well guess what. I had a colonoscopy a few weeks ago and cleansed everything out of my colon and the dr cleansed out anything the colon cleanse did not. still have allergies. still have digestive issues. food allergies doesnt cause foods to not \ be digested. they are still digested just your body reacts to them differently which can result in skin rash, stomach pain,cramps,diarrhea,etc.23

I don't even have a colon and still have allergies.33 -
And what is an "inherited allergy". The only one that is genetically inherited would be celiac sprue.9

Thank you! The ingredients you mention are on the infographic and I actually discussed going on a green smoothie detox with my naturopath who stated it has a lot of health benefits including weight loss.
A naturopath would say that. They have no actual training in nutrition or medicine that actually works. I'm surprised your naturopath isn't selling them to you directly, to be honest. Also you'll gain any weight back when you go back to eating food again, since you'll be putting mass back into your body.
The focus is not weight loss. My question is regarding making it fresh or go for store bought brand.
And you're trusting a pretend doctor for advice. You have a built-in detox system that's running optimally - if it wasn't, you'd be in the emergency room. It's literally not going to do anything for you, and if it's getting nutrients that you want, why not eat the whole food which your body is built to break down and use, instead of liquids where half the good stuff is already tossed out and the rest won't get as absorbed fully into your system as it would if you actually ate the fruit and veg?
How do you know I have a detox system that is running optimally?
How do you know you do not?
Test results. Certain foods has effected my digestion. So it is not operating optimally. My question is about fresh or what healthy brand to recommend.
Food allergies? You cheated on your diet and this caused built up allergens? The doctor did not give you medical attention/medication? He/she recommended smoothies?
Please answer the question indicated in the subject of the post. This is not about my medical status that is what doctors are for. Nor am I here to explain my entire program that I need to adhere to, that is between me and my doctor.
Have you asked an actual dr or are you just referring to your naturopath? I have multiple very severe digestive diseases and smoothies do absolutely nothing to help digestion.
Both and I have a digestive issue due to allergies and have been put on a program to address it. Not getting into what that entails my question was only about fresh green smoothies or a recommendation from people on this platform who drink a healthy store bought brand and their experience with a specific brand.
if you have food allergies that cause digestion issues the only thing you can do is avoid those foods causing the issues. there is no food, smoothie, etc going to change allergies. I have a lot of allergies. a few food allergies/intolerances and avoiding those things is the only thing that works. greens are health when it comes to certain vitamins but its not going to clean any allergens out,its not going to cure anything either.
I also have digestive issues I have to see a gastroenterologist every 6 months. I have to avoid or limit the foods that cause me issues. if you want to know what goes into something you make your own. but its not going to change your digestion, its not going to clear up digestion or allergy issues. it may make you use the bathroom more if it has a lot of fiber in it. sometimes my allergies are so bad that I need meds to control them as well.
in fact certain foods are in the same families as others and those can cause allergies as well. many people allergic to almonds are allergic to peaches or vice versa but its not always the case. people allergic to latex can be allergic to bananas, people allergic to shellfish are often allergic to iodine.
I never been on meds for allergies. I have inherited allergies for life. I developed some additional allergies, however. The last time I addressed the later, I went to a doctor who specializes in allergies and yes I also have a naturopath.
The doctor who specializes in allergies did extensive testing. I avoided the foods I was reacting to. Then I was put on a program to cleanse the gut with fresh foods. I got rid of the developed allergies.
Now I am dealing with this again as I developed an allergy to a new food I was not reacting to, as I cheated on my diet.
When you have allergies it affects your gut health.
In my case they recommended avoiding the food I was reacting to, eating tons of foods filled with fiber to cleanse the gut and lots of drink water, fresh green juices and green smoothies as vegetable and fruits cleanse the gut along with omega 3's.
I decided I am sticking to what the doctor recommended sticking with fresh ingredients as my past results and his success rate speaks volumes.27 -
Please give us the name of this medical doctor, because I'd love to look him/her up.7

Stop eating those foods. Things will get back to normal after you stop ingesting them.
That is step 1. Step 2 is to get rid of the allergens built up in the body, hence tons of greens, vegetables, some fruits, healthy fats and protein as per doctor orders based on my situation.
You have to get rid of the built up allergens which is toxins and someone with allergies will not recover until you get rid of the built up.
Who has explained allergies to you because they are not comprehending how the body works. Allergens don't build up in your body and a smoothie will not eliminate them. Its actually insulting to people who have true food allergies the way you think the body reacts in response to an allergy.
When you have food allergies, your body can't digest foods you are allergic to very well. It builds up in the colon. When you cleanse the built up, the allergy you developed is resolved.

