Marcelynh, I was getting my nails done by a woman named Delia and she was telling me that a woman was talking to the receptionist and asking for Daffodil. Delia couldn't convince her that she wasn't daffodil! We laughed..4

Well all the Christmas candy is gone. I have found that to be a good thing as it puts me in a mind set to make better choices all around. So just eat that chocolate candy and it's gone. Got a couple of weird things in my stocking. Some one bought me 'charmin to go'. It's a very small roll of charmin toilet paper in a small Rons container. And I got two of them! I guess you always need to be prepared. Then my SIL made these sewing kits in a mason jar. The top o fit is a pin cushion and it has 6 pins stuck in it. Inside is a very weak pair of sciccors, several rolls of different colors of thread, a piece of colored foil that has several needle in it and a thimble. It's cute and I'm sure she had fun putting them all together. She made similar things for all the guys. But the mason jars were just filled with candy. But the top of the Mason jars were all slit so a person could put money in it. For some reason my cats are behaving themselves today.
Well. Even nough my blood pressure isn't at the level I would like it to be when I go to bed my medicine has told me it's time to put all my electronic stuff up and go to bed.

Heather, I don't know if you saw my post a couple of weeks ago telling that I received an Instant Pot as a Christmas gift from my daughter. I've been afraid to use it but have been looking up recipes on the internet and printing them. So today I got brave and made 15 bean and pork neck soup. Oh my, I may have discovered your crazy love of cooking with it.
I'll be trying it again tomorrow.

Hello all from Melbourne Australia!
I joined MFP so long ago I can't remember, but fell off the wagon, but I'm new to this group, having hit the big 5-0 last July.
Well, last year was a bust as far as goals - I got an infection from a dodgy water filter, had a CFS crash and instead of losing weight I gained - about 10 kilos. My doctor was having fits!
I was already doing lo carb and exercise as best I could but the plan I've had success with in the past didn't work as well as it usually does - it took me four months to lose 3 kilos. Not good.
Anyway, on a whim, I decided to haul out the desktop app to prove to my doctor I wasn't eating my way through the pastry section and, lo and behold, nearly 3 kilos since the 12 December - logging what I'm eating has really kept me accountable. I must have been having a lot of extras without realising it as my weight was fluctuating over the same two kilos for months.
So, my resolutions for January:
Do at least one 5Rhythms (dance) session per week
Gym at least every second day
Successfully complete the TLS 21 Day Challenge (last two times I've had to drop out due to illness)
Track my food and exercise intake on MFP, diary or both
Keep logging my water on my phone app
Be down to 95 kilos or less at the end of the month.
Buy a Fitbit as my MiBand doesn't seem to sync with anything.
Looking forward to interacting with you all and hi in particular to all my fellow Aussies!

My most frequently logged foods for 2017 were celery, carrot, and skim-milk kefir. :noway:
If you want to see your own statistics, go to http://www.myfitnesspal.com/year-in-review/2017 Machka has already posted this link, but I think it bears repeating.
Machka - I also gain weight temporarily whenever I start running (or biking) after a long hiatus. No doubt it'll sort itself out again soon.
Marcelyn - A couple days ago you mentioned that your husband had been to Stavanger. I'm curious, did he fly direct from Houston to Stavanger? A few years back, SAS had a direct flight between those two oil towns for a while. The route used a plane SAS leased from another company called "Privatair". Since the passengers were mainly oil people on company business, the plane was reconfigured for all-business-class seating. Later on, that route was discontinued and the plane was put on the Copenhagen--Boston route, where I flew with it several times. But the most intriguing thing about that plane was that before it was on the Houston--Stavanger route, it served the Norwegian research station in Antarctica!
About running and racing: I run mainly because it helps keep me fit and I enjoy it. Nowadays. I absolutely hated running back in high school, and didn't start doing it voluntarily until I was nearly 30. It took about a month before I "got it" and figured out how to pace myself so I didn't crash and burn. Back then, we lived on campus at the University of East Anglia (Norwich, England) and my running track of about 1 km went around a little lake. On the far side of the lake there was a little dip in the path, with wild mint plants on either side. Every time I ran past, I brushed against the leaves and was rewarded by an explosion of fresh mint scent on the cool misty air. That really helped establish running as a positive experience for me!
My daughter (who runs over 2000 miles per year) is thinking of coming up to Svalbard for the Spitsbergen (Half-)Marathon in June. Maybe I'll join her. We both ran it two years ago, and that was fun. Hmm... Maybe I'll run it regardless.
Here are my December goals, with results
Exercise: More than in November, including core exercises
Did pretty well on this, especially the core work. But I realize now I've got to use a more specific descriptor than "more" if I'm going to quantify my results
Meditation: Keep it up
Yay! Did it! I only lost my grip right at the end of the month, when parties and stuff meant we were going to bed late. To help myself fall asleep, I did my 10-20 minute meditation sitting naked on top of the bedding. My theory is that the exposure helped reduce my body temperature, making it easier to fall asleep.
Menu planning: Keep it up
Three weeks out of four ain't bad.
Logging: Aim to log at least half the days this month
Total flop!
January goals:
Log everything (15 days or more)
Plan the menus (all five weeks)
Reboot my 500 gram per day raw veggie habit (Why did I let myself fall off that fantastic bandwagon?)
Meditate (25 nights or more)
Core/strength training (25 times or more)
Hit 10000 steps a day (25 times or more)
Run a (modest) total of 100 km

