Success/struggles of the week: I'm not gonna lie, I have NOT been doing a good job of keeping my eating in check. I seem to track well all day, and then I hit 8 pm, and I want to eat all the things. And I do! It's terrible. I've seen my weight slowly creep up over the last month or so.
On a good note, I had a biometric screening for my health insurance this week (height, weight, bmi, cholesterol, blood sugar, etc), and all my numbers were stellar! That's what a year and a half of eating well and exercising will do for you. So I realized that I had started this journey for health reasons, and that's the mindset I need to get back to. Yes, I love wearing size 6 and rocking my skinny jeans, but being healthy and feeling great is my number one goal.
To that end, I'm going to eat more of a plant-based diet. I can't say that I will never eat meat again, but I want to see what this kind of diet can do for my overall health.
I'm also missing my hubby very much as Valentine's Day approaches (he's working up in Boston right now; I'm in NJ). Everywhere I go, I see couples having fun, out for dinner and drinks, etc. It's hard. I volunteered to work on Wednesday night just to keep busy.
Well, that's about all for now. Have a great weekend, everyone!9 -

Success/struggles of the week/month: Another challenging week. I can't seem to get my eating and logging under control. My moving avg the past few weeks and month is climbing. The FLU thing really took me for a loop and although I am gradually recovering the binging in the evening needs to stop. The temptation of course is to restrict but I know that will just lead to more eating. Feb has typically been a rotten month for me diet and SAD wise. Glad it's a short month. I am hoping holding myself accountable weeklu with this group will help me from just slipping completely off the edge of the mountain again.
I'm finding this winter to be especially tough, too! Same problem with binging at night. The flu is terrible; you really need to give yourself lots of time for recovery. It can be several weeks until you really feel better. Being here (and being honest) is the best thing - everyone here is so helpful and supportive. Sending positive vibes your way...5 -

Success/struggles of the week/month: 3 weeks post flu and finally feeling normal. wow. Hugs to all going thru it. I can't believe how long the effects lingered and how sick I was. Success - ran a personal best this morning 7 miles and best part was that all my splits improved throughout the run. I had not made it that far before as something always started bothering me to the point where I didn't want to continue and risk injury. Happy to report that except for a minor blister nothing fell off. Would like to see the avg weight come down another pound but the nice thing about being in maintenance is that you really don't have to cut a lot and you can enjoy life while just sort of drifting a little lighter. Think SPRING everyone. longer warmer days and more activity!10 -

Success/struggles of the week: I’ve decided to stop calorie counting for a while and see if I can maintain via mindful eating. So far it’s not working out too well - scale is showing up, up, up since the New Year. But I’m going to be patient, forgive myself for some errors along the way and see where I take this different approach over time.
New goal is to make a decision on whether I can successfully stop counting calories by my birthday in May. As a result, I’ve increased the range of my acceptable weight to give me room to learn. All tips and tricks for making the transition are appreciated.

Hi all hope you don’t me joining. I’ve been on MFP for years but only really lurked the forums until recently. Been maintaining a while and think this is a great place to keep a focus!

Success/struggles of the week: Managed to maintain home workout schedule even though work stuff meant I couldn’t get to any of my usual evening hot yoga classes. More than 15000 steps every day rushing around has helped too.
Struggles: Weekends! Always struggle Friday nights as it’s weigh day, I’ve hit my goal and made it through the work week and I have a bit of an end of the week “f-it!” mentality! Counterproductive because i can’t hit the same activity levels Saturday and Sunday so a Friday blowout isn’t easily worked off! But I need to try and be a bit more balanced rather than all or nothing. View the week as a whole, calmly, and relax. Hoping this thread may give me some perspective.15 -

Success/struggles: Exactly the same as last week, which kind of makes sense since I’ve worked out more but have also had a lot of invitations to eat out this week- so balanced out. Next week I’d like to not drink as much (Valentine’s Day exception) and continue my workouts. We’ll see what next weigh-in brings! HAVE A GOOD SUNDAY, everyone!!

- NSV: I had bought a tray of Mr. Kipling's apple pie, just over a month ago. And Rather than eating the whole in one sitting (which I would love to do) I decided to freze it. I took one out as and when I fancied it and only just finished the last pie this week.
- I've been joining in challenges on Fitbit. I'm finding it motivating to keep moving even though the weather is trying so hard to put me off.
- I've been craving sweet foods so bad and have eaten a lot of it. However, I've managed to keep to my daily calorie allowance.
Kids are on half term holiday. Getting in the steps is going to be tough.

Hi guys...
I just wanted to sort of admit that I've been secretly spying on you guys.
You see, I am not in maintenance yet, yet being the key word here right
I have lot 63 pounds so far and I have another 22 ish to go before I can embark on the maintenance journey.
Reading your stats and posts is quite inspiring to me and I just wanted to thank you.
I am dedicated to making this weightloss journey the one that finally gets me to a maintenance journey.
And I'll cross that bridge when I get to it as we all know, one thing at a time.
So til then ladies (and gents if there are some in this group), keep on being awesome.
See you soon, well not soon but see you at some point !