Woo aside, isn't a detox drink diet a form of VCLD, which it's against the rules to advocate on the site? Or am I wrong that "detoxing" involves exclusively consuming a drink for the period concerned?4

Are you on dialysis? Are any of your organs failing? If you don't have actual concerns with your liver or kidneys, your system is running fine. And anything that is actually accumulating in your body like heavy metals would need specific chelation therapy, not green drinks.

Green smoothies just like green juices is filled with healthy vitamins and nutrients. A little weird how people would think consuming a beverage with healthy ingredients is worthless. But your right its your opinion.
Why do you think consuming those ingredients as a smoothie (or only smoothies) is healthier than including them in whole form in your diet?
Green juice is harmless, but I think removing the fiber is generally not a great idea for most people (there are exceptions, and it mostly depends on whether you keep them low cal or not and what else you eat).
My regular diet consist of whole fresh foods with tons of fiber. I drink lots of water with fresh juices and will add green smoothie this week. Green smoothies consist of tons of fiber from fruits, vegetables, chia or flaxseeds and omega 3 oils.8 -

I'm guessing the naturopath. I can't see a real doctor with a real degree dispensing this kind of information.
Wrong doctor who specializes in allergies and who helped me get rid of allergies I developed in the past.
There are doctors out there who do more than just prescribing a pill. There are doctors who are interested in healing.17 -

if you developed an allergy and dont have it now its because you eliminated said food. and just because it caused issues doesnt mean an allergy it could be an intolerance. but the cleanse did NOT get rid of the allergy avoiding them did. if cleansing the colon got rid of allergies then those of use who have had colonoscopies or those who dont have colons or so on and so forth would NOT have allergies or intolerances to food. fiber just helps things move along and out of the colon. I have also seen allergy doctors and NONE of them suggested a cleanse/detox,etc. where are you finding these quacks? they should have their medical licenses revoked if they even have one.
heres an idea. how about you do said cleanse, then start eating those foods again and see if they cause you issues. because if the cleanses cured your allergies then those foods should not bother you now. and if this dr is so successful then were are his studies, his accreditations, who is he? we should know his name or at least heard of him if his results produce such great results. he should be getting notoriety from medical journals and so on. yet I cant find any proof of what you are claiming is happening, cant find proof that allergens build up in your colon, and so on. hmmmm9 -

no....just. No.
You cannot poop away an allergy.
if only it were that easy. it would be great if it were possible11 -
When you have food intolerances and can't digest certain foods very well they do NOT build up in the colon. If anything they tend to shoot right through. Also, if you swallow bubblegum it doesn't remain in your stomach seven years. Good grief.16

Allergies occur when the body becomes sensitized to a particular molecule. They are never cured by colon cleansing. This advice is potentially fatal.
The only thing a detox diet ever cured was an imaginary problem. Some people do have those. However, in your case, since you are still using this doctor, it's false that he cured your problems, because if he had, you wouldn't still be doing this.17 -

Green smoothies consist of tons of fiber from fruits, vegetables, chia or flaxseeds and omega 3 oils.
So you are now saying you are adding green smoothies to your normal diet? That wasn't the original premise, as a "detox" or "cleanse" is normally only consuming the thing (also bunk).
Of course, as I said upthread, I enjoy smoothies and make them a few times a week for breakfast (or occasionally dinner instead if I get home super late and don't want anything else/am too tired to cook). I see no harm in a tasty, balanced smoothie as a meal. You just seem to think there's some magical property that smoothies provide, and that's not true. How do you think the ingredients in the smoothie transform by being eaten in a smoothie vs. some other manner?
As for what is in a green smoothie, it obviously depends on what you put in it. Your "infographic" is hardly the be-all, end-all, and given that you were going to buy some premade one at the beginning of this thread (which have a wide range of ingredients), let's not pretend that all smoothies have "tons of fiber from fruits, vegetables, etc."
I actually think it would be weird to add an omega 3 oil to a smoothie (what is that exactly? a crushed up fish oil pill? also, btw, what most people need to get for omega 3 is EPA and DHA, not merely ALA, which is all you get from flax and chia seeds -- I think they are nice additions, but don't think they are super as a source of omega 3).
Anyway, the fiber is smoothies is fine, the same as whatever the ingredients you add (which varies a lot), and the ingredients I add are all things I'd eat anyway, which was my point. It's juice that removes the fiber so isn't all that (although it's tasty and not harmful, except in excess, I just prefer whole foods).4 -

