Thank you, Barbie
I just checked my starting weight for May 1 and blew myself away I've lost 8 lbs this month. That's two pounds a week, which is what I have my MFP food diary set to. So I've totally cut out the late night snacking, no cheating with "just one bites" no "sneak" eating when Jack is in bed or out of the house. I added walking everyday in addition to my routine kettle bell workout and it shows. I'm now two pounds from my lowest weight at the bariatric surgeon's office and 6 pounds from the lowest I ever weighed on my scale at home. I'm stoked.
My goals for the year have remained the same, focusing on getting back to eating how I know I need to eat for a post bariatric surgery patient and focusing on why I decided to have that major surgery in the first place.

Janetr - Many congratulations on your healthy self!
I spent some of this very early morning looking at travel insurance renewal quotes. Will deal with all that today. Plus got to sort out what time the taxi is picking us up on Tuesday. We've had conflicting info. Grrrrrrrrrr!
Yesterday was so amazing. Bea is really coming on now and is a real trooper. Walks for miles and can cope with almost any situation. Very determined. We went for a walk on the Undercliff at Brighton with scooters in tow. Big puddles from the storms. Great fun, if a bit wet. Then we went to the supermarket for the Pic and Mix. That was an eye opener! (Not our idea, my son was with us) When they hot in the car I was expecting them to wolf the lot, but they were incredibly restrained and only ate a few sweets under strict instructions. Max got a bit tearful as he thought he might have eaten 'a bit too many' and Edie said her level in the pot was 'a bit wonky'!!!!!! But I was most impressed at the restraint. Bea was happy with her allotted two sweets.
In the morning we went to an amazing fish shop on the harbour which has its own boats! Tanks for live crabs and lobsters. This will be walking distance from our proposed new house!
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx13 -
Thanks Barbie!
Yay JanetR!
I've been flying entirely under the radar for a couple weeks. As I mentioned a while ago, I've decided to stop commuting to Stockholm to teach. That meant I was also moving out of the pied-à-terre I've been renting for the past eight years, ever since we sold the big apartment we lived in when the kids were in their teens.
Hoo-boy! Talk about decluttering! A lot of what I had in my little rented room was "stuff" we didn't ship to Norway, but couldn't let go of because we were emotionally attached to it -- things like letters and postcards going back 40+ years, LPs from the mid-1960s and onward, tea towels my husband's grandmother had woven herself and embroidered her initials on, and an 8-by-12-foot braided rug my grandmother made.
My husband was there for a couple days and when he left he had three BIG pieces of luggage, two of which contained the braided rug. I had dismantled it into four pieces, gaining even deeper respect for my dear grandmother in the process. I can't imagine such a tiny woman doing all that work! She cut the strips of cloth, folded and twisted them into 8-foot-long braids, and sewed them all together, linking each loop of each braid to its neighbor. The entire rug weighed about 80 pounds. But as my husband said, she had an ability to persevere to the very end, even if her project took a long time.
There's been some talk about more or less hasty weddings. When that same grandmother first met my husband, she was shocked to discover that we were living together without being married. She didn't like it, but said "That's for the parents to decide" and let us share a room in her house. At the end of the summer, she told my husband she was glad to have met him, but would be happier if we were "a real family".
Over time, she and my husband developed a very close relationship. He sometimes visited New Hampshire for work and would always pay her a call and help out with anything she needed doing. When we got married, it was a small, rushed affair because he was about to do his military service, and nobody from my side of the family could attend. But the following summer my husband brought her back to Sweden after a work trip. It was her first trip outside North America and the first time she'd been on an airplane. My parents also flew over and my mother-in-law gave a repeat performance of the wedding dinner she'd organized for us the first time. So in a way, my family also got to participate in the wedding.
Back to closing up the pied-à-terre... when I left yesterday, I also had three pieces of luggage (two suitcases with wheels and pull-handles, and one big nylon bag) plus a backpack. Total weight about 140 lbs. I always take public transport to the airport (it's the principle of the thing!) which meant I had to walk from the apartment to the subway station and from the subway to the airport express train, total distance maybe half a mile. I slung the nylon bag over my shoulders by its two straps and hung the backpack over my front, leaving two free hands to pull the suitcases with. I must have been quite a sight to behold!
I'm back in northern Norway now, but my luggage didn't make it. I'd planned to go out to our island home, my paradise on earth but I'll have to stay in town until my luggage turns up. The upside of misplaced luggage is that I didn't have to carry it home. It will be delivered, so somebody else gets to carry it up to the fourth floor.
My logging took a hit during my hectic, chaotic stay in Stockholm, and what with the parties, my weight loss hit a plateau. Still, I'm 6 lbs lighter than I was going into May. And am I logging strictly again? You bet!

