Unplanned rest day yesterday due to a hectic work schedule. Took a day off from working on the old house today and took advantage of the beautiful weather to go for a long run. Not sure why, but decided I'd try 10 miles and was planning two hours to get through it. Apparently, today was an extraordinarily good day. Ran the whole 10 with zero breaks (left the dog at home) and finished in just under 1hr 38min...or 9:47 per mile. Pretty sure that's my fastest ten miles ever, and my heart rate was mostly in zone 1 or 2. Only got into zone 4 on the super steep hills, and only very briefly. I'll take it!
Was super tempted to keep going and do a half marathon today, but made myself stop. Ten miles is already 2 miles more than any of my recent runs. No sense in going too far too soon and risking injury.

They can grow bone. I have a dental implant and they took cadaver bone mixed with my blood and packed it in for a lift, creating more depth for the anchor screw, voila- my bone. The same procedure is done with a spinal fusion, in addition to the hardware. The hardware becomes obsolete once the fusion takes, but is rarely retrieved. Just kinda not worth another procedure.

Finally getting a chance to post. Ran outdoors on January 22 for 4 miles. It felt great...so much easier than on a treadmill. I have to admit that it was unseasonably warm that day...in the 50's. My ankle felt the same afterward. I have a stretch of days off from work...so going to try to get an x-ray of my ankle then. I have a race planned for May 5th (half marathon)...so hoping to be able to build up my miles quickly.
I am still wearing Rebok Hi-tops to work, but am going to switch to regular cross trainers to work tomorrow. January 17th for 3.64 miles.
Sam's warehouse near my job closed....so sad. I don't understand it...it was always busy and it was where I purchase my fresh vegetables and fruit in bulk. Also gas was about 30 cents cheaper per gallon. It was also good exercise to walk the warehouse. Oh well. I'll probably shop at Fresh Thyme.
Work is still crazy, but not seeing as many flu patients as a couple of weeks ago. I think that the worse is not over yet. I heard that in some smaller hospitals, patients are waiting long hours to get a hospital bed.
Next week I should get a couple of good runs in on Tuesday and Wednesday to finish the month at 15-18 miles.

The two coolest things were the owls and the view of the ice-covered reservoir with the dim glow of the sunset and the city lights on the horizon. There is one loop of the course where you are basically surrounded on all sides with water. It was awesome.
It looks like a lot of fun. I think that there is a half in the summer at Eagle Creek. I thought about running it because I am nocturnal anyway. I wonder if it is the same course.
Have you run the Geist Half? I think that it is in May. It is a beautiful course around the reservoir.3 -

The store didn't have the same kind of running gloves, so I went hunting online. The closest thing I could find was a bit pricey on Amazon, but I found a pair reasonably priced on ebay. That should get here next week, and meanwhile I'll just wear other gloves. I don't have as many gloves as shoes, but it's not a total disaster if I lose one pair.
I like the look (hole, excepted ) and since I recently lost a pair i'm in the market..
What gloves did your ruin and what replacement ones did you get?

From what I read, the stores they closed were in locations where there were other warehouses close by. Sucks though. :-(0 -
I hit my January goal today, 30 miles with 2 runs left. Is anyone else having trouble with Strava today? My run has synced and shows up in the feed, it shows up on the weekly miles and it's added the miles to my trainers. However it's missing from my year to date miles and my total runs this year. I was so happy to hit 30 miles but it's a bit disheartening that the total has stayed at 26.

My biological sister recently had a mild stroke at 41. I wish she would take it more seriously and start running or something. She made some changes but not enough.

There was a story on RW last week about a woman who survived cancer (I think). And at the age of 60 picked up running because her health became top priority.
She entered her first full tri with little training outside running, and won 1st in her ag. Probably not hard at her age, but went on to train another 19 months and came in top 3 in her next two that were more competitive. She looks awesome. I wanna be her. Although, I'd like to not wait another 13 years to get this show back on the trail.

Completed my 1st 10k and improved my time by 16 minutes. I might just make my goal if i go out later today for a short run to cut down on how many i have left

@Teresa502 Fortunately only the neighbourhood roads were icky. Once I got out of my subdivision driving was okay. And I heard the plows out last night so our street should be good now (there is a bus stop right in front of my house).4

I woke up yesterday to a pool of water on the basement floor. I was hoping it was the humidifier drain line so I shut it off and vacuumed up the water. The water kept pooling. hmmm....Now I think it's probably a leaking water heater.
I have 7.5 miles to run today. I'm trying to decide if I should run first or play plumber first. I installed our current water heater and if I can find one the same dimensions it should go pretty easy, but still take 4 or 5 hours including shopping and cleanup.
Last night I did get 4 miles in with Kody. The roads were really clean so I made it a tempo run after the first mile.

