How much are you willing to spend on temporary pants?

Hi. I am still losing weight but I have made some great progress so far. None of my work pants or jeans fit! I tried to get some pants at second hand stores with no luck. I am pretty bottom heavy (pear shaped) and I am a crappy height (5 foot 3 1/2" - petites are often short and regular length often too long ). So pants shopping has always sucked.
So I ended up buying a couple pair of new pants to get by for a few months since I cant wear leggings every single day. They were half price. It killed me to spend money on them knowing I will be out of them hopefully in no time, but you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes. I will donate them as my friends are not my size.
I think I might be cheap. Lol. How much are you willing to spend on new temporary pants?

Aw, we don't have a Costco here. But I wish we did.0 -
I spend $50 on two pairs of work pants in the only brand and style I've found that reliably fit me - one grey, one khaki. Those get repeated often, with a few dresses and skirts mixed in. I'm 5'4 and understand the 'not petite but not regular' problem well! Thrift shopping is an exercise in frustration that I just don't have the patience for.
ETA I usually have one pair of jeans that fits at a time, and live in yoga pants at home. Those are the same ones I was wearing 25 pounds ago (albeit much looser now).5 -

Lol. I think we might be lost long cousins or something. Maybe twins separated at birth?
Your descripion of the thrift shopping experience was spot on for me.
My half price pants were each $25.

$15 for jeans at TJ Maxx. I'm also pear-shaped and hard to fit. Have to wear a belt with the cheap ones versus spending more for temporary ones in "curvy cut" at Talbots that are my shape. Not a bad trade-off.
Someone once gave advice that if you live in a small town and know you'll need to change sizes several times while losing to check out consignment stores in the closest large city for more/better options.

I've gotten some great clothes cheap at thrift stores. Some of them even have a "designer boutique." Check them out!3

i'd be naked if it wasnt for goodwill. I'm 4'11" with a "generous" hind end so it takes some looking but when i find the perfect pair of levi's for 8 bucks it makes my day.3

If you're in western Canada like me, do you have access to a local Varagesale community? I use that to sell my old clothes and buy new for super cheap as I don't intend to keep them for long! It has saved me a fortune.

I am in Manitoba. Never heard of that but I am pretty sure Kijiji would be a thought. We also have a local buy and sell site too. Thanks for mentioning. it. I could put up an add "in search of" type thing. Thanks.1 -
You have the same problem that I do- kind of short, short legs and like you said- the petites are too short and the regulars I often have to hem. Goodwill was my best friend while losing weight, especially on half price Saturdays. You just have to be willing to shop around there and find some things that fit, since often they are many years old and the sizing has changed- what you may find in a store that is now a size 8 is a size 12-14 at a Goodwill, so don't get discouraged - just vanity sizing.2

When I was losing 2-3 sizes over a summer a few years ago, I went to Walmart and bought a couple pair of their cheap $10 jeans. Worked fine for me.3

Op I know the struggle. Im pear shaped 5'2". Very bottom heavy. While I have no problems with tops since I'm XS/S bottoms have been my issue. I hesitate to buy too many pants because if I lose 2 inches from my hips l'll drop to a new size. I work in an office setting. I bought some stretchy work pants from New York and Company. I did get them during Christmas special for $15 each in medium. They are getting slightly bigger especially around my waist but still look professional. I say go with stretchy work pants you can were them for a while. Same thing with jeans. I just got some bootcut stretchy jeans pants from Walmart I think. That should last me long enough until I reach my goal size then I can spend more on high end pants.1

I honestly have not taken a good look at Walmart. I will definitely do that too. Maybe Superstore too.
The black pants I wore to work yesterday are starting to feel and look a bit sloppy. They are black jeans really, but they are diguised as work pants. I am so sneaky. Someone is bound to tell me to stop wearing them soon. I have given my closer coworkers full authority to tell me this because I am so used of clothes feeling kinda ugly on me. I had not noticed one pair looked so awful and she said "Those pants are way too big on you and very unflattering. Get some new ones."
Another coworker said the same type of thing and we agreed to go thrift shopping together that night. We had no luck but I ended up getting one of the half price pair that night. When I tried them on I thought they were kind of tight looking. But she said they looked waaaay better on me than what I had been wearing. She said they fit so nice. So did the sales girl.
Perhaps when you unconsciously try to hide your body and it's flaws for years it's hard to see how clothes really should be fitting.7 -
No more than $15 if I can help it. So glad summers coming up, and I don't care much what I wear then, lol.1

I don't fit into Costco clothes yet1 -
I paid way too much. I’m tall and need a 36 inseam. I can only get them in a handful of stores so used wasn’t an option. It sucks cause your losing weight but you have to stilll wear your old pants that are literally falling off. I invested in a couple during the weight loss which are now too big. At least its incentive to keep it off.3

all my work pants are way to big, im just wearing a belt for the time being1

I got a really nice pair of black jeans at Walmart for about $8.
You can always resell them to someone for a few bucks. I'm kinda surprised there's not like a clothing exchange/resell thread around here.0 -
I am in the same boat. All my clothes are too big but I can rig something up with my jeans, belts, pins, etc. Work pants are a different story. I need to buy some new ones and I'm really cheap.

I guess I've never thought that before. Last time I bought my current size pants I thought it would be temporary (and that was a long time ago). They were $200, but I wear them a lot and they feel great.1

All of this!! I was hoping someone suggested the off price stores like TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Ross, Burlington & the like. I find those to be a goldmine for cheapo pants when you aren't super focused on quality but want a good fit.
I am in maintenance now and shop everywhere but I still hit up TJ Maxx first for pants because it's nice to try on like 12 different brands/cuts and find something great for $7 to $24. When I was actively losing I didn't like to spend over $15 on pants/jeans if I could help it.
I do love thrift stores, and understand mileage can vary a LOT depending on what your area is like. My (mid sized) city has great thrift stores all over the place but I've visited places where the selection was grim.

I have definitely been there! About four years ago when I was in the final stages of a major loss, I felt like this happened to me every month or two...close friends were telling me "don't wear that dress again, seriously" and they are the type of friends who are never malicious or catty, they were being kind to me!
It sounds like you're probably right about how you unconsciously tried to hide your body for so long. I don't know your high/low but I also think for some people (myself included) it's a bit weird when you wore a size for years, like I wore size 20 from the weight of about 225 to 260...and then when you get a lot smaller, 5 lb can make the difference between wearing a 14 and a 12. It is hard to adapt!
Congrats on these "good problems to have" though!! Don't be afraid to grab like 4 sizes to try on. You will probably be surprised a lot in the coming weeks and months.

A. I wear a lot of skirts. They're easier to fit into at various weights.
B. I pick up pants once in a while at the OP shops for less than $10 ... often less than $5.1
