Actually I didn't stop drinking soda because of the weight lose issue it's because I'm diabetic too much sugar. So I for a Treat once or twice a month doesn't hurt the sugar level as much if it's one soda then drinking it all the time for me.2

I gave up soda in January, just because I wanted to increase my overall water consumption. I didn't intend for it to be long term but haven't had one since January 2. I drink coffee, sparkling water, and regular water. I really didn't have any cravings after the first week.8

I gave up Diet Coke about 9 months ago. I was drinking 6 or more cans a day. The withdrawal symptoms were terrible but I ploughed through and it was worth it. Diet coke may not affect your weight loss but it certainly affects your teeth. The bacteria in your mouth can't tell the difference between sugar and sweetners and the acid in the drink attacks the enamel. My teeth and gums have been much healthier recently. Also after the initial withdrawal symptoms I began to feel better in myself. I slept better and my digestive system worked better.27

I am trying to give up Diet Coke, too, because I normally drink the caffeine free, which isn't available a lot of places, so then I have regular Diet Coke and I think it bothers my breathing if I have too much. Just trying to drink a lot more water.2

Since the bacteria in your mouth live off of the energy in the sugar and sweeteners don't have energy, you should get your findings to the nobel prize commitee asap, you just solved world hunger and intergalactic space travel in one go.26 -
I'm just not that into soda. I first quit it when I was 12 yrs old. I was drinking it one day and thinking how I didn't even like it. So just for fun I decided to see how long I could go without having it again. Waited until 14! I generally have it about 4 or 5 times a year now. I like some craft sodas. Maine Root, for example, makes a root beer that I like. The mainstream stuff is just not good to me though. Makes me feel sick.

Myself, No, not quitting it - I have a diet soda now and then, equivalent of about 2 or 3 cans per week. and very occasionally a non diet one.
No issues with weight loss or caffeine or cost or any other reason to give up, for me.2 -

Not from actual science, that's for sure.15 -
Diet pop hasn't got very many calories, so why give it up? I never have drank regular pop. It tastes way too sweet to me and never has been worth the calories.5

Anything that trips up our success that we can cut out can be great. I did it back in 2014 and retried it a few times but the downside in my case finally turned me off of soda of any type, not just the sugar laced ones.
Keep up learning what you need and what you want. They can be different.18 -
I just quit it cold turkey. I don't like diet so no substitute there. It was hard at first but it's been a little over a month and I'm doimgbok.6

I am horrible with pop (Michigan soda=pop) I work at a bar/bowling alley and I easily would drink 4-6 large (24oz) Pepsi's in one 7 hour shift. More if I worked a double. Plus a double shot of Yukon after every shift which gets chased with more Pepsi. I started drinking soda water with lemon and now I only drink regular water it's been a few weeks since I slipped up and grabbed a Pepsi from the fountain and the last time I did it was way to sweet and I couldn't finish it.4

is that regular or diet pepsi? if regular, that is like 1200-2000 calories in just the pepsi!4 -
I am also trying to work diet coke out of my life. I used to drink 2 20 oz bottles a day. I am now down to about 12 oz a week. I have noticed that it does affect my weight loss and cause me to stall a bit. It also really messes with my tummy these days. It has been very difficult...good luck!!

So many people here suffering due to mass desinformation. How sad. But I guess if you can't be bothered to learn more then you deserve it.

Use to drink a minimum of 3-4 cans a day. Sometimes drank as many as 6/day
That was a reduction of 420-840 cals a day or more than 33-50% of my current 1650 cal/day limit.
Totally empty cals that contributed to my getting fat when I drank them and simply eliminating them was all I needed to do to jump start my weight loss effort.
Doesn't mean that sodas are "evil" or that you can't lose weight while drinking sodas if they fit in your diet but, for me, it was just easier to eliminate them altogether.

I quit drinking soda 5 months ago, but switched to arizona green tea. Not better, but definitely less sugar. Pepsi Zero tastes pretty good if you ever need a soda kick with the fizz. Good luck in stopping!2

Other than with my rum I don't drink soda period. Any longer that is. I did used to drink a lot of soda. Super size me B!$%&!!!

I quit drinking full sugar soda 5.5 years ago save for about once per year when I take my kids to the pumpkin farm and me and my oldest share a sarasparilla that they make in house on the farm.
I drink a Fresca for lunch most days and that's what I also typically use as a mixer for vodka cocktails.
I didn't have anything soda wise for a very long time as I do not like most diet sodas I've tried...but I discovered black cherry citrus Fresca and it's a nice break from water.3 -
I quit soda in 2012. Drinking it all the time is a habit I'm glad I quit. The taste was good but not worth the extra calories and sugar, and it used to mess up my stomach all the time too. Water is so much more refreshing.4

Sarcasm is unnecessary. The acid in the Diet Coke attacks the tooth enamel and gums. Bacteria don't know or care if your drink is sweetened with sugar or an artificial sweetening substance. Either way the bacteria will happily take advantage of the weakness in teeth and gums. Given a nice cavity or gap in the gums that makes brushing more difficult, bacteria will thrive leading to decay and/or gingivitis. This information came from my dentist.
My comments regarding withdrawal symptoms are based on personal experience.

I’ve been a year soda free. I went from drinking maybe 2 -4 2 liters a day to none. I weened myself off using sweet tea (caffeine headaches were not something I wanted) and then I quit that and just drank water. That took about 6 weeks. I lost 67lbs and can’t stand soda anymore when I take a sip of someone else’s. Good choice! You got this!5

Weird! I always have great check ups with my dentist and I drink diet soda almost everyday.22 -
I enjoy soda, can't lie. I refuse to drink diet soda though as it has aspartame. They used to have this coca cola life that had stevia I believe but they don't do it any longer where I live.
I try to only have soda at the weekend or special occasions. I find flavoured fizzy water is delicious and the one I drink has no aspartame.
Other than that it is ice cold water for me- I like mine with lemon or fresh mint. Delicious!10