Morning, afternoon, and evening all... and a big welcome to those who are new! Please tell us what to call you at the end of each post, and a place helps, too - it gets hard to keep up with people, but that makes it easier to reply to specific folks.
Carol - I wasn't saying things have tumbled with our living situation, was saying everyone's relaxing enough to be themselves, and those selves are occasionally cranky. It's human. Love gets you through a lot, and our daughter is an amazing and loving person. That said, when she went out to meet the crapweasel sperm donor in the driveway, she had her pistol with her (she has a concealed carry license). That may tell you how much she trusts him. But, he brought Tyler with him, left unperforated, and now all her chicks are home.
Lanette - so glad you liked the Big Book of Death posts - there's no greater gift you can give your family when you pass away than making sure all the details are resolvable. Didn't post it, but I've actually written my obituary--wanted to make sure people are laughing at my funeral. With seven kids of her own, and me second from the bottom, my mother still had her funeral insurance made out to me, as she knew I'd deal with it. When you're grieving over a loved one, it's even harder to wade through all the detritus of their lives and try to make sure it's all settled correctly. Allie's struggle comes to mind, and at least she has time with her dad to hopefully get it all sorted out.
And speaking of which, Allie - you are such an amazingly strong person. Proud of you continuing to get along with Tom, even with his past behavior. Proud of him that he's helping out, and your son, as well.
All my chicks may be with us in March. Our son, who got out of the Air Force mid-year, is using his GI Bill to go to culinary school in Denver. One of his uncles got him an apartment, paid for the deposit, etc., so he could start school this week, and he's planning on coming out to see us at his spring break, end of March. I'll be in El Paso when he gets here, if the dates are what we think they are, but will be back soon after. Trying not to count my chickens before they hatch, but it would be lovely to see him. Miss that boy, and he's that one you have the constant niggling worry about. Seems like everyone has one of those kids...
Glad to be back in somewhat of a routine... like Marcelyn, I run for pleasure, not for pain, and at 17 degrees F outside (-8 C), I ain't running anywhere. So, this morning, I'll be looking for an exercise video on Amazon Prime that I can use to get the exercise I need without blowing my knees out even worse.
My word for 2018 is BALANCE...
Love y'all!

Hi! I saw this board about 4 months ago and found it to be interesting. I'm 55, a mother, grandmother, wife, and a loser.... I hope to continue to be a loser and get to my healthy weight range goal.
I mostly have lurked and been reading posts to learn and gain inspiration. Just figured I'd start off the new year by stepping out there and saying Hey!12 -
Ouch! I sliced into the tip of my index finger on my left hand making a salad way back when I was about 20, and still have the scar. It took years before I had feeling back in the tip of that finger.
I hope yours isn't as bad.3 -
Mornin’ and off we go! I do love a clean slate First day back to work - strategy really is stronger than will power—healthy meals and snacks are prepped, clothes are ready to go and gym bag is packed!
I am taking on two “fun” challenges this month just because..one is an uberfrugal challenge-no spending and a 48 hour wait period if you must spend, should be interesting—the other challenge is a meal planning boot camp that sends tips to use up pantry items, no unnecessary grocery trips with fun recipes to use up what you’ve got in the bottom of the freezer.
Janet you are gonna love the IP. Have you made hard boiled eggs yet—they peel like a dream. I just made my favorite lentil soup for the week-love it!
Stay warm ladies. NYKAREN

