The Calorie Culprit: Coffee Creamer

Coffee Creamer! The one thing I must have with my coffee. It's loaded with calories and I'm not sure what to do!
I'm an avid coffee drinker (addict maybe Lol). About 3 cups a day every day since junior high. With that said, I loooove International Delight because of all of the amazing flavors.
It just racks on the calories with the blink of an eye- from 20 to 35 calories a tablespoon depending on if I use sugar free or not. I usually use 4 to 6 tablespoons depending on the size of my cup, not to mention I'll go back for another.
I need an alternative or some tips about how to save those calories. Are there coffee creamer alternatives that are less calories??
Also- I am willing to go to the black route completely. I already drink black coffee, but I only like it iced. I just can't boot the creamer.... nor the coffee...
Does anyone else relate???

I bought an espresso maker and make lattes with fat free milk and 0 calorie flavor syrups. It helps a LOT, because it's still coffee, it's still caffeine, but it's also mostly air.15

Coffee is one of my top 3 favorite things. Once I started tracking calories International Delight became one of the first items I eliminated as not worth the calories. I now take my coffee with skim milk. I put a tsp of sugar in only the very first coffee of the day. Compromise that works for me.4

With almond milk. Delicious. And you dont need much, I just put a cap full in my cup, almond milk and then let the Keurig do its thing and TA-DA.1 -
Try slowly using less. Start using 3 TBL and give your taste a week or so to catch up. Then go down to 2, etc. If you like the sugar free ones, that's a great way to save calories.
I actually worked my way down to using 1/4 cup of 2% milk with no sweetener split between 2 cups. But I do get the flavored creamers every once and awhile - they're yummy :drinker:
Some people find coconut milk or almond milk creamers sweeter, but I thought they tasted just like reg milk.5 -
If you can't live without it, learn to use less.8
-
I do unsweetened vanilla almond milk with my coffee in a big thermos and add like 2 tlbs of my fave creamer(right now its Coffee Mate coconut cream) it works out good cuz its the right color and I get enough of the creamer flavor to satisfy me,it works out to 90 calories for the whole thermos5
-
I use Premier protein caramel for coffee creamer. Very good and adds protein too.8
-
I use 2 ounces of Fairlife whole milk in my coffee. Makes it plenty creamy enough and less than 40 calories.6
-
Walden Farms is a brand that makes a lot of zero calorie items such as salad dressings and coffee creamers. I don't personally care for them but it might be worth giving a try.1
-
Soy milk is really creamy so a little can go a long way! And for sweetness you could add a packet of splenda or some flavored sugar free syrup2
-
I go for the sugar free great value french vanilla creamer. . . tastes like lucky charms marshmallows. for a decent-sized cup I use 2 Tbsp = 40 calories and sometimes go back for another 1/2 cup with another Tbsp. . . so 60 calories. . . not bad in my book. I also use splenda as I like it a bit sweeter. Highly recommend this coffee creamer as well as coffee mate sugar free hazelnut (only 15 calories / Tbsp). Both are really good. Even half n half isn't too bad--usually around 40 calories for 2 Tbsp.
Creamer is one thing I just can't justify using too many calories on. I don't like drinking my calories.2 -

Do you know the difference between a teaspoon and a tablespoon?
I like my coffee very white, and I use 3 heaped teaspoons of coffee creamer (4 grams), and all up it's 276 kilojoules (66 calories).
Theres no way you need 4-6 tablespoons.
Check your measurements in your diary. Cheers!3 -

There are some people who enjoy a splash of coffee in their cup of creamer.17 -
I ended up drinking my coffee black. If I wanted a little something different I would use calorie free flavored syrups. Now that I'm in maintenance I use coffee creamer again, but find I barely use any at all. A bottle last forever now0
-
Coffee creamer must be an American thing, I've never seen it here in the UK or tasted it - I reckon that's a good thing LOL
I used to take a little sugar in my coffee but weaned myself off that years ago, the thought of sugar in it now would make me go euuuw.4 -
Yasss!
I lost nearly 3 stone about 2 years ago, and was maintaining nicely. But, then started to put in weight, and I couldn't figure out why. I didn't really put much effort into figuring out why.
Food intake was mainly the same. I didn't measure or weight food and wasn't about to start all that again.
Just kept on seeing the scale jump up 1kg at a time. Figured it was because I wasn't exercising as much. Started exercising more.
Still putting on weight.
Anyway, 1 stone later... *kitten*. Started weighing and measuring food again. Nope, food wan't the culprit.
Started really measuring everything and recording on here.
Dam you Coffee Mate. Dam you to heck. I was having the equivalent of 2 mars bars a day.
Now I have black coffee. Or 1 cup with 5g of MCT oil.6 -
You're right about creamer being a calorie culprit. Fat free milk/creamer with flavored syrups and extracts should help you get those calories down. I've cut way down on the creamer but I'm not totally black yet, lol.4

There was a user on here that put half a cup of milk in their coffee because they liked milky coffee. I never got a clear answer whether that was half a cup of milk for EVERY cup of coffee, or half a cup of milk for coffee OVER THE COURSE OF THE DAY. I think she mentioned she drank 4-6 cups of coffee daily.
Now that I think, it may have been tea.0 -
I love all the flavors too!!! Sometimes I use a teaspoon of Stevia if I need it to be more sweet. Chocolate Raspberry creamer and White Chocolate Macadamia are just right for me But, I always add a tablespoon of heavy whipping cream to get a nice creamy, fatty flavor and I am usually satisfied. My coffee is 85 - 105 calories a day ... I allow for those calories because I will not give up my morning coffee1

Just slowly start using less and less creamer. Cut it down by 1 tablespoon and go a week drinking it that way. Keep cutting it by 1 tbsp until you get to the point where you're only adding 1 or 2 per cup (or black if you can make it that far). Also, consider cutting your coffee intake to no more than 2 cups (8oz) a day.2 -
Try switching to almond milk and splenda. Creamy and sweet.1

4-6 tbls?
Why bother putting coffee in your creamer.
Just drink the creamer straight.

At the start of our weight loss journey my husband and I gave up creamer in our coffee. WAY TOO MANY CALORIES. Instead of replacing it with something else we went on a coffee fast. After abstaining from coffee for a little while black coffee really wasn't that bad. Now I get my coffee fix in the morning with 0 calories and I really don't mind the taste at all.1

Well it's so many tablespoons because my mugs and travel cups are so big. I don't have standard 6oz coffee cups. I have huge cups lol. My coffee is slightly tan from the cream...... I only did the "coffee to my cream" in junior high.1 -

This sounds amazing!!! I LOVE adding almond milk to my coffee when take it to go. This will be a great way to cut the cream and still have great flavors!!! Thank you so much for the link. Definitely buying a bottle.1 -

Hey! It depends on how big your cup is. I was straight up using 10 TABLEspoons when I first started logging, but I was using BIIIIIIIG travel mugs. And I could easily have two of those a day.4 -

This is the stuff that I use too. Quick note, if you go to Home Goods, they sell these for half price. I literally have a pantry shelf full of different flavors at this point.1
