My downfall is stress or tired drinking. I think I want a glass of wine to calm my nerves in the evening. I may not really even want a glass of wine, but I think I want it. It's like a battle inside. You want it. No you don't. Yes you do. No you don't. For me sometimes the no's win, but mostly the yes's win. This is my challenge this week. The no's get a little stronger than the yes's.
Just to report on my small victory: The NO was stronger tonight!!10 -

Yahoo! You just exercised that willpower muscle and won! Xo3 -
I'm coming in late, but I'm in. Really tired of working so hard on diet and fitness during the week, and then blowing it all to hell on the weekends. And all my friends and my husband are drinkers. Ugh!
Plus, training for a half marathon in the fall. Got to get serious!10 -

I'm with you there. That's me exactly. Also, add in boredom. We can do this together!
Today is day 3 AF and I already feel better physically. Just feel lighter all over.4 -
The “reward” mentality is the core of it. “I’ve had a hard day/good day/achieved something/failed something, I deserve a drink!” To not have a drink feels like deprivation or punishment.
After a session, I suggest you write down how you’re feeling, emotionally and physically. Write everything, don’t hold back. Waffle on for however long you want. Then fold that up and put it somewhere safe. Memory alone is deceptive, you know you felt bad/awful etc, but it rewrites things continuously to fit the current mood/circumstance. When you’re tempted, you get that paper out and you read it.
This is such great advice.
So last night I took the time to write a letter to myself and remind myself why I do not need to follow the pack and pretend that I need alcohol to enjoy life.
I reminded myself of some of my worst experiences while drinking all through out my life ( and I have been around for a long time, lol)
It brought tears to my eyes as I wrote it out, so hard to think that I was so blinded by booze.
Then I signed it ... I love you, your worth it. With my name.

You’re amazing hun. One day at a time, one small battle at a time. You’ll win the war. X2

Miss May you are worth it! If I did that letter, it would be the same for me. And to think that it still has such a hold/place in my mind and I haven't drank since Jan. 22nd. That in and of itself tells me a lot.4

I'm in! Brand new to this group. I used to drink daily. Not just one, but probably 3 every day - I could keep up with my boyfriend who is 40 pounds heavier. My goals are to abstain Monday through Wednesday and then try to moderate intake (2-3) on the weekends. That probably doesn't sound like a small amount to people but, baby steps - I live in a very boozy city and everyone around me drinks quite a bit!8

Welcome! Happy to have you here. Be sure to set a plan for Mon-Wed. What will you do when you crave it ? Maybe buy some delicious tea, any substitution. You can make it work:)3 -
Finally done with my 3+ weeks of traveling since February 1st. I drank way too much wine while dining out every single evening (generally no more than 2 glasses, but it was every single night). I really want to have more days AF than days drinking alcohol. I am 2 days AF in a row....need to build on that! Thank you all for continuing this thread - it keeps me mindful.5

On a work trip. One glass of wine at dinner and planned to have just one more in the hotel bar when I ran into another colleague. That one turned into two but I still feel ok about it, other than work trips mean less exercise and less sleep and more stress.
Tomorrow is a long day of meetings and then a planned dinner and drinks with a friend/colleague on the same return flight as me. A couple of days abstaining and then I’m off to an all inclusive in Mexico next week and another work trip the week after.
This month won’t be quite as moderate as Feb but I still feel more in control of my drinking decisions and no regrets so far.6 -
Medical procedure (colonoscopy) done yesterday, with 7 days AF. As they asked me questions before giving me the anesthetic, it made me realize how perfect my body really is, especially at my age, and that I am a fool for not taking better care of it. On any meds? No. Any heart problems? No. Breathing problems? No. I mentioned that I'd never had an IV before, and that surprised one of the nurses.
So I've started a grocery list for the week, and mapping out my meals so I know what I'm eating - no guessing. Meal prep today with honey BBQ meatloaf, bird balls (turkey & chicken meatballs), turkey taco meat, shredded chicken for chicken salad and chicken tacos, honey garlic shrimp - all healthy recipes. Also planning for decadent desserts: mug cake, Halo Top ice cream, nana disks (frozen banana with PB2 chocolate)...
No room for wine in that plan!10 -
Hi everyone! I can totally relate to the lowered resistance when you've been off the sauce for a while. Hubby and I went out for anniversary last night. 2 beers for him, 2 red wines for me. Well last night I had a terrible night's sleep complete with heart pounding so loudly that I could hear it. It used to take a bottle to do that to me. I guess I am grateful my resistance is lower and I'm becoming turned off to ANY amount of wine. I need to stop equating wine with celebrating ANYTHING. All it does is ruin my sleep.6

Hey guys! Update on me: Today is day 4 AF. I feel good. But the weekend will be tough. We're already planning on going to a food truck party at our favorite local brewery tomorrow. Wish me luck!7

Feeling good and positive on this cold but sunny Friday
Last night I logged onto that new site i joined Drinkaware.com. there are many helpful tools that are interactive. I was able to fill in every day for every month since 2018 began. It allows you to select "no drinking day" or the amount and type of drink (s) you may have had that day. Then it will either show up green, yellow or red to let you know if your GREEN within a low risk for the day, YELOW you should be cautious or RED for a slap in the head warning that you are binge drinking.
Binge drinking...there I said it out loud.
There were way to many days that were RED on my monthly calenders. I thought since I had more non drinking days since Jan 1st I was doing pretty good. But as it turns out I was binge drinking.
That is not good because it was not very long ago in years that I was not drinking at all, not a drop. Becoming comfortable around heavy drinkers while out having fun may have sparked it. But that is no excuse and I won't blame anyone.
Happy Anniversary Jen. And for everyone traveling to far and wonderful places....ENJOY!8 -

Love your self-reflection and honesty. Thanks for sharing this app.
Before Jan. 1st, I was a binger - more was better and I kept pouring one more drink.
And it was on weekends only, and then I started to drink one drink in the evenings, and then that turned into many drinks in an evening... and then I became a binger.
We are all on our own journey to see what works for us. So happy to be sharing it with you. Xo

About a week from now, I will be sailing in the ocean, and I dont think there will be no drinking. I plan to drink on my grand adventure....but this process has helped me learn to moderate and say no.7

Hello friends, it's been a while since I've been here, i havent had to much positive to share with u. My last splash out seen to have got me all out of wa9ck.
Ive found a alcohol app ( 4.9 start rating) so im going that a whirl. I say t, now i have lost my want for extra. A mouthful seems to b enough to settle the crave/ desire. Im still keeping my goal for 1 std drink a week.
Atb for everyone on their journeys..