So, I got curious about HM training today and stumbled across a 12-week schedule that starts with 2-mile easy runs and a 4-mile long run in Week 1 and would line up perfectly with a 5K and a 10K that I already had on my race list for this year. So now I'm wondering... Can I really do it? Could I really get myself HM ready so soon? Am I nuts? Ok, don't answer that last one, but... I do need a reality check. I just started running 5Ks nonstop last week. Can I really do this?7

You can always start it and see how it goes. I usually to throw in a few extra weeks because I'm slow to build milage. But if you can get 9-10 miles as your long run, you can do the HM.
ETA. My longest run was 9 slow miles broken up with a 20 min break at 4-5 miles. I train by doing a walk/run er run/walk haha! And I managed the half in 2:35. I had to walk the last 2-3 miles because my hip flexors were trashed and my thighs chaffed bloody, but I did it. I earned that shirt and finishers medal.
You'll find the folks that so half's aren't much different than the 5/10k crowd. I imagined they all we're elite-like.4 -

Luckily our water heater is in the garage. Just last week we had to replace the over pressure valve that leaked.

Let me let you in on a secret... long distance running is more mental than physical. If you believe you can, that is 90% of the battle. If you do not believe, then do not even start.
Run the plan, and believe you can do it. Sure you might not do a 1/2 marathon in 63 minutes, might take you 3 or 4 hours, but that does not matter. You might also take more than 12 weeks, which is also fine. Train at your pace, and believe in yourself. That is really the big key to this.7 -

I think the summer one at Eagle Creek is on the same course (though I haven't run it before). I did run Geist a few years ago when I first got back to running a few years after my son was born. Neat course, though I am almost exclusively running trail races now. My son is actually going to go to a youth running clinic put on by the Geist Half people next weekend. I am curious to see what they will do with the kids (never been to something like that before).Yesterday I had a great run. I ran a bit later than I usually do. I had to help my daughter set up her ‘wax museum table’. She dressed up as a continental soldier and was Deborah Sampson. As people visited the ‘wax museum’ (school library) she had to recite her book report on Deborah Sampson. Ahhh 3rd grade...

@PastorVincent I too am a glider and the scrapes on my knees attest to the fact that maybe I need to pick up my feet more often on the trails

This weekend I was planning on doing my 16 mi long run by running a loop of the 50K course that I am planning to race in March, but on Friday night my hamstring was acting up so I decided that lots of hills probably wasn't the best idea for the long run this week. Scaled back and decided to do the 16 mi yesterday afternoon on the flat bike trails around town but forgot that my current road shoes are a tad small (anyone else hate that different styles of the same brand fit differently?), and now my third toe on my right foot is now in the process of turning black. Good pace though (9:22/mile for 16 miles). Scale back seemed a good call as my hamstring really hurt Sat night, but I rolled and iced and stretched really well, took some ibruprofen and rolled again in the morning and felt OK. This morning went out for 8 miles on the trails and gold course and once I got warmed up, I actually felt strong! Managed a 10 min/mile pace and after stretching and rolling I feel good! Also finally got to my mileage goal for the month today!

So officially signed up for my spring race with my husband- Marine Corps Historic Half. It’ll be my second time running it. First time was my first half-marathon ever, so it holds a special place in my heart. It’ll be the first half me and my husband do together so that’s cool. Hoping to shave about 5 minutes off my last half time. Starting Hal H’s Intermediate 2 in about a month.8 -
@Orphia Such a beautiful scenery at our parkrun! And I admire you for going there so regularly. We have a parkrun in the area now too (25min away by car), but the combination of getting up early on a Saturday, in addition to spending more time in the car than running, means I only went twice. I was thinking maybe in summer I could go by bike. But then it will take me 50min, so I would have to get up even earlier. I guess there is a reason I do so few races...
@katharmonic The longest I ever drove to a race was 1 hour. That's why I consider myself lucky if I can find a handful of races per year in my area. I just don't like spending more time in the car then I will be running. But maybe I need to change my view on that, if I finally want to get a few nice medals

@JessicaMcB Yikes! You know, I cut my bike ride short today because I forgot my neoprene overshoes at home and at 3°C, my toes were freezing. And then you post a picture like this and I feel like a wimp

Nice long run (17.4km) yesterday. I've slightly mixed up my training plan - last weekend should have been 17.5km, and this weekend 11km at half-marathon pace. Since I raced a 10km last weekend instead, I decided to do a longer run at easy pace this weekend instead.
I'm still behind on my monthly goal, I missed a run earlier this week. I thought about trying to catch up today, rather then taking Sunday as a rest day, but in the end I "compromised" and went cycling instead. Running rest day, but I got some fresh air
And I decided to make good on some of my new year's resolutions and signed up for the "FB Reach" program on fitnessblender, to do some stretching and core-work on a regular basis. It's supposed to be a 4-week-program with 5-6 workouts per week. But since I want to do it in addition to running, my 15 min "quick strength for runners" workouts twice per week and climbing 1-2 per week (plus occasionally some cycling or indoor rowing), I don't really expect to finish it in 4 weeks. If I do 2-3 workouts per week and finish in 10 weeks, that also fine. Twice per week should still be better than nothing!

Addictions, OCD, depression, anxiety, illness, eating disorders, abuse, and so on... the more immersed in the running community I’ve become, I swear half of us are Forest Gump running away from inner turmoil.12 -

This morning I took the dog for a walk and it was so slippery in spots on the streets, I nearly fell a few times, and parts of the trail were just ice. I was glad to finally get to the sunnier trails that were clear. But this afternoon it was much warmer and I went for a nice run on clear roads and sidewalks, which was a nice change. I'm pretending for now that this is spring, so don't try to ruin it for me by reminding me it's still January.
