C25K app kept crashing so I just decided to run as much as I could and stop to walk as needed, tracking my speed/time/distance with Samsung Health app on my phone. I ended up running for 30 minutes without a break to walk. Holy cow!! The weather is gorgeous and it felt awesome.13 -

Yesterday I took a rest day, and it was much needed. I felt very sore from working out with my new personal trainer. Today I really didn't want to do my long run but forced myself out of the house to at least get something done. I cut it a bit shorter than usual because I wanted to go to a yoga workshop. So, between running, yoga, and another dog walk I'm feeling pretty exhausted right now and ready to spend the rest of the day as one with the couch.
We got a couple of feet of wet, heavy snow yesterday. Wasn't really happy about it, but it's certainly beautiful. These pictures are from my walk with the dog, although I ran in the same park - but on the plowed roads.

3/3: 4 miles - was supposed to be Love Well 5k but postponed to June 23rd on account of flooding.
So yeah, my 5k didn't happen - got a great night's sleep, ate well yesterday, took an extra rest day, weather cool but not cold, sun shining, stars were aligned - the only thing wrong was that half of the course is currently part of the Wolf River. My husband and I were down there running on the same course just a couple of days ago and it was fine, and the flood warnings for the Wolf have been cancelled, so we didn't think to check the race website before heading out this morning. Since we weren't preregistered we didn't get an email or anything warning about the cancellation, but apparently there was no email anyway - we weren't the only runners to show up. No sign, no staff member on hand to apologize, no nothin, just forlorn runners and a flooded course.
We took a video of the sound of the rushing water across the course, if I can figure out how to upload I'll share it. There were Canada geese swimming in the parking lot.
Part of the course was still runnable if you stepped over the barriers so we ran an easy 4 miles or thereabouts, detouring around the flooded zones, and walked two more. It really was pretty, and the camaraderie of being out there trying to get miles in with the other noodniks who didn't notice the race was cancelled was kinda fun. We passed one guy who seems to have been some sort of elite runner, he had a bicycle following him to carry his water and pick up his arm sleeves when he ditched them and had zero visible body fat.
Run-wise it's probably just as well because my bad knee was being terrible and running hard puts more stress on it. So an easy run was better than a race pace would have been anyway.
Oh - I almost forgot something funny! We went across one of the bridges - it's a big arched concrete bridge which is usually about ten to twenty feet above the water - and the water was almost level with the bridge, so we were a little nervous. Halfway across, a fish the size of my leg leaped into the air right next to us. I didn't get a good enough look to see what kind of fish it was, but the sound was like someone cannonballing into a swimming pool! I know there are really big catfish around here, but do catfish jump?8 -

@PastorVincent I missed the whole conversation about the Star Trek watch face! My son is so jealous because it won't work on his Forerunner 15. I think I am going to have to download it for my Fenix 3 though!
I've been a slacker on my running this week--letting my sore hamstring recover a bit before my 10K race this weekend, but I did get in a couple of good cross training sessions (including circuit training, yoga, a P90X class, and water walking) and a 5 mile mid week run. The rest paid off for my race though!
I did the race today with my 9 year old son Quinn. He and I did one 10K together back in 2010--he rode in a backpack and I power hiked the distance and we finished near the back of the pack. The second time around he was blazing fast and finished in 52:18! He not only finished first in the under 10 age group and 25th overall, but beat the top finishers in the next two age groups ahead of his. I also managed to set a PR with a 48:22 and kept a pretty constant 7:50/mile pace (faster than my recent 5K paces!) for the last 4 miles after going out a bit too fast at the beginning. Good day all around and perfect conditions for a race!

Wow it was windy out there. My first 7 miles were hard - I swear I was at a standstill with some of those gusts.

Today's notes – Three days, two seasons. Thursday it was shorts and tee weather for running, and I held the mileage a bit short because I'd gone over a bit on Wednesday and I wanted to have a chance to run the full route today.
Friday we had a winter storm. It dumped a foot of wet, heavy snow in my driveway. This is the typical frustrating March snowstorm; you know it will warm up enough so the snow won't last all that long, but there's just too much snow to ignore. So . . . my volunteer gig closed for the day. No time pressure. Went out at 10:30 AM to clear the driveway, and by 3 PM the roads were quite passable. It's great being retired; the poor working slobs had it really bad yesterday morning.
This morning was pacing with the training program, for 9, 12, 14, or 16 miles. With the accumulated snow from yesterday, there was no question of road shoes; trail shoes all the way. Turned out some sidewalks were awful right where I expected them to be. (The town plows the sidewalks, then street plowing throws more snow into the ditch the sidewalk plowing created.) But running in the streets was fine, and we were able to do that for most of the route.
Had a stack of pace leaders, nominally responsible for 7:30, 8:00, and 8:30 paces; and one guy showing up to join one or another of these groups. We set out to target between 8:00 and 8:30, and it came in at 8:11 average by my watch, paused for a water stop and a rest room break but not paused for stoplights. By the time we hit 13 miles, I knew I'd be good for 16. This is the longest distance I've run in a day since coming back from injury, and the first time I've run over 2 hours since coming back.
Got done, and the regular 7:30 guy asked if anyone was up for another 4. I felt like I could run another 4 miles, but given where I've come from trying that would have been stupid. So I passed on it.
Still, it feels very good to have done a true long run, even if it isn't a 20 mile run. I'm becoming optimistic about being able to finish Boston in April. It won't be a year to push for a great time, but just being able to run 26.2 miles would be good.

