I always leave several hours early, I usually try to park, check in, then walk through the expo before my run, give me a chance to "calm down" after fighting that hour's worth of traffic. That's when I realized my stupid mistake: I totally have been in the "Florida summer" mindset (since basically, that's how it has been), and making sure my runs have all been done early. I haven't been training in the heat. Great! Added to that - of all the days to forget sunscreen!
Due to the heat and multitude of walkers, strollers, and precious little children, there were several walks. About half way though, I did roll my ankle due to uneven pavement, and almost stopped on the side for a few, but I recalled the encouragement y'all gave another a while back when she did the same..so to just walked, ok, limped it off till it went away. After the turn around (yes, where the Rough Riders were passing out donuts...) cruising along...and my mother decided to call! WOW! So now, I have to slow to make sure all the apps are still running, turn the music back on...carry on. Between mile 2 & 3, I slowed to a walk, and a gentleman came up to me & said "Oh no! You can't slow down now! You've been my pacer for the past half mile!" Funny, I was using someone else!
So, when it all came down to the end: I accomplished my goal! Even with all the "walk breaks", I did it in 44:52, pace 14:03. Secretly I was kinda hoping to beat my 39:43, but I feel good about beating last year (45:44,14:42) The "struggle" part, I honestly think, it was heat and "slalom" related. If it was done earlier in the morning I'm sure I would have been able to run longer. And I'm kinda curious...I know it SAYS 3.1 miles, but with all the weaving in & out, just how far DO we really run?

Had a wonderful long run today. It was the kind of day that you just wanted to be outside and run and run. The weather was perfectly cool and lovely and the sun was shining and sparkling on the water! I met a friend about 3 miles in and stopped to talk for a bit and then got the rest of the run in. Hobbes and I did take a break around mile 8 just to admire the lovely day before heading home for the last mile.
I made my conservative goal for the month yesterday and this was the biggest running week I have had in a while.
Also I tried out the Skratch Labs energy chews and hydration mix. I really like the chews - so much better than the shot blocs I have used in the past. I always had to have water with the shot blocs because they made me so thirsty. Not an issue with the chews.The hydration mix flavor wasn't great but my water also wasn't cold so that could be part of it. I did like the way it made me feel after the run though.
I am hoping to catch up on all the posts I have missed after the dog beach and errands tomorrow!

@shanaber Glad to hear about your wonderful long run!
I set out for a very long run, but called it quits after 5 km due to niggles in my calf and achilles. I'd had my old glute/hamstring trapped nerve feeling a bit recently, and I think the niggles are related to that.
Glad I pulled the plug and made an appointment with the sports massage therapist who fixed the glute/hamstring in August last year.
Since then I've done 3 million steps, and run a marathon, so I think that's a pretty good timespan without injury. I guess the issue is just one I get due to normal slight imbalances.5 -
Just did an hour of Minnesota constraining with the 8in (20cm) of snow we got. I think I'll be wimpy and get my 3 hour run in on the road instead of trail later today6

It was amazing yesterday, felt like summer. I felt brave enough to take my kids out on their bikes while I ran. The first few miles I had to stop a lot as my littlest was a bit rusty on her bike. She kept freaking out every time she saw a tree
So my pace was pretty slow, but worth it.

Yesterday I ran a 30KM, road marathon and 50KM PR at the Orange Curtain 50/100 event. It’s a flat bike path event with only a handful of small hills. I felt great for the first 25 Miles and worked hard from 25-31 to stay on target.
I feel excited, proud, and thrilled to run my first road ultra (ever) and longest road distance in over 5 years. No injuries! Just some soreness and inflammation, but nothing unusual for me.

Not through reading every post that I missed and we are heading to the dog beach. I wanted to comment on what I have read so far or I will forget.
@JessicaMcB - Congratulations on hanging in to finish the race in brutal conditions and on the win!!
On donating blood... I have B- and they call me all the time too. I haven't gone for a while but I used to go all the time and it was hit or miss if I could donate. My normal blood pressure is just too low and they also don't like how low my HR goes.
On blood pressure @RunsOnEspresso, it depends on your age but they have changed what is considered 'high' these days. As @girlinahat mentioned there is definitely evidence that BP is higher for some people in the doctor's office. They call it White Coat syndrome. I have also found that it greatly depends on who is taking it and/or if it is done by a machine. For example in the cardiologist office my BP is its normal low self (100/65) but in my GPs office it is always high - sometimes 140/70 which is way high for me.
I am going to have to check out the Walgreen's rewards for running! Maybe my husband can get them too for his walks and that would encourage him to do more!
Now we are off to the beach and some zooming dogs!

If you are looking for a destination race, I recommend the Gasparillo. Very well organized. All races started on time. The police blocking the streets were all friendly and encouraging. Even making overtime I’m sure they would probably rather be home with their family. The expo was one of the best I’ve ever attended. Lots of vendors and lots of freebies. I’m worried about how I’m going to pack everything in my suitcase!
The heat and humidity though! My hat is off to all you Florida,Alabama and Louisiana Runner’s! Since I did three races I got a shirt and medal for each race plus a medal and nice finishers jacket for completing the challenge.6 -

Yikes, 276 new posts since my last check-in. Not sure I can catch up with them all, but I'll try.
In the meantime, it's been a crap week. Honestly, I'm starting to feel like a broken record on the bad news front, so I'll spare you all the details. Suffice to say, I'm way behind on running and won't catch up this month. But I did squeeze in a solid run at a faster pace today (4.3mph, instead of my usual 4.0), so there's that. Made it 1.5 miles before an odd twinge in my right knee made me second-guess whether I should keep going, although endurance-wise I know I could've gone another mile at least. Ah well. Better safe than sorry, I guess.
My next race is Saturday, a 5K road race in New Orleans. Oughta be an easier time than last weekend's trail run, and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm on the fence, though, about whether I'll try for a PR on time or try to run it without walk breaks - quite certain I can't yet do both at the same time. Decisions, decisions.

I got caught in a torrential downpour the last mile of my run. The black clouds rolled in out of nowhere. The scary thing? The news is reporting that two police officers were shocked by lightning responding to an accident not far from where I was running. Note to self: always check the weather / radar before heading out.

9.43 km Track Speed Session with Coach Chelsey - one of our running club members - a Petite Speed Demon.
After yesterdays 10km with Fritz, (not sure if I dragged him or he dragged me but we were both feeling it at the end) my legs were fairly well wupped so this promises to be "fun" doing a speed session on tired legs.
1km warmup and then this Speed Set.
I missed some of the goals but I'm okay with that. There were 2 guys who had very similar pace but different cadence so to hear and see the difference as they passed me was interesting.

Congrats to all the racers this weekend! I am 405 posts behind so I am just going to declare social media bankruptcy! My week ended up being kind of light (36.5 mi) but with some added body weight and cadence speed work on several days. My son had two evening concerts this week, so I ended up bailing on my Wednesday run, and I felt like I was starting to come down with something Friday night, but slept a lot and took some Vitamin C and echinacea and managed to turn it around by Saturday morning.
I was supposed to have a HM race this weekend but it was rescheduled for April because the course was under a lot of water! I am still trying to help my 9 year old son get ready for his first 10K race next weekend so my family all ran 6.5 mi (sort of) together on Saturday. Sunday I decided to get in an unplanned 20 miler since my race was cancelled, so I tried out my new poles and tried to find as many hills as possible in the nearby Nature Park with well-drained gravel trails (they were in great shape despite all the rain this week).
I got to my goal for the month too!