Success/struggles of the week:
I have been building my yoga practice since December. I have dabbled in yoga and meditation over the years. I have built a solid practice of coming home from work, putting on my yoga clothes and practicing for 45 minutes to an hour, followed by 15 - 20 minutes of meditation. I also enjoy power walking, but the treadmill doesn't do it for me. I am looking forward to having daylight when I get home to get some walking in.
Biggest struggle is eating enough fiber on a gluten free diet. I have been gluten free for several months and I feel so much better. Arthritis pain is decreased as well as IBS symptoms. But I need to replace gluten with more vegetables for fiber, instead of eating gluten free substitutes for my favorite breads, pretzels, etc.
Note: My new profile picture is from last weekend. I did my first ever Polar Bear Plunge for the Special Olympics at 59 years old! This is something I would never have considered before with my arthritis pain, etc. It was 47 degrees F and water temperature was 37. It was exhilarating and exciting...and YES, I am doing it again next year!!!!!15 -

WW seems to be working, so far. I'll stay attentive. I had a stomach bug on Monday and Tuesday, and didn't eat much, at all especially on Monday so it's hard to totally gage, how that would be otherwise. I'm not getting much exercise other than steps. I realise my phone counts steps. I got 50,000 steps this week including one day bed-bound. That's not record-breaking, but is better than last week.
My sister who has serious health issues is much better today than yesterday. Relieved about that.
Blood tests seem to indicate I'm pre-diabetic. Bummer. Dad and 1 sibling on insulin in late life (type 2) and mom was pre-diabetic too. and another sister said she just found out she is too. though we all have a sweet tooth. It looks like with exercise and paying attention to food one can often avoid needing treatment. another thing to pay closer attention to : carbs and "exchanges". What's surprising is that, in terms of diabetes, some foods that are more fatty have less carbs: i.e.. full fat milk has less carbs than skim milk. ice cream has less carbs than sorbet. I will no longer be able to eat fruit at will. I could easily have, say 2 small apples and a banana in a day.
I've been pretty tired, so if changing my diet helps give more energy that is worth it.
Some good work things this week, and some work challenges.6 -

@sofchak You can do the no logging thing! You have been here long enough to know your foods and your body. I quit logging in June and my weight is staying within a pound of where I was then.
@Gutcutter500 Good luck on the C25K. I know you can do it. You have snuck in a couple of runs here and there. You will be running circles around your daughter.3 -
You’re awesome, @mk2fit! I want to be able to say that one day - that I’ve learned how to intuitively maintain. I am about 1.5 weeks into no calorie counting now and starting to see the scale remain stable - 125lbs every day for last 5 days. I was 124.8lbs this morning. Crossing my fingers!5

Successes/struggles of the week: Sick all week, pretty much no exercising. Abed all day on Wed and Thursday. My actual weekly calories in were only 8667 that is ~1240 a day but weight steady (actually up on scale but with so few calories this week I figure the reality has to be steady not gain).
Very depressed, disappointed and upset over the tiny calorie reality of maintenance- I just don’t see myself eating like this much longer. Was hoping to stop the unpleasantness of low calories of diet by going to maintenance early at the very top of what I thought was acceptable range ( just above normal BMI) but I don’t think this (~9500 calories weekly with my normal activity level) is sustainable. Not sure what to do. Already doing 5:2 but that is only making it suck a little less.

@ryenday , so sorry to see that you're struggling. Maybe try something different, change your macros a little to see if it helps? Also, do you like veggies? I eat a lot of them for volume, and i have plenty room left for other foods because veggies are filling, low calorie and full of fiber, vitamins and minerals. Good luck!6

Successes/struggles of the week: At the risk of repeating myself, I have to say again how much I love this group, including the people who pop in every so often to say they're looking forward to joining in when they themselves reach maintenance. There's just nothing like hearing one another's stories. Fidan, thank you again!
I appear to be the exact same weight as last week, despite working hard to move further down in my maintenance range. But I know the scale will give me my just reward, and Trendweight is encouraging me to "dream big"!
I too have my vulnerable body parts. What I'm most concerned with is my Achilles' tendon - at its worst it feels like a big dog has bounded over and fastened his jaws on the back of my heel. About 6 years ago I visited a chiropractor many times over a period of 6 or 8 months for a series of treatments: acupuncture, ultrasound, etc. Anyway, I have been feeling the dog's teeth grazing the backs of my heels lately and certainly want to avoid all the time and money that treatment would suck up. Trying to remember to stretch my calf muscles more frequently and that seems to be helping.
Despite my "prevent injury at all costs" mentality, I tried something really dazzling lately. I tried RUNNING!! When I say 'running', I just refer to a slow jog. Over the years, I have so admired people who actually have the lung capacity to jog along minute after minute afte minute. Anyway, I tried a slow jog on a forgiving indoor surface, expected to be stopping and gasping for breath after several minutes, but instead found myself more than able handle it, and doing a 30 minute jog. Who knew!!!!!
WISHING Y'ALL A FINE WEEK!

Challenges: UGH! I guess the good news is that I'm glad that I read the advise about weighing every day. wow, 1.3 lbs in just one day??? i only went a little over the 1200 cals because of having people over for dinner that they brought - I had saved a reasonable amount of calories. oy. Just. keep. going... Being accountable definitely helps keep the "give up" demons away. Onward...6 -
@cypressfey A gain in a single day means nothing. Water retention and food babies can account for a spike.
Are you maintaining on 1200 cals a day? Or do you mean you had 1200 cals for that special supper?1 -
I’m not in Maintenance YET, but I certainly am working on it. Hearing the maintenance process is inspiring even to those of us just starting. I look forward to my maintanence post. However, for now you all just keep doing what you’re doing. Remember, no one is perfect we’re all just working to be the best ‘us’ that we can be, but that really starts inside. If you’ve lost the weight and you’re still unhappy, the answer isn’t losing more weight, it’s checking inside yourself.
Best of Luck6 -
@Rachelmilloy Surprise! Running is a sneaky delight.
