Green tea diet

Ive read about how good it is to drink 3-4 cups of green tea a day for weight loss. i was planning to try it for a month or 2. i failed, i forgot to bring it with me. Although i did try it for 2-3 days and my weight did actually go down quickly. but for those 2-3 days i also wasnt eating very much at all, besides alot of watermelon. whats your views of this diet type thing?

I drink a lot of green tea sometimes, and other times I drink none, and it's never done a single thing for my weight loss.
Basically, a study showed that green tea extract had a minor, minor effect on metabolism as a high dosage. People trying to generate clicks and sell magazines translated that to "Green Tea is a weight loss miracle!" and this was born.
If 4 cups of green tea a day replaced 4 cups of something with calories, it would help you lose weight, BUT only because you are consuming less calories. The green tea could just as well be diet soda, water, coffee etc and have the same effect, so long as a reduction in calories is achieved.15 -

Green tea is a tasty beverage, but there is no magic in there for weight loss.8 -

i drink ONLY water, i know its supposed to help with weight loss because of the caffeine, it may be true or not. i just like trying stuff like this.8 -

It has half the caffeine of normal tea, and a third of the caffeine of coffee.15 -

Isn't watermelon a natural diuretic? I'd guess you lost weight due to the water weight fluctuations from undereating combined with a diuretic rather than the tea.
I don't know which studies you've read. Those I've come across have a small sample size and never show more than a 4% increase to metabolism. That's well within the margin of error for calorie counters.
Green tea is nice if you like it, but personally I wouldn't base my weight loss on the tea alone.14 -

im not basing my weight loss solely on it once i restart the green tea. ive been consistently loosing weight every week so im just doing it to see what itll do.6 -
You aren’t treating your experience in a controlled manner (all eating the same with green tea added) so there is nothing to learn from your experience.12

You have not set up a controlled experiment.
If you like green tea, drink it, though, as it's a perfectly fine thing to drink. Me, I dislike green tea. I like Earl Grey and some other black teas, and lost 95 lbs drinking lots of coffee, so I guess that means coffee causes weight loss.14 -

i actually hate tea. i was making the tea, putting ice in it and downing it super quickly lol. im not depending on it for weight loss, i just like trying stuff like this and find it interesting. once i restart it ill be back on my regular diet and drinking the green tea ill see what it does to my weight and body.8 -
If green tea (and not eating little and most of it watermelon) was what made you lose weight rapidly in 2-3 days, don't you think everyone would be on it? You're on a site full of people trying to lose weight. If it were that easy to boost it, you'd have stampedes to the tea store.5

i just find it interesting. things said to make you lose weight or alter your body. It may not be legit but i still find it interesting.7 -

i just find it interesting. things said to make you lose weight or alter your body. It may not be legit but i still find it interesting.

Changing your diet resulted in consuming less calories, which is all that matters for weight loss. Nutritious food for health, calories for weight loss. You could lose weight eating nothing but Twinkies if you ate less calories than you burned. You'd be unhealthy and feel like crap, but you'd lose weight.14 -

I think by some of the stuff ive been saying it does sound like i don't understand the process of weight loss. But i do, i just wanted to TRY this random, false, fad diet. I dont have any expectations of weight loss from this. i expect weight loss from healthy eating, lower calories sometimes and working out.8
