As my older gray haired self was bundling up to leave the gym this evening, a young woman I had seen in the weight room for the first time yesterday was coming in. I had assumed she was a student. But she told me she was an RN in a rehab facility and that she wanted to tell me how much she admired seeing me work out in the weight room.24

I visited Victoria’s Secret today for the first time in my life and bought three things!34

My cardiologist told me today that I was doing all the right things, and that if all his patients did as well, he'd be out of a job. I was pleased! Fwiw, I had a double bypass in July.50

All of these happened today!! Feels like the first real progress I've seen...
1 ) tried on a pair of once very tight jeans and they fit
2 ) was then motivated to try my goal pants on. They are a size 8 from Rickys so maybe a bit forgiving. Before I couldn't even start to get them on and now they go all the way on (but I still can't do them up). After starting at a size 16/18 last year, this is super encouraging
3) took a pic with friends today and noticed how slim my face was looking33 -
Went to Vegas with my husband for 2 days to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Ended up walking 30K and 33K steps in those two days (breaking the previous record of 28.5K when walking all over Paris in summer), eating all we wanted once per day, watching two great shows, watching Bellagio fountains from our room in Bellagio - having some serious fun29

I had to throw out my favourite pair of jeans as they literally fell of me at the grocery store when I reached up to grab something. (Damn as they were my favourite - but awesome that they are way too big).27

Managed to not gain any weight during holiday celebrations, and I really ate what I wanted....31

I can do 35 consecutive pushups. For my age that puts me above average. A couple years ago I could barely do 15. And yet I weigh more than I did then.25

I joined a Jazzercise group a couple of months ago and still find it difficult to keep up with all the quick moves and spend most of the hour feeling clumsy.
But I keep going because I like the challenge and figure it is good for my quickly ageing body to move differently from my usual routine.
When I first joined, they had started a motivational competition to win a towel for the 3 women who attend class the most. Yep, I was in the #1 spot!29 -

My husband walked into the bedroom while I was changing the other day and said 'Wow you've lost a lot of weight, good to you' It's not like he hasn't been here with me all along but you know how we have those moments when we actually clock our weight loss when we catch sight of ourselves at a new angle or whatever. So he had one of those about me and it was nice22

Over the past year I have dropped 30 pounds. My NSV is that because of my change in eating and cooking style my husband has lost 20 pounds and a lot of inches. We cleaned his closet today and donated 27 pair of pants/jeans and 22 shirts. So proud of him for letting go of the thought that he might gain it back.31

My NSV for today is that I went for a cycle ride.
Hah! Not unusual for Madwife2009, I hear you say.
But it was, as three days ago I fell off my bike at 14mph. Twice. Both times within a few minutes of each other. Due to black ice. Thanks to my local council being too mean to grit the non-main-arterial roads. The second time I fell off must have looked pretty spectacular as a passing motorist stopped to offer me a lift home (in his rather nice looking sports car) - he even offered to stick my bike in the boot but I declined as there was no way I was going to let him put my dirty bike in his lovely, shiny car. Besides which, I was walking and talking so perfectly capable of getting home.
It hurt, falling off my bike. The first time, the bike and I travelled 10 yards along the road together and all I could think was "I really hope a car doesn't shoot around the bend!". I got up, checked I was alive and got back on again. The second fall was a bit harder but again, I just wanted to get out of the road as I could see headlights approaching (the nice man in the very nice car; and there was I, thinking that I was well past eyeing up cars!).
My bike was a bit damaged - lots of scratches and scuffs with a couple of dents that DH says he can fix quite easily. I came off worst and am badly bruised/battered from hip to toe on one side, with a couple of small bruises on the other side (where the pedal caught me).
I didn't go out on the bike the day after as it was my daughter's birthday plus it rained most of the day. I didn't go out yesterday as the weather was again appalling, with high winds all day.
Today was better (wind speed down to a mere 15mph) and I had a spare hour, so decided to take the bike out to check that it was usable as when I'd taken it home after the falls, it didn't seem quite right. I was really worried about going out on it but went anyway. It was painful as my leg is pretty battered but the worst part was the stress as I was more than a little bothered about getting on the bike again. As I approached the parts of my ride where I'd fallen off, I could feel my pulse/breathing getting quicker - it wasn't due to the physical exertion, it was sheer panic that I was going to hit the deck again. It was pretty scary.
But I made it home in one piece (despite the best efforts of many motorists). My bike needs a bit of TLC as the gears have taken a hit and aren't quite right but that's easily fixed.
So, the NSV is that I did not allow my falls and subsequent bruises/bumps/scrapes to stop me from exercising. It would have been so easy to do so, given that the weather conditions were far from ideal.

And tomorrow it is supposed to be nicer than today so I'll be park-running at 8.30am (very slowly I would imagine unless I get miraculously better between now and then) and then a bike ride at some point as well. Just because I can.

My NSV is that today, for probably the first time in at least 15 years I was able to wear a 2XL shirt. How cool is that?34

I’ve realised my plantar fasciitis has all but gone. I’ve suffered with it for so long I’d pretty much resigned myself to always feeling pain when I first hobble around in the morning.38

Today I did day 1 week 1 of c25k. I have previously lost 57 lbs and have a great fitness regime, but lately I have put on 5 lbs, despite keeping within CICO. I think my body has just got more efficient. I downloaded the UK NHS podcast and set off this afternoon. I have a dodgy left knee (genetic), so have been a bit reluctant to try running, but I seem to have survived! I am resolved to do the running 3 afternoons a week and kettlebell swings on the other days, or maybe dancing, to add onto my morning regime of cardiovascular and strength training. I hope that will see me back at maintenance.
By the way, I am 68, so hope for everyone!39 -

My most recent NSV:
Was secretly playing “race against the person next to me” on the treadmill yesterday at my gym. I knew I couldn’t really keep up with his speed, so I topped off about .5 speed slower than him and settled on bumping up the incline to get something equally challenging (in my head) going against this guy.
We both wrapped up at about the same time, so I leaned over afterward and said a quick “thanks - you motivated me to push myself today” to which he surprisingly responded “are you kidding? I saw what you were doing... your speed and incline together were nothing short of impressive. You were motivating ME to keep pushing.”
Wow... never thought my efforts would be seen as motivating to anyone short of maybe a turtle or a snail. Lol. Ended my 2017 on a high note56 -

I’m officially in size mediums across the board. Not just sometimes if something fits a bit large! The feeling of “I don’t need Xs any more” has gone to “no larges here”30

Donated platelets yesterday. The Red Cross was giving away long sleeved T-shirts to the donors. The nurse asked me "What size?" I said "Large" without thinking. Then was second guessing myself on the way home. "Maybe I should have asked for an XL".
Tried it on today. It fit. Well. Color me happy. Maybe I can say "Medium" someday soon without thinking about it.25 -
Restarted MyFitnessPal today and ate no sweets!28
