Type 2 diabetic, diagnosed in Nov. 2016 with an A1C of 8%. Yesterday my A1C was 5.4% and my doc dropped one of my meds. That felt amazing!41

You know that 'Basics' series at H&M? For the past 3 years I've been living in those, always in the largest size available (with a little sigh of relief every time I'd see that a particular piece in the series was also produced in an XL instead of stopping at L), and always only the stretchy or intentionally oversized pieces in the series. As recent as 9 months ago that was still the case.
I guess I hadn't been paying attention since the leggings from that series I mostly just wear around the house but this week I pulled on a pair and there was loose fabric gathering all over the place. I went back to H&M today to get a replacement pair and I'm into the smalls! I skipped the mediums! To be fair, the smalls are a bit snug even as far as leggings go, but they're close enough that I know if I were to have bought the mediums I'd size out of them again soon enough. I also got a (non-stretchy) cotton dress from the series in a small (not a fitted cut though)!
As a form of caveat, let me take this opportunity to criticise vanity sizing because it's pretty unreasonable that someone who is still 5 pounds above the top of the 'normal' range on the BMI chart should be able to call themselves a 'small' (yes of course there is variation by brand). When I was at university 20 years ago I was 20 pounds lighter than my current weight, and I wore a medium back then.22 -
I have moved onto the first hole on my belt.... from the 4th hole. I’ll have to get a new belt soon I imagine.16

Today at my annual physical, Dr. B was very happy about my progress, and even congratulated me!18

Minor NSV, but I'm really proud of myself. I'm trying to stay within my calories today and eat light for breakfast and lunch because I'm going out for dinner (just fast food, but it's still out for us) and I want to save my calories for then.
I had a couple cups of leftover stuffing for breakfast, about 400 calories (I get 1800 a day). I got the hunger pains about ten, normally I'd get up and fix lunch then and then have a long time to wait until dinner.
I decided I was going to stay hungry and wait until noon to fix lunch. I just realized I wasn't hungry anymore, looked at the time and it's 11:43!
Now, I'm on Topamax to suppress my appetite and amphetamine (legal!) for my ADHD, which helps, but still. I decided I wasn't going to eat, and stuck with that decision - that's all me, not the medications!22 -

My doc calls me "low hanging fruit", which she explained is docspeak for a patient who makes good health choices, not excuses. One days when my journey stalls, I think of that and smile.18 -
I was finally able to do my 30 pull-ups in three sets of ten, instead of having to break it down into more sets, less reps.28

I have been trying on wedding dresses and not only do I fit in all the sample gowns - most are too big. Only 2 out of twenty were too small and even then they would still zip up. Goodbye worrying about needing to find a shawl to match my gown at my wedding - hello strapless!31

Went to the gym by myself (which is a NSV in itself) just to walk on the treadmill for an hour or so. But instead I walked on the treadmill for 30 mins and then switched to strength training because the cardio got so boring XD23

Hubs and I both skipped breakfast to save calories for lunch out. When we got to the restaurant, we saw a plate of nachos being delivered to another patron. It looked awesome, but the portion was huge. We could have each fit the whole portion into our calorie goals, but it was more than we wanted. So we split one! That’s not our usual M.O., so I’m really pleased!30

That I just completed my very first 30 minute circuit training, and that I'm still alive!!!! That was a workout for this old Grammy19

Oh, once I looked up the acronym, I loved this thread! Very smart to remind oneself of all the other ways life is also improving.
Almost two weeks in to my new eating plan, I'm noticing that sugar-crashy hunger/hanger/weakness feelings are no longer happening when I am hungry. Being hungry is not an ordeal, but a semi-enjoyable state, because I know it means I'm succeeding at my goals.
My rosacea-tinted complexion has improved noticeably. My most forgiving jeans (which were unable to forgive any more) now fit comfortably. I find myself excited to track my calories, motivated to increase my exercise, and surprised at how easy many of the changes I have made to my diet are.
And I am feeling hopeful, empowered, and more in control!
This is a great thread. everyone's happy stories!

I knew I wanted to indulge in pizza and things yesterday, so I ate fewer calories the day before to allow for it. Then today, rather than falling off the wagon like I used to when I would "cheat", I just kept going with my logging. It really feels different this time. Oh! And today I bought some workout bottoms. I used to shop for bulky sweaters.18

