    Here's my opinion.

I used Breyers Maple Nutty Twist as comparison as it is what I had been eating. Kinda too bad as it isn't my favourite and probably won't buy it again. I had (what I think) is a half serving of it and each of the 4 Halo Top flavours.

I like the peanut butter swirl. I had tried that one before on vacation. The birthday cake was good, 3rd favourite. Minty chip was second and I wasn't fond of the candy bar.

The Breyers is $6 for a 1.66L package, Halo Top is $7 on sale (normal $8) for a 473 ml package. So roughly 1/3rd the size.

And the calories difference is not that much. 110 for 125 ml for the Breyers vs 80-100 for 125ml of the Halo Top.

So, in short, not sure I'm going to splurge on them again.

@Tacklewasher What was the texture like compared to regular ice cream? Was it creamy at all, or more sorbet-like?

More or less like ice cream. It's not sorbet for sure. I've had creamier but it's worth trying just to see what all the hype is.

For anyone in the Calgary area, I found more at the Crowfoot Co-op. They have a few more flavours than Superstore has (cookies & cream, birthday cake, chocolate, and caramel macchiato), they’re slightly cheaper, and they’re in stock.

That's great...I think I'll try the caramel macchiato one!
Thanks for letting us know :)

I tried the downtown Co-op thinking they would carry them (since the Crowfoot one does...)Nope...none that I could see.

That’s strange. Is the downtown Co-op a big one? I know that the smaller Co-ops don’t carry nearly as much as the larger ones (the Brentwood one is the worst) but you’d think downtown would have some.

that's most likely the reason...it's not that big compared to others out there. oh well, just great to know that Cowtown carries them...somewhere :D

Signal Hill Co-op carries 10 flavors: oatmeal, pancake, candy bar, caramel macchiato, vanilla, chocolate, mint chip, b-day, cookie cream, sea salt. Sold out of most of them - the ones I wanted to try

found them (although mostly sold out) at the StupidStore (Signhill) in the Regular place that sells ice cream - not in the organic/natural freezer area. They also sell (although sold out) chocolate or vanilla Breyers Delights...

I know I'm not Tacklewasher but ... I would say the Halo Top and the CoolWay are more like frozen yogurt in texture. I found the CoolWay slightly more dairy like in flavour than the HT. I would describe the CoolWay flavours as less intense in flavour except for the Mint Chip and the Chocolate Chocolate Chip. Those are my two favourites.

Interesting - I have a hard time finding chocolate ice cream that I really like, as most of them seem too "light". The only one I've been willing to buy more than one carton of was Haagen Dazs... that was a nice rich-tasting one!

I'll have to check out Walmart again and see if they have anything new - we shop there every week and they had nothing on Saturday. :)

I had to check a few freezers at Walmart to find it. It wasn't with all the other ice creams but with the ice cream sandwiches and cones so make sure you check all of them.

I agree that the prices are ridiculous for the amount you get.

Are you able to eat a serving or two of the regular stuff and move on? Did you ever have a problem moderating the amount you ate of ice cream?

I still haven't gotten to the point of taking a serving and leaving the rest in the freezer. I should work on that.

Thanks! Might check some of the other Co-ops around here, there are like 5 of them within a 10 minute drive from here, one of them must have more flavours than the Crowfoot one. Will probably wait for a sale, though…

I think Canada was only supposed to get 10 flavours, so that’s probably all of them at that store.

It IS expensive, which is why I'm a bit hesitant to buy it! I want to see what all the fuss is about for myself, but I don't have much disposable income to play with right now and I'm reluctant to waste it on something I might not like. I might see if I can treat myself to a new flavour every couple of weeks, or something. :)

Fortunately, I personally don't have too hard a time moderating ice cream, although we tend to buy the cheaper brands and it might be harder to resist a really good one! I've actually never tried frozen yogurt, so I'm not sure how I'd do with that sort of thing.

I guess the main point of these low-calorie brands is to cater to the people who want the ability to eat an entire pint without guilt!

I can take 2 servings (one isnt enough) and put the rest back. Been working on the Breyers for a couple of weeks now.

So, last night I decided that instead of eating it out of the container that I would eat a one cup serving out of a small dessert bowl. I've so far only eaten the HT and CoolWay out of the tiny cartons. Seeing it in the bowl made a big difference in perception. It seemed like a larger serving than just mindlessly eating it out of the container.