Morning, afternoon and evening, all...
Lost three pounds in May, not as much as I wanted to, but better than gaining. Started this regimen January 24th, and did see the 25 pounds lost since then mark for one day, and bounced back up again.
Goal for June - lose five pounds.
JanetR - well done, taking eight pounds off! You'll be setting records in no time with your very healthy regimen. So pleased for you--mine seems very far away.
Heather - can't believe we saw pics of Bea shortly after birth--she's gotten so tall! Still hoping with you on the whole house domino sales thing to work out.
Penny - was wondering how things were with you yesterday, knew I hadn't seen you post in a bit. Good to see you, and congrats on the six pounds in May!
Katla - sounds like you and your husband are both excited about the possibilities with the RV. Do you think it could somewhat replace sailing for you? Have you christened your new "boat?"
Rori - you sound happy, healthy and serene. Retirement obviously agrees with you! And yes, Allie's cut and color have me thinking about it as well. If you have contact information for Diane, you might want to reach out to her--she did not get the position she was up for, and also just came back this week from the funeral of a dear aunt. Tough time for her right now, I'm thinking.
Day off today for me. The conference call actually went quite well yesterday. Late summer and fall will be quite busy for work--in Dallas in July, Carlsbad in August, Midland in September and then again in October. Really looking forward to the winter holidays and some downtime, but they seem quite far away.
Speaking of which, had a long talk with my best friend yesterday, who's struggling with health problems and a house crammed full of family at the moment. Her youngest daughter is moving to Hawaii in July, and she's both happy for her and grieving the distance to come, I think. She's also tired of working--and hoping the thyroid medication they've finally got her on will help with the overall exhaustion. She also has similar knee issues to mine, and a husband who's retired, so they need her income. That is pressure of no small proportions.
Plans today are to paint, I think. And maybe go get my hair cut. Other than that, not much.
Love y'all... here's to a happy, healthy June for all of us and those we love,

Managed to sort out the travel insurance and the courtesy car. It was the later pick up time. Phew! Ages on the phone. If we do go to Montreal and Quebec next year for my 70th birthday I will have to extend the insurance as we opted for Europe alone. Canada counts as extra, extra expensive!
Going to make a small start on packing today, just the third suitcase with hiking gear and chilly weather stuff. We are going almost to the Arctic Circle, so might need to wear my new fleece. It could be great weather, but could be not. Who knows!
Penny - love the picture of you as a baggage mule!
Grandchildren running round inside my head. It's like a love affair. Every time I see them I pine for a while.

Good morning all! Happy Friday! Can you believe it is JUNE?! I can't remember my weight in the beginning of May. So I will just start where I am now. I am up from where I was back in March. But I am heading back down the scale. I have decided to go against popular opinion, and have decided to weigh myself daily. So far, it seems to be working. I weighed in on Tuesday at 231.4, Wednesday at 230, Thursday at 229, and today I am at 228.6. I think I need the daily accountability to keep me making the "better choice". I know I will have "heavier" weeks/days; and I am trying to mentally prepare myself for that; BUT...my plan will be to weigh myself daily, log daily, follow my meal plan, walk, and take it one day at a time.
Allie- Your hair look fantastic on you! It really brightens up your face and eyes! My DH always preferred me without make up. I have never worn much make up; and when I was younger had days when I would go without. Now that I have passed some invisible "age" line, I have noticed that if I go without make up, everyone asks if I feel okay. I look either tired or sick. SO...I wear mascara every day. (I am not a lipstick person) Weekends, I go without foundation and blush; but I will ALWAYS put mascara on. It opens up my eyes and makes me look a little "healthier". lol
Heather- Love hearing about your time with the grandchildren! Love, love LOVE the photo of your DH wearing the "spidey-suit" as a cape around his neck! lol
My body is still battling the cold, which seems to be getting better; but has decided to throw in a pinched nerve bc of how I slept, I am assuming. Ugh!

