It was a salad also - 3 different lettuces, chopped veggies, kidney beans, chickpeas, feta cheese and catalina dressing. About 1k because I just heaped it all on. Holy crap.7

Calories in drinks still floor me sometimes. Be it coffee creamer, beer, or some other beverage, the calories for what you get are just shocking. Hence my love of white wine lately - something I enjoy that doesn't completely destroy my available "food" calories that day!23

I can't believe the calories in salads either! I used to think salads were always a healthy alternative, but that just isn't the case. Most of the time it seems lower calorie to just order the cheeseburger!26

Salads aren't bad its generally what you put on it or in it that will jack up the calories. I can have a cup and half of salad mix up my own dressing (olive oil and Apple cider vinegar) and keep it under 200 cals.
The one thing that got me was a subway chicken sub. When I first started the weight loss journey I thought a foot long chicken with veggies and some mustard wouldn't be bad. Found out it was over 1000 cals..... no more subway for this guy, except if I can fit it in and only a 6 inch one.23 -
Literally everything on Cheese cake factories menu HAHA73

Sushi surprises me every single time. I should know by now but traditional rolls always have so many cals and carbs in them... the tempura special rolls... don't even get me started on those haha.21

I'm pretty sure the tea, black coffee, or the diamonds from the advertisement on page 3 are all 0 calories. Their menu has advertisements because it legit comes in a binder.

Sundried tomatoes. And I love them. Also, raisin toast... two slices with butter is 500 cal.15

Pasta, nuts, cheese...sigh19

It's not the salad...it's drowning it in dressing. Also, "healthy" and calories are two different things. There are many amazing, healthful foods that are also calorie dense...there are also any number of foods that provide very little actual nutrition that aren't...
calories and healthy are two different things.46 -
Cereal, I stopped eating it because what a "serving " actually was, not worth the calories.86

A while back I snacked on a box of cereal. Ate the whole box. Wasn't hard. Afterwards I looked at the calorie cost and I was floored. I could have had an entire half gallon of ice cream instead.32

Pretty much everything, at first lol. Especially food you order at a restaurant. Everyone knows that fast food like big macs and whoppers are high-calorie, but if you eat out at all it's so easy to hit 1000 calories in one meal! Where I live a lot of chain restaurants list the calories of a meal, and unless it's specifically in the "light" section of the menu, almost every dish has easily 700+ calories. Share an appetizer or have a couple drinks and that can be your whole day's calories right there haha.19

Flour. What an *kitten*.
Heavy cream - I mean yeah right duh but a cup has A THOUSAND freakin calories. That soup I'm making is cream of no thank you.54 -
Definitely dressings. I got the Chipotle salad and it all was fine until I looked up the dressing. So much oil! Also Starbucks. I usually only get a cappuccino or flat white but that is still 150+ calories. I just drink plain coffee now with a bit of milk.10

Was going out to lunch today, so I thought I would be good and preplan. I looked up all the local chains, Ruby Tuesdays, TGIF, Longhorn Steak House, Applebees.... I knew I wouldn't get what I might order in the past, without looking at the nutrition content, but seriously, I found it difficult to find anything under 800 calories! That is more than half my calories for the day! (unfortunately, the gym was not going to fit in today) I started thinking, how many of us would go in, eat a meal for 1200 calories, and that would be without a cocktail, and then eat two more meals! No wonder so many of us are in this MFP boat together.63

Beverages of all sorts! Even just a glass of iced tea! I only drink water now.16

Definitely. I've had this realization and it still floors me.13 -
Yep, salad dressings are evil in disguise. Make your own or use just enough to get the lettuce wet. No cheese, no croutons, but ok to add turkey or other proteins.
Cereal (carbs) can be treacherous. Be careful and watchful. I usually eat scrambled eggs for breakfast, toss in a bit of feta and a couple of handfuls of spinach.
Be careful eating out. If you are losing, order and get a to go box, put 1/2 of your meal in it and eat the rest.
Walk, walk, walk. I know, sounds trite, but it works.28
