I'm a day late but I'm in again too. I just got back from spring break where I actually exercised a ton. But I also fell into thinking I was relaxing and drinking every night for 5 days in row. Ugh, and now looking back it wasn't worth the crap I felt in the morning. I had such a good month of March with limited drinking on the weekends. This trip has reminded me, get back into the routine of not drinking. I was enjoying loosing weight, I don't want to put any of it back on. Thanks for the group moving onto April. I've moved a couple of hills since following this group, time to go for a mountain!6

@kpk54 - yes, love that quote and all the other inspirational quotes/videos etc. here. SO helpful. I'm finding support pops up in the most interesting places. I was talking to a tech guy at my company who I haven't talked to in about a year, and we got to talked about some health challenges he's had. He's trying to follow the Mark Hyman eating plan (I did his detox a couple of years ago and it was tough) and also shared that he'd stopped drinking 15 years ago. He did go to AA, but doesn't anymore and has been AF all this time. He's proud of that, and should be. We all should be for dealing with our alcohol issues however we think best. Really motivating talking to him.7

I’m in Mexico!! Hard to resist the margaritas and Coronas but trying to moderate. I brought some Pukka tea bags and I’ve been cold brewing them and drinking the tea by the pool and it’s been great! Highly recommend. I have the vanilla chamomile one and it’s great cold.8

Thanks Julie. You are right, I WILL be successful. I think I finally feel like I am at the point where I want to be sober more than I want to be able to drink. I feel like the past couple of months participating in this "challenge" were all part of the process of getting to that point.
I have a mini vacation coming up towards the end of the month. We will be going to Charleston for a music festival. I haven't decided how I will handle that yet. I am planning to play it by ear. But until then, I am feeling pretty determined to remain alcohol free. We also have an anniversary party coming up this weekend. My husband asked how I was going to handle that. I told him I would be the DD. I thought he might laugh and say "yeah, right", but he said "Good. We won't need to Uber". I think he knows that I am finally getting more serious about this too.
On a side note, you all reminded me that I have a 20% off coupon for David's Tea, which is in a boutique mall on my way home from work. I think I will stop on my way home. It always feels like a nice little indulgence to come out of there with great smelling tea in a pretty little package. I think the conversation about wine and other adult beverages being so prevalent in marketing, social media and society in general is so important. We are being conditioned to think that alcohol is an indulgence that we "earned" by putting up with the BS that is just a part of every day life. What a horrible message and a horrible mind set. I think people are starting to recognize this. I hope it leads to a trend in the opposite direction soon.5 -

Many of you inspire me! I learn so much from you.
One thing, I am trying to do is to see myself as a non-drinker. Not a person with an addiction or addictive personality. I used to dread knowing I was going out to the bars on weekends, because all week I would pray and negotiate with myself how much I'll drink. It was causing me anxiety to think that I was going to have a bad hangover on the weekend. Now, it's easier for me to not even think about how much, because I'm a non-drinker.
My next drink will probably be first weekend in May at a girls getaway. It's something to look forward to. I like viewing myself as someone who drinks only a few times a year. All in the mindset.
Later today, my daughter and I are going to two teahouses in the city. I'm looking forward to sipping tea and just chatting with her. I asked her if we should bring something to read or work on, and she said that will depend on the place's vibe. Wise girl.8 -
I'm in as well. My goal will be to not drink during the work week and only have a few on the weekends. I have a lot of social things happening this month. I may then try to go completely dry in May.7

I mark an X on my calendar on my AF days. I aim for at least 2 days a week - it's a visual I can look at to see where I am on any given day. Sometimes I falter and go 3-4 days the following week.
I do this too! I was AF 18 out of 31 days in March, aiming higher for April! Also, I wish I loved tea the way some of you do, I just find it boring3 -

I also found tea boring until I started treating it as a ritual. Buying good quality tea. Steeping tea. Having a pretty cup. Now, it's a decent substitution for my evening drink instead of wine.5 -
I love trying different sparkling waters and tea too. Often, it's just the act of having something in your hand that helps stop the cravings.4

I didn't have a drink throughout the month of March, and I'm now onto a dry April.
However, I did have a deathly flu and laryngitis that I'm still recovering from, 3 weeks later. I was too ill to drink coffee, so I'm happy to say I've given up caffeine entirely, and I'm very pleased with the lessened anxiety and jitters. In its place I've started drinking Rooibos tea by the pot. I also love ginger tea, and Bengal Spice.
It's worrisome how much fitness I've lost, but I'll just have to tackle that once I'm well.

I am with you, I don’t get the tea thing at all. And for something I dont get it seems like a waste to spend money buying a bunch of it hoping I do like one. I LOVE coffee but I cant have that at night or I will never sleep. It’s basically just water for me on my days I dont drink2 -
Just dropped off my company at the airport this morning. Made it through lent AF... Really proud of myself; I was scared I might not make it. Honestly, I would probably still be AF, but I felt guilty for my hubby. He was very supportive for lent, but I felt like I was ruining his holiday by not joining him. He never said anything, just a feeling I felt. So I had a Mimosa with him and milked it as long as I could before I had another. In the passed we had no problem polishing off a bottle. I quickly switched back to coffee after my second flute because I was really starting to feel buzzed. Made me feel better, but I think he was a little surprised I did that. Ugh and what's really weird too is everyone who supported me through lent can't wait for me to get my drink on with them... And I have no desire to do that. I don't think hubby or friends see that this is more then lent to me ... It makes me a little nervous where this is going.5

Maybe you weren't clear about it with them and so they think that YOU can't wait to get your drink on now that lent is over? I really don't know, just a possible thought. At any rate, congrats on making it through 40 days. I am sure you can keep it going!2 -

Good for you! It is a tough choice and dealing with the people around you is not easy. If quitting feels right to you then just do it. It is so much better for your health. You don't need to explain to people any more than that. As far as your husband goes...he may just get on the bandwagon with you if he sees you not drinking. Mine did.
I read a book called This Naked Mind by Annie Grace...Totally changed how I think about alcohol. It would be a good read for you too from based on what you have said.

I like Alpine spiced apple cider. Pre-mixed packets, just add hot water. I also add cinnamon. They are only 90 calories. Just a thought cuz water gets boring.1 -
Honestly just watching ANOTHER shooting at a work place (today it's You Tube) is making me not only want to drink but get drunk. My daughter works at Google and it could easily have been there. I am so sick of this *kitten*. Thank you for letting me vent.8

Dang! April 3 and already 8 pages!! Just checked out of the March thread...Had 12 AF days. Didn't quite meet my goal but had a bit of progress.
Moving on to April...I really want to be AF. So that's my goal starting yesterday. I did drink on Sunday because I was at a horse show, and, well why not? LOL! I just can't moderate. One day leads to 5. Even if it is just a glass or two. I don't get drunk (only on a very rare occasion). Anyway..day 2 of being awesome!!4 -

i caved and went ahead and bought my weekly bottle of vino today, but i've stuck to my 2-glass limit and now the rest is out of sight, out of mind- at least until Friday night.
To keep myself occupied I also picked up a pint of no-sugar-added blue bell ice cream, (seriously, it's 100x better than halo top, for all you non-southerners who've never had it!) and I downloaded a brand new book of poems by one of my favorite writers. I think that'll be enough to keep me busy and away from the sauce tonight.
