I use that for pretty much everything...not just Splenda. But, carbs are bad, sugar is bad, eggs are bad, fat makes you fat, lifting makes women bulky...like the research thing works on all those topics.
I wish. Since this goes with the thread at hand, a brief summary of a conversation that I had about a month ago - which I've described on MFP before:
Had a Diet Dr. Thunder at work. One of the guys tried telling me that artificial sweeteners spiked insulin as much as sugar. I told him that was incorrect and even if it was, so what? We then had a sometimes heated discussion regarding insulin, Calories, and weight management. When I pointed him in the direction of the research, he responded, "I don't care about the research." OK, then - I'm not gonna waste any more of my time with someone that wants to be willfully ignorant.16 -
JeromeBarry1’s comment literally made me LOL. And now I’m practicing this phrase with a James Bond Eastern European super villain type accent. Please god let someone give me the opportunity to use it...JeromeBarry1 wrote: »Be polite and have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
When a disturbing event such as OP's happens, smile and say, "I have plan to kill you".
This works better if you can pull off a Russian accent.

I just had the mental image of the Russian Blue from Cats & Dogs: From Russia, with love. Stealth poop.4 -
I once had a cashier remark about my Diet Pepsi. She said, "you know these actually make people gain weight.". I said, "how, when they have no calories?" And she said, "I dunno. Something about your brain." I'm thinking, if your brain controlled your weight, I'd have reached my goal two years ago.22

My husband likes coffee mate powder creamer. I buy the big containers when I go. A very fit looking woman saw me grab it and said "that is going to make you gain a ton of weight." I told her I drink it black, this is for my kids. She legit gave me the elevator eyes, scoffed, and walked away, lol.25

LOL.
I saw a functional medicine doc for a thyroid issue. He proceeded to tell me the same thing -- that artificial sweeteners provoked an insulin response, and that's why I had gained weight, and that cutting it out would help me lose 20 pounds.
I sat there thinking, "Buddy. I'm type 1 diabetic. Nothing is provoking an insulin response over here."32 -
Not with food, but every time a co-worker or client finds out I ride my bike to work they say, "YOU ARE GOING TO DIE!" and then proceed to tell me a story about someone who died on a bike. I wouldn't bother me so much if it wasn't so frequent. The advantage of it happening all the time is I get to play around with different comebacks, but I haven't found a favorite yet. Mostly I'm just baffled that people think they are being helpful by announcing my mortality.13

I had a coworker stop me midpour when I was adding a little powdered coffee mate to my coffee. She said if I was serious about losing weight I should stay away from that stuff.
I told her it hadn’t stopped me from losing 100+ lbs so far and walked away. Like seriously?????17 -
I can't wait until someone does this to me. I will stare them straight in the eyes and ask for sources.5

That might have something to do with the theory that you can kill ants using Splenda because something about the shape of the granules literally "tears them apart". Supposedly.
I have nothing to back up this claim, because I couldn't find the site I read that on a few months ago...
With regard to the OP, I can't fathom confronting a stranger about their food choices! I might think uncomplimentary thoughts about their shopping cart or whatever, but I would never comment. And I'd be in the same camp as some of you if someone did it to me - standing in surprised silence trying to think of a good comeback!
Now I have to find a bunch of ants and experiment...
I'll ship mine to you.3 -

I once had a professional athlete comment on the Coke Zero I was drinking, saying I shouldn't drink that "processed chemical-filled crap".
The kicker is that he was slamming a Red Bull at the time.
I said nothing.28 -

"Why - do you aim for bike riders accidentally or purposely?"

My mom told me I would become fat again if I continued to eat cookies every day (2 cookies, 150 calories total). She would not believe me when I told her I eat cookies or something sweet almost every single day. Then went in to a rant about my body hanging on to fat because I ate cookies. I asked her if the fat I lost was in hiding and waiting for the cookies to invite it back!23 -

I didn't have much else to contribute. You just have to promise to not ship them back. I'll even pay the post.5 -

I use 2tbs of Splenda each morning in my tea. Thats all I use. I use it because I want that extra 90 or 100+ calories for something else instead of sugar.
Tablespoons? Are you making a gallon of tea at a time?
Tablets?3 -
I would have said B.i.t.c.h mind your own business!6

You should have just said "Thanks Mom, I'll keep that in mind."

I would say that I am properly fueled if someone tries to pry my splenda bag out of my hands4

I had a similar situation at work. I was eating a small bag of chips and my coworker said, "that's not a good choice". I just looked straight at him and shoved a handful in my face. I had already lost 70 lbs at that point. I think my choices were pretty good.19 -
Late to the party. Back in my rebel kid days, when I smoked, I was out on a break having a cigarette and a rando nurse I'd never seen before said "those things will kill you" as she walked by.
I dropped my jaw to the ground and threw my cigarette on the ground, dramatically stomping it out. "WHAT?!? NO! WHY HAS NO ONE TOLD ME IN THE 12 YEARS OF EDUCATION I WAS FORCED TO SUFFER THROUGH THAT THESE WILL KILL ME! I ONLY KNEW THAT THE COOL KIDS DID!" and on and on with the hysterics until she realized I was being a jerk and walked away.24 -
I was in a Panera getting breakfast once and opted for a Diet Coke to go with my egg sandwich. The elderly woman next to me said, "Soda?!? For breakfast?!?" She was shocked, I tell you. Shocked!
LOL. I've ordered soda for breakfast for decades for my caffeine fix. I hated coffee. So, I got used to the comments and weird looks. I simply responded that I hated coffee. Although, I like coffee now, so I'll have to think up a different comeback...

I always use my old fav scrubs adage when someone says something rude/out of turn to me:

I used to drink a 2 liter of Mt. Dew Code Red a day when I was much larger. I will take my chances with diet soda vs diabetes in a bottle. 1 gram of carb in 20 oz diet mt dew, 77 grams 290 cals in a regular Mt. Dew. Just saying10