My favorite short sleeved casual dress has gone from slightly too small to slightly too big! A skirt I've been looking forward to wearing again is way too big, and a suit I forgot I had fits but looks wierd. Into the donate pile they go.
I am bummed about the dress. I really liked the cut. It's not worth getting tailored. My BFF is getting it instead.
And! I found a pair of size 20 dress pants. I tried them on and they fit perfectly. I'm in 22 jeans right now, and haven't worn a 20 since 2009-2010 before being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and gaining a ton of weight.
Lastly, this is a bit TMI, but not gross. I haven't really shaved my legs much (unless I wear a short dress or something) since I had knee surgery four years ago. It was too hard to squat down onto the edge of the tub, and I bent the leg of my shower seat I used. When I did shave I used a wet rag, shaving cream, and did it on my bed. Messy and awkward. So I didn't bother often. No one saw it but my husband and he didn't care.
Anyway, today I was able to sit on the edge of the tub and shave! I forgot how tricky shaving in the tub is and how tricky ankle bones are. No nicks, but only because I was super careful. I am so excited to be able to feel girly again. I can't wait until another 60 is shed to make seeing what I'm doing easier.40 -
I am down 4.5 inches in the past three weeks, thanks to my new daily exercise regime! And, truthfully, it has not been that hard. Instead of trying for 30 mins a day of exercise, I have upped my efforts to 60 mins and am succeeding! My pants fit better and some are even feeling loose! I have tracked for 45 days straight and again, not a big time commitment for this. I feel more in control of my weight loss efforts and like my hard work is actually paying off. One day at a time.31

An old favorite t-shirt I outgrew but kept is now too large. I overshot my landing.26

Once you hit that point where you realize that you dont have to be perfect, just consistent to see progress is when you realize you are on a completely different road that you are never going back on.
Congrats to you16 -
I lost 5 pounds more than my goal weight. In two months I gained up to where I want to be. Now wearing size 6 jeans (skinny style) instead of size 12/14 (straight leg). Feeling great!29

2 years ago I bought a really nice button-up, but could never wear it because it was too small (I could get it on, but when I'd sit, the buttons would straight around the stomach).
I recently tried it on, and discovered it still doesn't fit—because it's too big. I've lost too much weight, and missed my window to wear it. Frustrating, but worth it.20 -

Remember, it's not all about the numbers on the scale. Chances are, you're losing fat but gaining muscle, which is never a bad thing.

New NSV building off the previous one. I shrank out of my bras a while back and have been wearing ONLY sports bras for maybe 5 months now. I also didn't notice that those have gotten too big. I think it's because the type of fabric and thickness that they are they still feel like they're hugging my body (I also have only been doing low-impact exercises so I haven't especially put them to the test). However, upon realising I had begun having to buy smaller sizes in every type of clothing EXCEPT bras I went and tried on new ones. Immediately upon putting on the smaller size, though, I facepalmed about why it had been seeming like my 'girls' had been sitting so very low on my torso lately and making me feel old.
By the way, I forgot in the quoted post to share the most symbolically important part of the shift from H&M Basics L/XL to smalls: an incident that happened at an H&M contributed to my decision to get serious about taking control of my weight/body shape. I swear I'm not sponsored by H&M ...
Among the many small things accumulating over the last year or so that all came to a head last May and drove me to MFP was a moment when I was trying on some of those large sizes (all in black, thanks!) in the dressing room and a staff person accidentally pulled back my curtain for a moment to let another customer use it. Nobody said anything bad or anything like that, and the staffer certainly re-closed the curtain just as quickly as he possibly could, but it was one of those things where it had been very easy to be in denial about how almost disfiguringly heavy I'd gotten (e.g., the top of my butt had taken on that shelf-like shape if you know what I mean? and my backside was very much facing the curtain at that moment, highlighted by turquoise underwear!) when I was also able to pretend that nobody could truly see me. Not in the sense that I wanted to be invisible but I thought I was kind of controlling the illusion or something. I was very much NOT in control of what the staffer and customer glimpsed in that half second, and it was just kind of a 'click' moment. 'I am seen. The jig is up.'17 -
Another clothing NSV. I found a cute pair of pink capri jeggings at Walmart today, and picked up a 20-22, and a pink 3x tee and a grey 3x tee. I didn't try them on, just bought them. I worried that they wouldn't fit the whole way home because while I'm wearing a 22 jeans, these are 20-22 pants, so a little smaller than my jeans probably. And my 4x shirts from Walmart still look really good on me.
I tried them on when I got home. The pants fit perfectly, not stretching a bit that I can tell. The legs are even loose on me, but I expected that. I have always had really slim legs.
The shirts fit perfectly too! I look so skinny! I did a happy dance in my bedroom!
I need to get another pair of capris for this summer that isn't pink, since the 26s I bought last year fall down too easily. What a problem to have.25 -
I had reached my arbitrarily-chosen maintenance range last August, and proceeded to pretend that I was trying to find my maintenance level of calories. What I really did was just reverted to a lifetime of obesity eating habits. I caught myself in time to just barely avoid having to purchase larger clothes. I had one, only one, pair of 34x32 denim jeans to wear, and for a couple of months now I've been wearing that pair 6 days a week. I finally, after months of weekend failure, managed to stay within my calorie budget for a single weekend last week. Today, having reached a scale weight lower than any I've had in the past 60 days, I tried on a pair of 32x32 denim jeans. They're tight, but they're zipped, so that's my NSV. I get to wear clean jeans twice a week now.43