I sliced my thumb when I was slicing the zucchini for the lasagne NYE. I was using an OXO Y peeler - very sharp! It still has a bandage on it.
Today I'm going to do kettlebell swings for my pm extra exercise. I woke up with a stiff lower back today, but I tend to do that from time to time. Still did all my exercises though. I am now up to 8 military push ups. I started at 1. (Press ups in UK) On alternative days I do 22 from the knee push ups. I have noticed a big difference in my arms, which are looking sooooooo much better. My right one still has a bit of wrinkly skin left over from years of lymphodema, but I think I may be able to go bare armed this summer and maybe buy a sleeveless formal dress for the cruise. That would be huge for me.
Penny - We very sadly took down the 2017 Spitzbergen calendar that I bought in your church when we visited you. We are keeping it though, for the photos. (We now have a British Railway posters one up.) Our trip to Svalbard and our meet up with you was one of the most memorable of our lives.
Janetr - I hope you will have fun with it. I do so much more than "cook" with it. Masses of websites out there with great info. I lurk on the Facebook Instant Pot Community via Google and have garnered loads of links. I bookmark recipes and websites under an IP file. It is best to use a trusted recipe until you get the hang of it. Lots of helpful videos too. Americans cook loads of things that we don't much over here, like mac n cheese and ribs, but I'm always interested to see what people cook. For me the "keep warm" function is one of the best things about it and the fact that I don't have to watch it. Just walk away!
Well, time to get on with my editing of my memoir.

Morning Ladies~
Up showered and ready for work.. I have a favorite pair of earrings that I lost one of them.. I tried finding replacement to no avail.. I am heartbroken I sure do hope it turns up.
Alfie does not seem to be a morning dog lol he is curled back up on the bed...it is frigid cold out and would rather him use his wee wee pads than get his paws frostbitten
today is my sons 33rd birthday.. and bless his heart he has really stepped up to the plate taking care of grandpa..
he even said he would take FMLA to help him recoup from surgery...
what he doesnt know(dad) is he will probably need a hospital bed for awhile... where they will put it is beyond me.. but he has a full size bed in his bedroom and crap piled up on one side and all around the bedroom..that will be a project soon..
I am having my tea...and will go walk Homer and Chester before work and then go to work.. we have to punch out for lunch so will come home and get the dog out... and then go back to work... I am working until 6 tonight.
I am having a hard time wanting to control dads situation, but I will let him make the calls to Dr and surgeon .but want biopsy results sent to me.. which I can ask for and get..5 -
Hello all, been lurking the last month, but decided to post this time, last time I posted was probably June or July, went off track for a few months with my snacking so on December I went to hypnotherapy and now I'm doing three meals a day win no snacking In between which is working well for me. Finished the year with 30kg down which I was very pleased with. My word for the year is persistence, I need to continue with the healthier habits I've been working on. I keep telling myself I don't have to finish today, I just have to make progress, which helps me in my goal of decluttering etc.
Pam in Adelaide
Welcome, Pam, My eating plan is more than three meals a day but I eat at specific times and will not eat at any other time. When I go to parties and people offer me food that they assume is food I would eat, they often don't understand when I tell them that I don't eat anything at this time of day. It is a plan that I've stuck to for a long time and it works for me. My word for 2018 is "tenacity". I hope you'll keep coming back.