I'm coming to the conclusion that this idea of being able to eat a whole pint of ice cream at a time is feeding in to my gluttonous habits with certain treat foods and that's not serving me well.

I've got to work on moderation whether it's a low calorie treat or a higher calorie one.

I haven't seen the dairy free in any of the stores here in Windsor, ON.

Saw 4 flavors at Save-On Foods today (Heritage - Calgary) Candy bar, Birthday, Peanut Swirl and Mint Chip (if I'm remembering correctly) $6.99 on sale -reg. $7.99
Also saw a Breyer's Delight -just a few (Cookies n Cream, chocolate and vanilla...again - if I'm remembering correcty...)

Everywhere I’ve gone has been sold out. None at Superstore since the first day I saw them. Crowfoot Co-op has spaces now for all 10 flavours, but they were all gone except a couple of pancakes & waffles pints. I’m still hoping for a sale, but I’m afraid that when they do go on sale there won’t be any to buy. :disappointed:

Yes...that's usually what I'm seeing too - I need to buy shares in the company :D

BC Canadian checking in. I don't have the ability to read 6 pages, it's only available in the east still right?

Yes! And even if Save-On has some in stock, I’m not driving to one just for ice cream. I couldn’t even tell you where one is near me.

Might have to try the Breyers, I just don’t like how boring their flavours are. Chocolate and vanilla aren’t that exciting and cookies & cream isn’t a flavour I usually go for. I’d try CoolWhey but I’ve never seen it in stores, I don’t even know where to look.

Nope, it seems to be available, technically speaking, across the country now. But a majority of stores seem to be sold out. According to the HT website, only Superstore is listed as carrying them but they've been spotted in Save On Foods and Co Op too.

    Good luck finding some! :)

I saw three or four flavours of the Breyers Delights in my local Safeway, but they were almost $9 for a teeny tiny tub so I didn't even look twice. I don't care how low calorie it is, I'm not paying that much!

It's weird - I keep reading about it being sold out everywhere and experienced that at two stores I went to, but there is one Metro near me that has had overflowing shelves with many, many flavors every time I've gone there - can't figure out if it is because no one goes there for it or if they were just prepared and ordered a ton of the stuff. Either way, good for me when I want to shell out the $$ for it!

Can't find Coolway yet, but found this while googling for it.

    https://www.thestar.com/life/food_wine/review/2018/03/14/we-put-low-calorie-ice-cream-halo-and-coolway-to-the-taste-test.html

TL:DR Coolway beat out Halo Top.

Just picked up HT at the Metro in Sault Ste Marie. Tried the cookies and cream last night, and enjoyed it.

I haven't seen it at my local Valu-Mart though.

Thumbs up for CoolWay for me, too. Taste, texture and price. I like that it's a Canadian company, as well. I'm still waiting for the Blueberry Waffle Crisp to hit the shelves. Walmart's regular price seems to be $4.97. Here in Windsor, ON, anyway. I won't be buying anymore HT.

I like the price of CoolWay, I haven't tried it but I might give it a go later. I have some HT in my freezer currently and it's good because it doesn't give me the warm, fuzzy - eat it all feeling that other ice creams do (my favourite is Scotsburn's Udderly Devine - so tasty!)

My Maxi grocery store (Loblaws affiliate) finally introduced 4 flavors of Halo Top, the pancake & waffles, sea salt caramel, peanut butter swirl and Oatmeal cookie. I bought the Pancake & Waffles (still haven't tried it yet), out of the 4 I mentionned, which ones do you prefer?

They have it in select Superstore locations in Nova Scotia, however they have been selling out so fast I haven't been able to get my hands on any.

Peanut butter has been my fav so far. Killed the birthday cake last night, and won't buy it again. But I preferred the Breyers delight chocolate.

Sea Salt Caramel is #1 for me. Then Oatmeal Cookie but I'd prefer it without the bit's of oatmeal. Peanut Butter swirl is third but it's not a flavour I'd go for in regular ice cream.

Pancakes & Waffles has been my least favourite of the 4. I found it to have a strong aftertaste that I didn't care for.

We finally got the 4 flavours in our superstore (Brandon, Manitoba). I bought 1 of each yesterday-the first day they had them-and a friend went to get some later in the day and they were all sold out. I haven't tried it yet but glad I got my hands on some!
