Hey I’m Sarah!
I’m on my 6th day of no soda.
Is anyone else quitting soda?
Any success stories?
Any advice?

I like the bubbles of soda, so I didn’t give it up. Diet soda for me.34

I've quit soda a few times, mostly done it cold turkey though which isn't always ideal. Sometimes I've tapered off by switching to ginger ale which for some reason can help me kick the habit off soda.4

I loved soda way too much to give it up... I switched to diet so that I could enjoy it for 0 calories.. Lol. That's my advice19

Same. I drink at least one a day most of the time.10 -
I quit soda, but I drink carbonated water just about every day. Squeeze some lemon or lime juice in it. I love it.9

I haven't had soda since August! I was drinking one or two twenty ounce bottles per day of Coke. We grew up drinking soda, so it was a regular part of my meals. I won't lie, it was hard! Like, dreaming of soda in my sleep hard! I white knuckled it and the first three weeks I had headaches and I was just cranky. Very similar to quitting smoking. Every day got easier and I don't miss it at all now. Once in a blue moon I'll get a passing craving and it's gone before I know it. I don't have any tips really. I drank lots of green tea and water and actually started having a cup of coffee every morning (never was a coffee drinker before). Coffee helped with the caffeine withdrawals I guess?7 -

You dont need to give up soda to lose weight - I have approx 600ml of DIET SODA a day and am less than 10% BF..
If it is sugar free - like pepsi max - you WILL BE OKAY and it wont effect your Body Composition14 -
You mess with my diet Vernors at your own peril.5

I was addicted to regular Coke ... Find a substitute you can live with. For me it's diet Fanta or Diet Mountain Dew. At first when I was really craving a coke I'd have one, but just a small and I'd log and count it. For me there were just certain foods that tasted best with a regular Coke. It took time but eventually the craving went away. Just be patient with yourself and remember that the craving for it won't stop over night and don't beat yourself up or feel like a failure when you do give in. It's all about balance.
Everyone is different but for me I "gave it up" on October 18th of 2017. Probably had five regular cokes after that when I just couldn't resist but haven't had any at all or really even wanted to have one since the Saturday before Christmas.8 -
130 lbs lost and you can pry my diet soda from my cold dead hands.28

200lbs lost and coke zero is my daily drink.18

Nah I have continued to lose just fine and am pretty healthy enjoying my daily Diet Coke.
Unless it's significantly causing you difficulty in hitting your calorie goal it's not really necessary to quit it. If you just don't want to drink it then fair enough, but bear in mind you may suffer a little from caffeine withdrawal and that's the biggest challenge, so you may be better to wean off it slower than going cold turkey.12 -
I've sort of quit soda, but I just drank it out of habit.
My advice is 1) to be careful with what you cut out, consider that even the best intentions can backfire, and 2) pick habit changes that have a real, net, positive impact - for instance, if you drink diet soda, it has no impact on your calories, but it could make it easier for you to not snack; if it's one glass of the real deal per week, it will not have any meaningful impact on your calories; if it's gallons of sugary drinks daily, it can have a great impact.6 -
I was drinking 2 or 3 cans of regular mt dew daily and it was one of the first things i worked on changing. Since January I have drank 1 ginger ale and 1 can of mt dew. The ginger ale was one of those really tiny cans. The mt dew was a 16 ounce bottle that I drank on two separate occasions. If I really want one I will allow myself to have one but it is very rare lately that I have wanted it. I focus more now on drinking enough water.5

Yep! Haven't had a diet soda since the beginning of March. I feel so much better not drinking the stuff.23

I used to drink the equivalent of about 4-6 cans of regular coke a day. Love it too much to give it up completely. I just fit in about 2-3 per week now and fit it into my plan. It took some discipline, but whenever I tried to eliminate it completely, that would only work for a short time before the "wanting what I can't have" would take over.
I will say that the drastic reduction in the amount that I drink has absolutely helped to lose weight. But the other thing that has helped me is knowing that if I plan it properly it's not an issue to have every once in awhile.
