Found 3 real silver shillings from trip to the UK in the 70s. Our external windowsills are either inaccessible or non-existent so put on the deck railing last night, and brought in this morning.
Evie please keep us posted on your room progress. Moved here in September and what isn't put away is either in the garage encroaching on Joe's Man Cave, or piled up in my office. [shudder]
Becca, there really IS something about a man in a kilt
Joyce so glad you are home from hospital What is a Google House?
Janetr you sound kind of "stuck". Been there and it stinks. Someone on this thread suggested micro-actions. That helps me get unstuck and feel better. Is there one micro-action you could do right now?
Sharon I am so with you re: Cilantro, Brussels sprouts and kohlrabi. Greysyn truly sounds exceptional, and Keira so very bright. So glad they're in your life.
Viv You sure had your hands full! How old is Grandson with pneumonia?
Karen in Va Love "Pluck"!
Times up, time to play with Tumble.
Mindful Hugs to all,

Had to,skip.a bit but will go back tomorrow. I thought my new year had a rough beginning until I read Viv!s post. We woke up at 4:30 am when the power went off and the fire alarms started blaring. Last night and today was the coldest in years. 19 with a wind chill of 0. We had to go out in the garage , get the ladder and disable the fire alarms. Electric company said power would be on a 8 am. At 8 they said 2:30 in the afternoon. By now the house wAs down in The low 50s. So we dressed warmly and went out to find a restaurant open. After eating, we went to the Y and joined up. Since it was warm there, we stayed a couple of hours. I walked on the track and dh read the paper. When we got home we found out a transformer had blow out and it would be repaired in a few hours.
I have my years planned but will post tomorrow.
Oh, HEATHER - when we moved to England we would plan outing for the weekend and if it was raining we would stay home. After a few months, we decided we had to get our Wellington’s and umbrellas and go.

I’ve struggled this year with my teeth and eyes and knees and neck and weight.
• My teeth are finally almost right. I’ve had implant surgery for three teeth. Cracked roots in the anchor tooth of a bridge... and then broke another tooth. I’m waiting for crowns for #14 and #15. I’m waiting for more integration time for the #4 implant. Otherwise my teeth appear to be doing fine. • My eyes... i have narrow angle glaucoma.... it’s an anatomical condition. The shape of my eyes prevents adequate drainage of the aqueous fluid. So.. the.pressure stays too high in my eyes. Ocular hypertension. A year of trying drops. Then an iridotomy in each eye - where they laser a hole in each iris. Then changing drops. Then adding more drops. Pressure checks every 3 months. Finally got a pressure reading in the normal range. Of course insurance won’t cover one of the drops. So we may try a different one.
• The knees... i think if i focus on getting the weight off and moving more... I’ll see an improvement. Or at least be in better shape for surgery.
• My neck.... I’ve got a pinched nerve causing numbness in fingers of my right hand. I need a better pillow. And... i need to get back to my neck exercises.
So... lots of room for improvement this year.
I am finding it difficult to read this forum on my iPad. So... i May need a new prescription.

Well, the cookies are gone and I am starting to get back on track.I tracked everything today and was over calories by about 150. I'm okay with that, tho. I didn't do any formal exercise today but did do some work on the big pile of snow that the plow left behind. We live in a townhouse, the last one before the fence at the edge of the property and that's where the plow piled the snow. There wasn't really anywhere else to put it and we could still get in and out of the garage so it was all good. Anyway, we wanted to break it up a bit so that it will melt faster. Spent about 30 min doing that, so pretty sure I burned off a few of those calories! I also did some cleaning and running up and down the stairs so I'm good with my day. No time to send out individual hugs, congrats, or welcomes but if it applies to you please know that I'm thinking about you!

Ginger Good to see you posting! Happy New Year! and Welcome to all the new women!
@OConnell5483 We live on a pond. No lake, just a small pond, but we have lots of wildlife. We saw a Bald Eagle recently, and there are hawks, Blue Herons, Canada Geese, ducks, turtles, frogs, bass, sunfish, snakes, etc., and many, many songbirds. I worry about the songbirds with the hawks and eagles but 'tis the circle of life...

Machka and Marilyn, I too can gain weight even while doing lots of long runs training for a marathon. They say hard exercise makes you feel hungrier. Your body likes to maintain its homeostatis. The only way I find to really drop weight is to throw in the odd fasting day. It also resets my Sugar Monster button to a lower level.