Sue I hope heat is back on. Are your water pipes okay? If you still do not have heat. Leave a faucet running at a small steady stream. I hate to waste water, but it is necessary in the situation you are in with no heat and freezing weather. That will hopefully keep your pipes from freezing. The homes further south do not have as much insulation as we have up here. We are at below zero up here in Minnesota. When I look at the map the cold snap is all over. We are more used to the cold, but the cold we have now is dangerous. Frost bite on unprotected skin in 10 minutes.
Those of you in the path of this cold another thing you can do to prevent pipes from freezing is open up your cabinets under your sinks. They also sell an insulating material you can put around your pipes. We do this for our hot water pipes to save energy. We also have hot water heat and I have insulated some of those pipes too.
If you have plastic pipes you can wait until it warms up to unfreeze them. If you have copper like we do you unfortunately have to call in the plumbers, and they are probably booked solid now. Frozen copper pipes can burst, and then you do have a mess.
It is another reason you do not want to set your thermostat less than 50 degrees.
I did brave the cold to get to Target's 90 per cent off sale. Our church has a party every year where they gift wrap presents for those in need. I bought 4 big rolls of wrapping paper for less than $2.00. Also bought some scarfs and hats for students at 50 cent a piece. New stuffed animals for my friend who teaches Kindergarten also at 50 cent each. They were just about to box the remainder up and send it off to Goodwill. I laughed with the clerk they have just that much less to box up. I did buy myself an ugly sweater coffee cup for 50 cents because it made me laugh, and I am going to an ugly sweater tea this Saturday. I thought I would bring my own cup.

Marcelyn - A couple days ago you mentioned that your husband had been to Stavanger. I'm curious, did he fly direct from Houston to Stavanger?
No, he flew from Edinburgh, Scotland to Stavanger. It was the quite the experience as on the way back he sat next to a man who was quite talkative. He was speaking English but had such a heavy Scottish brogue that my husband said he only understood one out of every ten words. He did a lot of head nodding that flight. lol

Another is in transition, having done his 4 years in the Navy, married, and is going to have the Navy pay for his electrical college, when he does start. Wife is starting first, also out of the Navy, studying to be a nurse. My youngest has just entered the Nuclear Navy, so he will be in the next 2 years.

Did Gilad's Cardio Classic DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to go to the deep water class. I wonder how it will be since it's so cold here.
Welcome everyone new!
Penny - that's horrible. My peelers are never sharp enough where they'd slice off part of my thumb Hope it heals fast for you and that you aren't inconvenienced too much.
Lisa - "left unperforated". Loved it! You have such a great way with words
Heather - whenever I do a pushup, I always need to do it from my knees. Well, unless I'm only doing one. I am just concerned that on my toes I don't have proper form
barbie - how can someone go a year without shopping? I understand not shopping for clothing, etc. But you need to go shopping for groceries. How did she do it?
Have to volunteer at the Green Room today. It should be slow since tickets are only sold to benefactors today, and there aren't all that many benefactors. Wonder if Lynette's mother will come in. She's a benefactor and many times comes in the moment she can. I know me, and I'll have a few cups of tea while I'm there. As a matter of fact, they have a Keurig machine so I gave them pods of tea. That's the least I can do. After the Green Room I think I'll go to Aldi. Vince needs milk and there are a few things there that I can use.

Click on that star (the one above the magnifying glass). When you click on that star, it will turn yellow. Now this site is bookmarked. In the future, you can just click on the star (the one on the line of the bell, numbers, star and cob) to get your bookmarks

You join simply by making posts here.
This thread is in the Motivation and Support subforum within MFPs forums, and since there's a lot of activity here, it is almost always right near the top. Easy to find. Personally, I don't "bookmark" this site because I don't want all the notifications.
However, if you want to do that, scroll up to the top, then look to the right side of your screen. Look for a clear star, on the right, in line with where it says, "WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR JANUARY 2018".
If you click that clear star, it will turn yellow, and voila ... you'll start receiving more notifications that you could imagine.
Welcome here!

Hi ladies,
Welcome to the newbies. Glad you could join us. This is a wonderfully supportive group both for weight loss as well as life events. Post whenever you feel the urge.
Allie, what a gift you are to your father. I hope he is receptive to getting everything in order. Although it’s not something that is easy to discuss, it is such a gift when parents have their plans made. Mine did and I will for my DD.
Barbie, I like your only 3 meals a day and wish I could do that. I have low blood sugar so should eat about 8 times a day. I have the hardest time in the evenings but try not to eat anything after 7. So a lot of planning to spread the calories out. I tend to eat the same things to make it easier.
Penny, hope your finger heals quickly . That’s a hard place to have a cut.
Well have the day off and spending it with DD. I have errands to run and we plan to go to a restaurant we like for their salad bar. Also have to go grocery shopping as I don’t have a lot of “good” food.
Well better get on the move. Hope you all have a nice day.
