I’ve worked really hard to get to the current weight I am today and I’ve 100% lost weight because all my jeans fall off me and skirts and all the clothes thag didn’t fit me now do. However today it’s my friends birthday and Mother’s Day tomorrow so I thought I’d give my self a cheat weekend as a little treat so today I went out for a lovely meal and when I got back I weight myself this morning I was 10st 1 and now I’m 10st 10 wtffffff I feel disgusting and wish I’d never even bothered going out all my hard work for nothing and I’m probably going to cancel Mother’s Day tomorrow because I’ll just gain more and I tried on the dress for tomorrow and it feels tight today even tho it was perfect yesterday. My stomach looks huge and has doubled inside and my neck feels really fat like I don’t even have a chin or jawline. How can I get rid of this immediately makin me so depressed and miserable

What did you have? It’s sounds like something did not agree with you. It certainly isn’t fat weight.15
-
You are retaining water, more carbs, salt, and food, it's not fat.
You also have more food working its way through you.
Relax, drink a bit more water than normal, and try the dress on tomorrow.
Don't cancel your Mothering Sunday just because you are retaining water, have a standby dress.
I have a couple of nice floaty dresses for such occurrences.
Cheers, h.30 -
You didn't gain 9 lbs of fat overnight. Unless you ate 3500 calories over maintenance, you didn't gain even a full lb. You're looking at water weight, undigested food, potentially waste in your digestive track. Give it a couple of days and you should be back to your usual weight.17

Those 9 pounds are mainly water weight, not fat. In order to have at least 1 pound of fat overnight, you need to eat 3500 calories over your maintenance which I highly doubt it. Once you get back to your regular diet, watch those pounds drop quickly....
I know because my weight fluctuates big time and I weigh myself daily, but what counts at the end for me is my average weight by the end of the week. For example, last week, my weight went as high as 168 lbs, but my average weight for that week was 165 lbs and I happened to remain the same weight as my previous week average although my goal right now is to bulk. I basically failed my bulk this past week despite having a day where my weight skyrocketed
Just scratch it off and continue what you were doing.6 -
Did you move your scale from its usual place?
While everything people above said is absolutely true, it is still very unlikely to gain overnight 9lbs of water and extra food circulating in your system, even if you ate a lot a few hours before. Not to mention fat, which is literally impossible, as has been said before. A scale, however, even couple inches moved, can show several LB higher or lower numbers. Those 2 things combined can well give that seeming jump in weight.8 -
This wasn't even an overnight fluctuation, this morning compared to later that same day.
OP, you didn't gain 9 lbs of fat after a single meal.
I agree with this:Tiny_Dancer_in_Pink wrote: »What did you have? It’s sounds like something did not agree with you. It certainly isn’t fat weight.
Seems you may have eaten something that caused bloating (which is why your stomach seems bigger). Add in the weight of the food you ate, and drinks, increased sodium from the meal. All very likely causes. Perhaps weighing yourself in the mornings only, if it causes you this much distress.7 -
In order to gain nine pounds of fat, you would need to eat your maintenance calories plus 31,500. For reference, this picture contains 7161 calories worth of hamburgers - you would need to eat 4 or 5 of every one of them to hit that calorie goal.

That Wendy's burger looks quite good though12

Hey, i ate a 1000 calories in the last 48 hours. Not because i avoid eating, just because i worked a double at the hospital and just crashed in bed after i got home. I gained a pound...lol!12

You shouldn't weigh yourself at night. Food and liquid have weight. Wait until the morning7

What everyone else said, it's definitely not 9 lbs of fat. I try not to weigh myself after cheat meals/cheat days/cheat weekends (cuz sometimes it turns into that, for me ), the number on the scale is always overly inflated.
If it makes you feel better, last Sunday I ate a ton of crap (way more than just one big meal, which is what it sounds like you had), and against my better judgement I weighed myself the next day. I was up about 7 lbs from my last weigh in. I was good for the next couple days, got my workouts in and let my body rid itself of all the bloating and water weight, and when I weighed myself again those 7 lbs were gone almost overnight.
Don't skip Mother's Day tomorrow! I know exactly how you feel because I've been there a lot. You shouldn't beat yourself up for slipping up sometimes; it happens to the best of us. I've found that when I don't put so much pressure on myself, it actually gets a little easier to make good food choices even when I'm dining out. Remember this is a lifestyle change, one bad meal or a cheat weekend isn't going to ruin everything you've worked for.4 -

Good point - I didn't even realise that until I re-read the OP! Perhaps she weighed herself naked this morning and fully clothed later in the day? As well as all the other possibilities that have been suggested.
But yeah - OP, don't give up, and don't beat yourself up about it. There's no way you put on that much actual weight in one day, and you haven't ruined all your work so far. You may even find that most of it is gone again in the morning.
If necessary, find another dress that fits you more comfortably, go out and enjoy your day, and get back to your normal routine on Monday.4 -
As an example:
Last summer, while on a vacation, I gained 8 kg (17 lbs) in a week.
I ate a lot, probably around 4000 calories per day, since I never restrict myself much while on a vacation and abroad with interesting, exotic food. But I was also quite active, no gym or other training, but a lot of hiking and averaged 35000 steps per day, mostly around hills and mountains. Also 2 flights, which can influence weight and erratic sleep schedule.
Anyway, those 8 kg gained were all gone after a week back home with the regular regime.5 -
agree with the others. especially don't weigh yourself after you eat a big meal lol.5

I would make sure you weigh yourself at the same time every day preferably in the mornings before you eat anything so it is more consistent. Sometimes when I weigh myself in the morning and then at night I feel discouraged because I gain a lot of weight during the day (sometimes well over 10 pounds). Also sometimes major weight fluctuations are due to major dietary changes. Have you changed your sodium input? Sometimes that can lead to a lot of water retention.2

While I've never had any of the behemoth burgers on page 1, the biggest Whataburger I recall ever having was similar in calories to the BK Triple Whopper.2

My God now i want a burger..
Thanks a lot16 -

You did not gain 9 lbs of fat in one day.
If you have really swelled that much are you having an allergic reaction? Seek medical attention?
If not:
You may be retaining water if you ate and drank at a restaurant- sodium, carbs.
You may have extra food waste in your body still.
You weighed at different times of the day. Weight naturally fluctuates throughout the day.
Pick out a different outfit if you feel that bloated.6 -

Most of the nine pounds you gained are likely just water. It would be hard to gain that much fat in two days.
Could you also be bloated from pms? Or be constipated? Or took in too much sodium? Those kind of things could be in play.
I think you should not cancel mothers day just because of your scale number going up.
Just do your best to log everything you eat, then get back to your program. Hug.3 -

You (a man) have not been through PMS. Lots of us woman know the crazy amounts of water that we gain as part of pms.
My grandma had ovarian cancer, and at one point they were able to remove 19 pounds of water from her belly. Fluid retention happens.8 -
I'm have been known to temporarily appear to gain 8 - 9 after a treat meal, salt and refined carbs fonif for me, they make me retain water, cause bloating, and even though I know it's water weight, I still feel crappy about it. Drink a lot of water, or eat foods with a lot of water content in over the next few days and it will come off.2
-
Never weigh yourself the day after a cheat meal or day lol. I've gained up to 15lbs after. Just drink plenty of water and go back to your normal diet. It will even out in a few days.2
-
I can gain 5 lb between 8am and noon with normal daily eating. It's very typical for Wright you fluctuate during the day and certainly immediately after you eat a lot. Relax and stick with your plan!2