Welcome newbies!
Ginger, sounds like you have had a rough year. Wishing you a better 2018.
Sue, sounds like you have had a rough start to the year too. It can only get better right?
Spent the day off my feet as my ankle has been sore. It’s because of my darn flat feet and my foot turning in. Seems to be a little better tonight.
Eating had been much better but unfortunately over my calorie limit. But I know it’s going to be difficult to get back on track after being off for a while. I also need to go to the grocery store which I’ll do tomorrow. Once I have better choices in the house I’ll do better. I know I can do this as I have before.
-10 here tonight and we have had the wood stove on all day.
Well ready to read so signing off for today.

Did one segment of 10MS Tone Trouble Zones DVD, held my plank for 2 min 53 sec, then did the Get Ripped with Jari Love DVD. Boy, holding that plank was work today. Well, that's what happens when you don't do it for 2 weeks. I had to keep saying "you can do it". The plan for tomorrow is to do Gilad's Cardio Classic DVD
Wendy - I really hope the New Year is good to you. In a way it's nice that dd#1 moved back home.
Joyce - so glad that you are home. You know, when you're in your own bed and your own pajamas, don't have someone taking your bp at all hours of the night, you'll most likely get better faster.
It's 21 degrees here. I'm so cold. And for me that's unusual. Could use a hot flash about now. Well, at least it isn't as bad as Jess (17) and Denise (11). We're having mahjongg tonight and I'm seriously considering putting on longjohns (I park up the hill and walk down to her house because I always bottom out pulling out of her driveway).
janetr - I'm like you, the same goals over and over. So I've given up setting goals. I know what I want to do and if it happens, that's great
Viv - I'm so sorry about your granson. Glad they found out what caused the seizure. The two teeth he knocked out -- were they baby teeth?
Karen in VA - you sound as much of a party animal as me. Only I didn't go to bed before the ball dropped. But I did go to bed right after. Ball drop, called the girls to wish them a Happy New Year, and then bed.
Debbie from TN - welcome! Good for you being up only 4 pounds. I think that's probably how much I'm up. But I know that I'll lose it
Vince got a few more controllers. Someone was selling them on eBay. Just what we need --- NOT
Deb from NJ and Karen and Terina - welcome!
Lenora - so glad you found us again! Glad to hear you're getting better all the time. How I hated not being able to drive so I completely understand your feeling. It'll feel so great once you can drive, believe me
Kate - feel better soon
I sent Denise a message on facebook saying how hurt I was that she posted a picture of the placq that the people at Kennett made but nothing, no picture, no mention, of the placq I had made for her. She messaged me back saying that she only posted the pictures that she had on her phone. Is that lame or is that lame? I know I sent the pictures to Pete. All she had to do was ask him to send it to her and it would have been on her phone. She evidentally took a picture of the placq that the people at Kennett made. She could just as easily have taken a picture of the placq that I made. But she didn't.
Rita - spectacular!
Victoria - welcome. Come here for lots and lots of support
Carol - welcome
mtcmarks - you became part of the group the minute you posted. Come back often
Just got back from playing mahjongg. I maj'd twice, both times on hands that I'd never done before
subdew - longjohns, here you come. That's awful!
Lisa and Fran - welcome
Ginger - (((HUG)))
Don't really know why, but I'm really, really, cold. Going to go to bed.

My name is Marcelyn. Not Marilyn. I get everything from Marilyn, Marcella, Marchella... but it's Marcelyn. Pronounced "Mar-suh-lynn".
Sometimes I just get tired of always answering to something else (in school they would start with my brother's name and go through all the siblings before they got to me - small town, same teachers for all of us)
If you were talking to a Marilyn I missed, sorry.
Thanks.

Welcome, now that you've posted and bookmarked the thread, it should take you back to where you last read or at least to that page, then you can read what's been posted since you were last here. You will find many women here with situations and challenges similar to yours.

Start at the beginning and work your way through to the end. I skim because there can be a lot, and if I see something ... like your comment here ... I hit quote and reply.
Each time you come in, you'll find yourself approximately at the last post someone made when you left. So you might want to scroll up a bit if you want to see all the posts.

I get every name and spelling in the book for all my names.
It's actually good to hear that the weight gain does happen to other runners too.
Have you two always been into running or did you start relatively recently?