Physician, heal thyself.
And I mean REAL physician10 -
Seriously, how does consuming a green smoothie (which has a huge variety of different ingredients) heal allergies?
I'd like to understand how this is supposed to work.
I'm allergic to bee stings, does it work for that? And if not, why not? Why would it be different?6 -

healthy nutrition is one thing. claiming that it can cure and get rid of allergies and other build of of toxins in your body is another. what you are claiming is literal horse poo. the drs you are seeing claiming this is real need to go back to school, better yet they need to lose their licenses as colon cleansing should only be done for certain reasons and allergies are NOT one of them.if you develop allergies its not because you heal them with a detox. its because you eliminate the food and prevent the triggers that causes the allergy. what part of these things do you not understand? you are saying we arent into nutrition. no we are we just arent into woo and horse poo fake "cures"6 -

Are you on dialysis? Are any of your organs failing? If you don't have actual concerns with your liver or kidneys, your system is running fine. And anything that is actually accumulating in your body like heavy metals would need specific chelation therapy, not green drinks.
Stick to the question.
Please understand, this is an open forum and many come here via Google or other paths and may come across your post.
To that end, it is important to respond to the ideas and concepts brought up by your post, as opposed to to a simple response, or no response, based on what you are looking for.
So, you do not have the ability, nor should you, to limit the responses in the thread to just what you want them to be.
It's important to point out the uselessness of the detox smoothies so the next person wondering about them has some useful information, like that they are a waste of time and money.
So, take what you want from this thread but understand it's not all about you.
Green smoothies just like green juices is filled with healthy vitamins and nutrients. A little weird how people would think consuming a beverage with healthy ingredients is worthless. But your right its your opinion.
But, no protein and no fats. So, as a diet it is missing out on 2 or the three macros. And it does nothing to "detox".
As with all the usual advice here, eat a balanced diet with an appropriate number of calories for your activity and weight loss goals and you will be much further ahead long term than with just smoothies. Now, adding a smoothie is not a bad thing, in moderation. But it is neither a complete diet nor will it detox anything.
Green smoothies have protein and fats and healthy ingredients are good for your body. Green smoothies consist of greens, some fruits, superfoods if you want, protein and healthy fats.
I try to have green juice at least once a week. Its good for you.
I am only going on a 5 day green smoothie diet (looks like I should not have used the word detox) related to my allergies and the doctors knows how to address my allergies when it flairs up.
Let’s put it in the simplest terms possible - you’re being sold a load of crap by a quack. The only thing green smoothies are going to detox or cure is some cash from your wallet.
But it sounds like you’re a True Believer, since you won’t listen to what a lot of knowledgeable people are telling you. So good luck with your smoothie “detox”.
[ETA:] I'd gladly post links to actual science showing that "detoxes" are worthless and do nothing for your health. But I have a feeling it would be a complete waste of time in this case.27 -
Unfortunately when I google detox for allergies there are all kinds of blogs and naturopathic "remedies" out there. This is quite dangerous information considering someone who is naive to how the human body works would actually believe this because some "doctor" (Hyman comes up a few times) pushes this crap and people buy it because they are looking for a miracle. If it were all this simple the allergist (MD/DO) would be advising this for their patients, but they aren't. Some people will out grow them, but the majority do not and for them it is strict avoidance of the allergen.
If you want to drink your green smoothie for a way to get more vitamins and antioxidants from foods then drink up, but they aren't going to cure anything.9 -

That's not how the digestive system works.17 -

I came across a treatment that is just as effective as a green smoothie, and much less expensive. In fact, it's completely free.
Just repeat after me:
