“New” Arnold Sandwich Thins = 50% increase in calories. Jerks.

I’m really annoyed, I picked up a package of Arnold Samdwich thins and noticed as I went to make my daily sandwich that their “new recipe” puts the calories up from 100 to 150.
These have been a staple of my healthy eating plan for YEARS. And now I won’t be buying any more. I went on the Arnold’s website and complained, but that won’t do anything.
Oh well, anyone got any other good bread product recommendations for 2 pieces for around 100 calories?
Dammit.

Oh, and where there used to be eight per package, there are now six. Guess that’s the end of my buying anything from Arnold’s breads. Which is a shame because with a family of 4, we buy a LOT of bread. Most of it Arnold’s.4

While I understand your disllusionment with how these fit your goals, you are going to boycott their whole product line because they changed the weight of a serving of one product?
100x8=150x6 did you expect them to give you more for free?19 -
I buy this bread sometimes: https://www.auntmillies.com/products/breads/523
It has 100 calories for two slices and it tastes like any other bread to me!2 -
OMG! I saw the new packaging and almost picked one up. I used to love them because only 100 calories. Disappointing to know they changed the calories...
I understand why you are also upset about decrease in thins per container. One package used to last me a whole week, now by increasing the weight and decreasing the amount of servings per container I would have to spend more money per week.1 -
I'm a fan of Nature's Own Double Fiber wheat bread. It's 100 calories for 2 slices. Also, the light Thomas' english muffins are tasty.7

There are plenty of breads that are <100 calories for two slices, but sandwich thins are a lot different from bread. They are more like a bun. I really like trader joe brand whole wheat hamburger buns (110 cal) and sandwich things (100 cal).0 -
Aldi's Sandwich Skinnys, 90 calories. Aldi's L'oven Fresh 100% Whole Wheat Bread, 50 cal./slice.5
-
They prob were wrong about the cals initially lol. My favorite low cal bread products are Joseph’s flatbreads, alternative pitas and bagels, and natures harvest 40 cal bread, and also tortillas factory’s low carb tortillas7

If you like wraps, lavish wraps are 120 calories and very filling as a sandwich - however they are higher sodium0
-
Well you're still getting the same amount of ingredients, they changed the size (up) and that means more calories. You're not getting gypped.
With that said, store brand breads are about that - what about Sara Lee low cal slices? I think they're 100 for two.
150 is a very reasonable calorie amount for a serving of bread.4 -
I actually like the 150 calorie versions. They are a little more stable to work with and less fall-apart-ish. I used one as a bun a few times last week for a turkey burger and a salmon burger. I can see how working in that extra 50 calories could be tough, but honestly, it's worth a few extra steps for it. It's a quality sandwich thin.11

I use Aunt Millie's wholegrain at 35 calories per slice. It think it's less because each slice is a touch thinner but you can find it at any grocery store. It toasts up a little stiff. I like it best untoasted for sandwiches.0

150 calories might not be terribly high for a bread serving, but for roughly that amount of calories, there are a lot of tastier options. I feel the OP's pain.
Walmart Wheat Bolillo rolls are 160.
Martin's Potato Roll hamburger buns are 140.
Small kaiser rolls with sesame seeds are 130-170 depending on the source.
Pepperidge Farm has a yummy oatmeal bread for 80 calories a slice.3 -
yeah and I love dave's killer breads- wish they had a bun or sandwich thin version- but dave's has some 60 calorie per slice, and raisin bread is 90 cal per slice.- quite good4
-
At 150 calories they're not really a low calorie alternative, are they? Regular sandwich bread is usually only 160 calories for two slices.1
-
I thought I was the only one who got so bummed out by this change! I used these a LOT and now I won't be buying the new ones. I think instead I bought Arnold's pita pockets, it's 100 cals for a pocket (which is half a pita).0
-
Yeah, I was more pissed off at the packaging - as someone else stated, now there's 6 to a box instead of 8.0
-
There are other sandwich thin brands. Brownberry for one with 90-100 calories depending on the flavor.
Most of the bread companies also have "light" sliced bread which is about 45 calories per slice.
I sometimes opt for a bread I really like and have my sandwich open faced, which lessens the calories.0 -

45 cals per slice, high fiber.1 -
I am so disappointed to hear this, we really liked the sandwich thins, and I only have one more pack in the freezer. Thank you Noreenmarie1234 for the tip, I'll have to try Trader Joes options this weekend, I absolutely agree that the thins serve a different purpose (at least in my house) than regular bread does.1

If you want an actual bun, buy a regular bag of buns and scoop out the fluff from the top part and the bottom part. You can do the same thing with sandwich rolls (like the kind Subway or Potbelly uses) and you can usually cut out 1/3 of the calories. Weigh the bread before, scoop out, and then weigh it after to figure out what the new calories are.14

Seconding the Aldi versions.... we also like FlatOut Foldits, they are really good and ~110 cals0

That's my thought too... they realized that the calories were higher than what they said. Did you weigh them before the packaging change? Often those '40 or 100 calorie' slices are actually heavier in the first place.0 -

I don't know about the previous version, but you could be on to something. I've weighed them at the new calorie count and they come in spot-on to the gram now. I wonder if they were somewhere in between so they reformulated slightly to come in more consistently. Who knows. For me the 50 calories isn't a big deal, but I can see for some how it might be...but they might have been eating between 100-150 anyway if they were weighing it.0 -
I’ve used bagel thins in the past for sandwiches. Clock in at 100 calories. Or Sara Lee delightful multigrain bread is 45 calories per slice0
-
I was so happy to find all these comments about the change in the Arnold's sandwich thins! I've been eating them for years as my go to sandwich for lunch. I know 50 calories isn't huge, but a turkey sandwich is not worth 50 extra calories! I'm so so disappointed and have been searching for a new option. Glad to see all these recommendations on here to try out. I love Aldi so I think I'll give theirs a try first.0
-
I used to eat those a while ago, but now my go to is the thin sliced Dave's Killer Bread. The one I bought this week is only 60 cal a slice (some are 70) and I love the seeds/texture.3
-
Super annoying, even though I just ate one today. They are bigger and thicker, but still. They taste the same. I bought them to try, but I'm going to go back to my low-call bread.0

If they now come with 6 instead of 8, my guess is they made them bigger.2