Machka, I have run off and on most of my adult life. I absolutely HATED it at school where I was forced to run "cross country" and I would usually get my mother to write me a note excusing me! LOL But I generally train for a specific event and then take a break and do something different for awhile, and when I feel like running again I start up again. I also bike, hike, walk, ride horses, garden, lift weights, play social tennis and work in the paddocks. Wendy3

Today I'm back at work. It was not easy getting up this morning!! I had two cups of very strong, black coffee when I arrived at work.
Since I've been off for 10 days, I've had to spend the morning regrouping, dealing with emails, taking down some Christmas decorations, etc.
I also discovered that my food drawer was more empty than I thought. I knew I was using things up before Christmas, but hadn't realised I had used up quite that much. So I had to go food shopping at lunch today.
First stop was a local fresh fruit and veg market. They have other stuff as well, but fresh fruit and veg are their specialty. I came away with bananas, pineapple, and grapes for work. Grapes are great because each grape is about 2 calories, so I can nibble on, say, 15 grapes throughout the day, and only consume about 30 calories. Given that one lolly (candy) is about 30 calories ... I'll take the grapes!
Next stop was an ordinary supermarket where I got my chicken and some things for dinner tonight.
I probably will eat slightly higher calories until about mid-January, but less than I have been over the past few weeks. With my planned exercise level, hopefully that will all work out in my favour.

I started running in 2012. I had lost 50 lbs. and convinced myself that I could run a half-marathon. So I "trained". My daughter said she would run with me. About three weeks before the race we managed to go 6 miles. The half-marathon was on the sea-wall in Galveston, TX the first week of February. Usually the weather is in the high 50s or the 60s then but that morning it was raining and 42 degrees. And added to it was a cold wind blowing off the ocean that made you cold to the marrow of your bones. Honestly if my daughter had not been there I would have just said forget it and gone home. We really were not prepared for the cold and wet but we huddled at the start line and headed off. Of course as usual you warm up but when we got out of the protected part of the run and were on the sea-wall that wind hit us and it was COLD. Being wet didn't help but it was mostly our hands that were so cold. My husband and a friend met us around mile 5 and we stole their gloves. At mile 7 we stopped and took a picture with the mile marker. These guys ran by and laughed and said we weren't at the finish line yet and we yelled back that we had never run that far before so we were going to document it before we died. lol We kept our pace and didn't try to beat anyone but I will admit that there were these three ladies that were in tutus that we tried to keep in sight. And then there was the 65 yr old woman who speed walked the whole thing. She was quite encouraging. Beat us by 20 minutes. lol I'll admit the last mile was really hard for us but we finished and had a good time.
Every year I run one half-marathon and a few shorter races, 10K's and 5K's (the 5K's are charity runs). 2017 was my first full marathon. Not sure what I'll do in 2018 but I will keep running weekly. I don't get sore at all anymore and keeping up with it will help in that department. Our racing season due to heat is from October to April. Anything after April is for really tough folks that don't mind melting. I'm into enjoyment, not pain.
The only thing I have noticed and discovered is a typical body response to running is that I have lost some flexibility. Runners use the same muscles so much (especially if you run flat surfaces all the time so I try to add hills in on a regular basis) that flexibility degrades. The way to battle this is by regularly stretching, daily stretching. I stretch twice a day and it has helped a lot.
Do I like to run? I'm not an "I love to run and get a runner's high" person. I enjoy it most when I'm running with my son or someone else that I like. My son is taking at least three months off from running after his 100 mile run. Seems his body rebelled at his treatment of it.... 29 hours of continuous moving, 75% of it running... I don't blame it. So he has an ankle that is acting cranky. He did send me a link to a 50K that he is trying to talk me into entering. I told him "NO".... but I'll admit it looks tempting. Maybe the 25K or 10K.... lol

Variety is good!
I ran quite a bit from the time I was about 12 until I was about 19. At first it was short distance racing in school (I raced the 200 and 400 metre races), but we'd do longer distance running as part of the training. Then later, I started running 2 or 3 km quite frequently ... almost every day.
Between about 19 and 23, I didn't do much in the way of exercise. I'd ride my bicycle occasionally, walk a bit, kind of dabble in weight lifting, but nothing regular.
At 23, my now-ex husband and I started going to the gym and training with a bodybuilder, and I got into bodybuilding for a couple years. My coach wanted me to do comps, but I didn't have enough self-confidence for that. At the same time, I was cycling for cardio ... and then gradually moved into cycling mostly and the bodybuilding dropped off.
And I've been cycling regularly ever since! I did get into running a couple winters in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and then occasionally after we moved to Tasmania.
I suspect I might do something like you do ... train for certain running events and then get back into cycling again. I'm hoping this 10K coming up in 2 weeks goes well. Then I might, maybe, possibly train for a half marathon later in the year. We'll see.

Hello all, been lurking the last month, but decided to post this time, last time I posted was probably June or July, went off track for a few months with my snacking so on December I went to hypnotherapy and now I'm doing three meals a day win no snacking In between which is working well for me. Finished the year with 30kg down which I was very pleased with. My word for the year is persistence, I need to continue with the healthier habits I've been working on. I keep telling myself I don't have to finish today, I just have to make progress, which helps me in my goal of decluttering etc.
