What nobody tells you about losing weight

- MAKE SURE YOU TRY ON CLOTHES BEFORE BUYING. If you’re anything like me you’ll keep picking up Large/XLs when you’re now a solid Medium.
-when you look in the mirror you’ll still see yourself as when you started
-aeroplane seats are so much more comfortable
-You won’t sweat as much
- you’ll prioritize your health (getting a full night sleep will be more important than going to Taco Bell at 12am. Or you’d rather not drink because you need to get your morning workout in etc) and these things won’t feel like a sacrifice
These resound so much with me, especially the sweat one. I completely forgot about how much I used to sweat all the time!
Also:- Ascending stairs won't get you out of breath
- You're more likely to say yes to things because it's not hard work for you
- You won't see gradual changes, but one morning you'll be astounded at one massive change you never noticed before (bones, dents, curves)
- People won't believe you when you tell them about "the before"
- You can sit anywhere without worrying it'll collapse
- You can buy the nice-looking clothes and they'll look good on you

This is a lifestyle change. You will always have to be on top of it, because it is so easy to go back to old habits.36

I second this. It is absolutely true. Last year my friend challenged me not to talk about exercise, health, or fitness for one week bc it's all I talked Ab but it's kinda my life now and what I enjoy. I have done better ab it. I can just talk to my MFP friends about it.
I still talk about it 24/7. It's who I am now. I've never been much of a hobbyist so this is a first for me, to actually be so interested in something and successful too! My talking about it got my parents involved, they started counting calories and it's all they can talk about now too lol I'm sure my boyfriend gets kind of sick of it but he's super supportive and we have long conversations about it. I don't go out much so I have nobody else to annoy lol12 -
Losing weight has really made my lips appear fuller (less face fat to be engulfed by?). Which is great because it previously looked as if I had no upper lip and I was seriously considering lip implants.17

100% agree on the feeling cold. I would long for the colder days and *kitten* wear short sleeves and shorts, now I wear multiple layers. I used to sweat eating, now the only place I sweat is in the gym lol.7

That you are more willing to dream big. I always wanted to lose weight but never managed, and that affected how I saw my own capabilities and inner strength. Now that I'm halfway to my goal and finally realizing that I will actually succeed, I am now more confident in myself and find that I am not scared to go for other goals of mine. I nailed my first interview, I graduated cum laude at university, I am enrolled for a postgraduate degree, I asked out the guy I was in love with for 9 years - (and he said yes!). Losing weight has taught me that I deserved to love myself, because I am strong, I am beautiful, I am ambitious, and that although the journey is still long, I will refuse to postpone living my life any longer, regardless of my size.72

If you didn't like who you are before losing weight, you won't automatically like who you are in the thinner version, either. Self-love is more than just a good body image - it takes work outside of the weight-loss journey as well.30

How easy it is to actually train your taste buds and enjoy healthy food
fitting into the smaller sizes - they always have nicer options!

How easily a cup of coffee will knock down my afternoon appetite. And if that doesn't completely quash it, an additional hard boiled egg will finish the job. All for less than 100 calories.21

What nobody told me about losing weight is just how much I'd start loving my body during weight loss, not for what it looks like, but for what it managed to do so far.56

Yep! A while ago I had mine adjusted as I hadn't been able to wear it for along time due to weight gain. As soon as I did that I made the decision to take action and lose the weight - lo and behold about 6 months later and about 30 lbs lighter, just a few days before my silver wedding anniversary, the ring slipped off my finger and into a running stream - gone forever. Fortunately my engagement ring stayed put. Get your rings adjusted or take them off until you hit goal - sad to lose a wedding ring (unless you want to of course )12 -

I lost mine while putting cardboard boxes into a recycling container. I should have been more aware since it came off my hand a couple of times when I was swinging my arms while I walked. I have a cheap replacement I plan on wearing until I get to my goal weight.4 -

I went out and bought a new one. I ad a gold one originally (the one almost lost). I wanted a titanium black one, so got it. But.... Now this one wants to fall off as well lol.4 -

When friends and family say they could never lose weight because they love food, hate exercise, or binge during the full moon, I get tired of listening to their excuses. I tried for awhile to be supportive if they made any hints they actually want to change but now I just bite my tongue. I think it’s because I stopped making excuses for myself that it’s harder for me to listen to someone else do it.51

OH MY GAWD DITTO.
A lot of friends are making resolutions and coming to talk to me about it, since I've actually managed to shake a couple of pounds off this year. But it's week TWO and most of them have already fallen off the wagon. I just have to keep reminding myself that it's not my circus, and these are not my monkeys, so I can't be too harsh, but BY GOLLY is it tough this week.43 -
No one told me how people feel they can touch you or comment so much on your body!
Since losing 50 pounds people have been mostly supportive but lots of friends and family touch my waist or stomach (kind of like rubbing a pregnant belly). It's so bizarre to me. I've had to tell several people not to touch me. Like, what are they feeling for?!?! And so many comments. Just stick with a generic "great work". Gah!!!24 -
- You’ll discover you actually had a set of eyes buried in a face fat.
- You won’t be dreading plane journeys for a fear of not fitting in a sit or a cabin crew LOUDLY saying there were belt extensions available.
- You will notice a weight loss in random places like feet.
- You will feel comfortable eating out at a public place rather than people looking at you because you’re fat and dare to eat.22 -

YES THIS SO MUCH! I haven’t even lost that much but still, I notice people around me making up excuses and “having a tough day”
Well guess what. Binging on food will not make your day any better. It will not make you feel better.
If you really want to lose the weight you can and you will make it happen. If you’re happy feeling miserable about your weight and appearance, fine, but keep it to yourself.
I’m trying to be very body positive while losing weight. I loved myself at my biggest but I felt my health was suffering. I no longer feel good with being obese, I just want to go shopping in actual stores with my size instead of searching.
Being fat is hard. Losing weight is hard. Pick one27 -

Another Yes! From me! If I could do it, anyone can. I used to try to tell them that but I've stopped. It's excuse after excuse. I have a neighbor that started her journey not long after I did. She's not losing. I was trying to help her out and talk through her plan. All the while she's chugging soda and eating cookies. I told her that might be part of the issue and explained how she could still fit those in with calorie counting (maybe just less of them). She wasn't hearing it. She's rather complain.20 -

Honestly, just how Mich more comfortable you become. When you can walk knowing you won't have thigh chafe pain, when on a hot day the sweat doesn't pool between your underwire and the little roll of fat smooshed against it, when your stomach doesn't block your own ability to breathe during some yoga poses, when you're less clumsy because the exercise has assisted with your coordination, when being bloated doesn't hurt an already strained waist band...God, I could go on!36

My husband- he's overweight, he goes to the gym and lifts weights his arms, back and legs are getting buff, but he still has the gut because he eats like he don't care! He knows I'm doing MFP, he sees the weight coming off of me, he sees how I watch what I eat, but then he has the nerve to get on my case because I'm not exercising like I used to. Like dude, look at me and look at you! Like you have any right to talk! I think his idea of fitness and mine are two different stories. It's infuriating at times, but he does make me laugh.18 -

Try joking and saying something like "oh rub my butt and a genie will pop out". It's a funny way of letting them know to back off. Or you could make them feel uncomfortable and start moaning. lol Hopefully they take the hint.

No one told me that so many unresolved emotional problems would come up during and after the weight loss process. I don't have the desire to "eat away my problems" anymore, so I'm stuck with healthy diet/exercise habits and a nice superficial appearance, yet I am emotionally miserable. It's certainly not the pot o' gold I was expecting at the end of the rainbow...28
