KETO + Dairy = I approve, do you?

So I know it's like a controversial topic to eat dairy on keto and that it's bad for you. But I have never felt unwell, less energetic or lost less fat including different cheese in my diet. I think some are more sensitive to dairy than others. What do you guys think? Anyone else loading on cheese especially when trying to hit the last macros of the day

What do you mean by bad for you, and are you eating keto, why?2

I've read a lot online and watched videos on how everyone is saying having cheese and dairy is not a clean keto because it has components which don't go well with our bodies as biologically we aren't meant to be consuming animal milk etc. and the hard core keto doers (from what I've read and seen) always go on and one about how u have to exclude cheese and dairy if u want to do proper keto and have a healthy lifestyle and fatloss13

I am doing keto I love the high fat low carb it fits in with what I love to eat and I am in the journey of losing fat and becoming more healthy2

Sounds like you're doing great. Just stay away from those crap articles and videos.14

As long as it helps you stay within calories and you aren't lactose intolerant (which means you ARE meant to consume dairy), it shouldn't matter what others say. Keto away with all the cheese you want and leave the minutia to those who like to make things unnecessarily harder for themselves.7

I think the combo is fine; I do keto, as well, and often include dairy. I have found in the past year that I lose more quickly without it, but I don't enjoy the lifestyle as much, so it's a fair trade, in my opinion.1

Where did you get this idea? What are we meant to be consuming biologically? Birds eat dairy, and they're not raised on milk like human infants.

Avoid dairy if you’re lactose intolerant or something like that, but otherwise no need to avoid.4

Thank you!! I definitely will stay away from those in the future5 -

Never heard that. Butter and cheese and full fat dairy has always seemed to be popular among those doing keto unless they had totally separate reasons to avoid it, IME.
Good source for information about keto: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/394-low-carber-daily-forum-the-lcd-group7 -

Yeah I can see how that would be but I wouldn't cope long term without it either. I have an unhealthy obsession with cheese hahaa0 -
Cheese is really “Gouda” for you if you are looking for a fat source in Keto.5

Whatever happened to eat at a caloric deficit, get your micronutrients and still eat the stuff you love without having to follow what another person says on his or her video? Alot of nutrional information out there is pure garbage. If you love dairy, eat your dairy. If your diet prevents you from eating your favorite foods and you feel miserable about it, why are you still on that diet?12

So long as you're not consuming so much dairy that the lactose is kicking you out of ketosis, why not?0

Wow some comments on here and my other post about bulletproof coffee were helpful, nice and interesting different opinions. Others are plainly executed with attitude trying to declare one dumb. Don't think this MFP community is for me geez. And all this "woo" button none sense. I'm better off just using the app for my calories and macros and exclude the social. maybe this should be expected but not enjoying the start of this mfp community bizniz12

I started eating a bunch of dairy when I went keto and I had to give it up. It was giving me terrible acid reflux- Throwing up in the middle of the night acid reflux. Then I went though a really weird withdrawal experience similar to my relative’s opioid withdrawal. I later found out dairy has opioid like compounds that are concentrated in cheese. I never want to go through that withdrawal again so I quit dairy.11

I'm lactose intolerant so I had to stop eating dairy. I have also been through opioid withdrawal (no I am not an addict. I was on dilaudid for a few months so I was dependent. I'm a chronic pain patient). I would never ever compare the two. Not even close. I thought I was dying. I was shaking and jerking for a week. My whole body was in agony. It was pure hell. I've never ever seen anyone hospitalized because of cheese withdrawal.
You know out bodies also produce our own opioid like compounds too? I guess we are addicted to ourselves.3 -

I don't know... I don't think there are any real rules to keto except don't eat very many carbs.
I've been keto a few years. The only reason I see to limit dairy is due to a health reason like lactose intolerance or a milk protein sensitivity, OR you can't moderate your dairy well and tend to overeat in it.
Do whatever works best for you.0 -
You're really not supposed to have milk on keto! You can still have dairy cheeses, because cheese is the fat from milk without all the natural sugars from milk! I'm strictly keto and enjoy cheese to keep my fat intake up!!!7

Untrue. The only limitation to keto is total carba as in how it affects ketosis. In general terms its less than 50g.2 -
Have lost 47 lbs in 78 days on keto combined with intermittent fasting. I've been eating cheeses the whole time and haven't had any issues with it effecting ketosis. There's an Italian deli that imports all kinds of amazing cheeses near where I live. I shop there regularly to grab all kinds of delicious cheeses and meats. Be creative with your dishes to keep things interesting and learn what your body likes and reacts well with on keto. We are all different so figuring out how to dial in what works best for you is one of the most important things you can do.1

I think that's what she meant. Milk has a fair bit of carbs from lactose. Not many keto'ers will drink milk. Cheese and butter and cream are another matter.1