So my plan is to run tomorrow right after work. If I go home, I become a couch potato...and noooooo exercise.
I only ran 4 miles the other day, but my quads are sore, as if I had done heavy weight leg presses. It's crazy how deconditioned one can get.
Also I am going to get serious with sticking to my calorie goals. I always use "work" as an excuse. Food at work or eating food to stay awake....I am only 8 pounds away from my goal, and this summer....going to be much closer to goal.

Impressed that you got a run in ( and yoga) after a hard lifting workout! Did you find that you were less sore?

So I did some online shoe shopping today. I found some sites that still carried the v6, but none of them had my size (10.5). Booooo.
Not sure what to do next. I figure I'd look for a different brand of shoe with the same drop (8mm). The v8 is now out, so I could try that and see if it works. Or I could go completely different and try the Brooks Levitate. Has anyone used this brand? I'm curious if they'd work for me and not give me the IT band-related hip pain I had with the v7s.
One plus of the v8s and the Levitate is that they both come in black. (You can't tell this by my profile pic, but I pretty much wear nothing but black and gray LOL.)1 -

From what I can tell by skimming the forums The only reason it is on the Fenix 5 is cause someone wrote to him and asked for it. Maybe you can do the same with the Fenix 3?0 -

My wife has Brooks... I think Ghost, but they are pink! She not a black and grey person. She likes them a lot.0 -

My goal for March will be 150km again. In February I fell a little short (142.5km), but March is longer
And I already got quite a few kilometres in. All of them incredibly slow! Thanks to the huge amount (by my standards) of snow we've had the last couple of days.
When I woke up on Thursday, they already said on the radio that the airport was closed and half the public transport was stopped. My poor car was hood-deep in snow, and I didn't feel like digging it out, so I decided to run to work and back. I should have done a 6km tempo run that day, instead I ended up with 2x5km easy.
Some of the snow melted on Friday afternoon, but I woke up to fresh snow again today. I thought about cutting my planned run short, but I already couldn't do my long run as planned last week (thanks to work). I also thought about playing it safe and running loops close to home; but one think I like about long runs is that it gives me the opportunity to run to places that are too far to reach during weekday runs. In the end I mapped out a 21km route rather than the 25.5km on my training plan, with the option to add on a bit extra in the end.
During the first hour I ran it was still snowing, then it was raining, and in the end the sun came out
I ran through the city down to the river Rhône, a bit along the riverbank, through some fields an forest and back through the suburbs. Stopped for 10 minutes at home to drop of my hydration belt, change into dry socks and shoes, and added on some more distance to finish with 27.5km. It took me about 4 hours for that distance!
The snow is really pretty, but it doesn't allow for fast running. And I had forgotten how many stairs are along the river path; those were so icy it took me forever to go up and down. No new Strava PRs on those segments for me

@JillEReilly89 I hadn't heard about Aaptiv before. Looks interesting. Although I already have "Zombies run" for running, and use Fitnessblender (website, not app) for other workouts, so I don't really need anything else.
@kat_ontherun What do you use on your phone for tracking your runs? And have you checked that you don't have any power saving options switched on? I did that by accident once or twice, if my phone is in "energy saving mode", Strava only records the track while I have the app open and display switched on, otherwise the GPS is turned off.
@RespectTheKitty Sounds like you had a perfect run. Awesome!
I never tried any of the shoes you are talking about, so I have no advice, but I hope for you you'll find nice shoes to replace your v6.

I'm in for 45 miles again this month, with three races on my schedule, and I'm already off to a great start!
Ran my first nonstop 5K today at Rock'n'Roll NOLA! (Although I did take a few strides to drink, rather than douse, my cup of Gatorade at the halfway point aid station. Really need to work on that pinch-and-pour technique.) AND I set a new PR for average pace in a 5K, at 12:47 min/mile. I didn't PR on overall time, though, because of all the dodging and weaving around other runners/walkers and missing a couple opportunities for better tangents. Plus I snaked over for some high fives from the hubby and kiddo at one point. GPS pegged my run at 3.38M, so there's definitely room for improvement on finding my lane. But still. I'm pretty darn pleased!
I knew it was going to be a great day when I arrived to find a jazz band playing at one end of Lafayette Square and Rolling Stones' "Miss You" (one of my all-time faves) blaring from speakers at the other end.
The weather was perfect: 57F, sunny, with 12mph winds. The route was beautiful: starting at Lafayette Square, crossing Canal and looping through the French Quarter (including in front of iconic Jackson Square), and back. And although the back half was tougher than I would've liked, I am so stoked that I finished without walk breaks and in such good time!
Between the delayed start before crossing the timing mat and my forgetting to stop the app when I crossed the finish line, my Runtastic stats were off a bit. Official time was 43:13.
We took the kiddo to the Audubon Aquarium and IMAX (his first 3D movie) afterward and had a blast. My third race this month, an 8K on 3/18, will be Uptown (from the WWII Museum to Audubon Park), so I'm betting another zoo trip is in our future too.
In the meantime, I'll return to the site of my first ever 5K next weekend. Goal will be to improve on tangents and overall time.
