it really didn't mean that much. I have reached my goal weight now and am maintaining....For me now, the "goal" is simply to eat healthy and exercise....not live for the scale....But it's different for everybody.0

My height is 6ft and weight right now is 79kg and yes I am measuring my calorie intake but not my output and I've been losing for 3-4 months.

I'm 6ft and 79kg I don't think I'll die from malnutrition since I make sure I'm getting everything plus it's hard to die when everyone in your house is a doctor.4 -

There is NO REASON to be on a VLCD unless you're morbidly obese and under a doctor's supervision.

You are clearly not eating enough. Besides putting your health at risk, you are only compounding any remaining weight loss you have, and a 6'0" male, active and exercises daily cannot possibly get in all macro and micro nutrients on 600 calories, not even a 1000 calories a day.
Supporting VLCD (very low calorie diets) is against the MFP guidelines. I hope that you will start accepting the help and advice given or reach out for doctor supervision.1 -

As a 6'0" male, looking like a Greek god(building muscle) is going to be much more impressive than looking like an anorexic girl or concentration camp victim.
Cut out the cardio and VLCD, bump up your intake(and protein) and start lifting heavy.6 -
Did not know the OP was male. That's even worse since the min. Calories for men on mfp is 1500. OP must eat more.1

While I don't think you're going to die from malnutrition, I don't think you could be getting all that your body needs on 600 cals a day. If you're consuming 60 grams of protein a day, which wouldn't be very much for a guy of your height and activity, that would be around 450 calories right there. Add to that some fiber that you would need, some healthy fats, hopefully some fruits and veggies, and you're over 600 calories. Even if you're taking vitamins, you do need to fuel your body and your workouts better than you are or you're setting yourself up for failure of some kind (sickness, injury, or just an inability to maintain the momentum).
I would up my calories for a week if I were you to around 2000 and see how you do, then try dropping down to 1500, which is still very low for your height and gender.0 -

Back off from the running and add in some pushups/pullups/dips/pistol squats, since you can't get to a gym.0 -
Apart from everything above, you don't really see or feel the immediate effects of what you're doing to yourself when you mess with your diet like this. From personal experience, ending up with several mineral and vitamin deficiencies that erode your day-to-day functioning severly is not fun and takes a long time to correct. Don't do that to youself willingly. Nobody here said anything with bad intentions in mind, quite the opposite.

600 calories a day for a 6ft tall male of any weight, and especially at 174lbs, that is a slow form of suicide.
If everyone in the house is a doctor (I presume you mean MEDICAL doctor, because a PhD in geology won't help here), then they are either unaware of your caloric restriction, or very poor practitioners and are a danger to anyone that they treat.
The fact that you seem so sure you are getting all of your nutrients on such an insufficient diet, without numbers, grams, specific details suggests to me some underlying form of mental disorder or body dysphoria where you feel surprising everyone at a couple of weddings is more important that proper nutrition and good health and wellness.2 -
19kg - Thats 3 stone - 42 pounds. Thats a lot lost already.
At 79kg thats not a bad weight for a 6' male.
Why are you Still trying to lose so much weight.
Whats your target weight?
You should take it easy or you will end up losing muscle with such low calorie intake.
600cal is not sustainable long term as you have already burned off a lot of the extra weight you were carrying your body will now be in danger of burning healthy muscle tissue.
You should aim to eat at your maintenance level - and let the exercise take care of the rest slowly.

So I've understood what you all are trying to say and it's that I should bring my body back to the normal calorie count and do strength training instead of cardio. The doctors in the house don't know what I'm doing since they aren't here everyday. I'm still concerned that if I amp my calories then my body might gain weight but I'll go with the public opinion and start eating food to bring back my metabolism to normal which should end the plateau hopefully. Thanks everyone for pointing out the stupid mistake in my diet and someone asked what weight I'm trying to reach? Well I just want no prominent fat in my body, not even chubbiness anywhere in my body. I've grown to hate fat a lot over the years. So I want my weight to be around 68-70kg.