Good morning Ladies -
Thank you Barbie for starting us off again this month!
My May goal was simple. Did I attain it? Kind of. My goal was to learn the maintenance game. I think I have a handle on the mental side, which was what was most concerning to me. I don't have a handle yet on the actual maintaining my weight side. My weight is down almost 5 lbs from the beginning of May. That means I am almost 5 lbs under my maintenance range. I'm working on it. Obviously I know how to gain weight, I wouldn't have started this journey a year ago obese if I didn't. I did gain a 1/2 lb last week, so I'm moving in the right direction again. One of my second Mom's told me over the weekend I had lost too much when I went to visit her. I was not offended that she would say something. She loves me and is (and always has) looked out for me. She mentioned it, we talked about it, and it was done. I told her I knew I had, that I was working on maintaining and it was harder than I thought it would be getting the right mix going to maintain and not lose. She was completely satisfied with my answer.
As for June, I would like to maintain without daily logging and weighing of my food. I don't want to weigh everything I eat forever. If I see that I am gaining steadily (once I am in maintenance range), then I will go back to weighing and logging every bite to get it under control. I will continue to weigh and log for the next 5 days so that I hit 365 days of logging every single morsel that has gone in my mouth for one year.
KJ - I have been weighing daily for quite a while. The fluctuations can be huge for me (3 lbs) depending on what I have eaten the day before. It has become something I chuckle about. It truly doesn't stress me out when I see the weight has gone up. I hope you can reach that point also. You know when it jumps that much that it is water. You can't gain 3 lbs of fat overnight. Well, maybe you can, but I don't see that happening!
Janet - You are killing it with the weight loss! Congrats!!! I hope you are very proud of yourself!!
Heather - Happy Cruising! My fingers are still crossed for your house sale/purchase chain to finally work out. I love hearing your tales of outings with the Grands. I so remember pick a mix with my Grandparents. I only got to pick 1 piece though. Sometimes we would stand there for 5 minutes with me trying to decide which one I wanted and debating the benefit of butterscotch over rootbeer. Where do grands get the patience??
Penny - I hope your bags show up soon so you can make it to the island!
Have a great weekend Ladies! We have no big plans. I got the yard done yesterday so only playtime on the schedule for the weekend.

KJ - well spotted on the spider suit! That was Edie's idea as she couldn't find a cape for him. I know I've said it before, but DH is a world class genius with young children.
Okie - the pic and mix tubs were the size of 'medium' plastic coffee cups. That was the small version! It truly was amazing to see them battling with temptation in the back of the car. I think they did do well. Max is a rule observer and Edie is a rule breaker. I had custody of Bea's tub. It gave us a good opportunity to talk about blood sugar levels and sugar 'rush' and the needs of marathon runners. Max hands out jelly babies at the Brighton Marathon. I love having those kind of 'science info' discussions with the kids.
My big contribution to the day was playing 'Baby Hospital' with Edie while Bea was napping. My favourite game. (I am a would-be doctor  ) We had croup, vomiting, high temperature and a broken leg. DH was drawing robots with Max. I later drew a Doc Bot with him. He was impressed.

Bags just arrived! The delivery person called to double-check my address and that I was at home. I told him yes, and I was on the top floor. When he called half an hour later to tell me he'd arrived, he asked me if I was sure I was right up at the top, as if hoping I'd only been teasing. I confirmed, but said I'd come down and help him. In the end, I carried the smallest bag up the four flights of stairs myself. Still, he was a gorgeous 23-year-old, so it was worth it.
Kelly and Okie - I weigh myself every day too. Like Okie I've learned to roll with the gravimetric ups and downs and never let them shift my mood up or down. For me, it's only the weekly average that counts.
Heather - About science talks - our grandson is fascinated by anything in nature, especially birds. When we've been out for walks at the island place we've found empty ptarmigan eggs, the remains of a hare the eagle had killed, thrush nests, sea urchin shells a hundred meters above sea level (because a gull dropped them there). We talk about those things, then when we get home again, he retells it all to his parents or sister. I'm amazed at his capacity to absorb and hold knowledge! Some time ago, my husband gave him a very special seashell he'd collected on the shore of the Red Sea as a child, over 50 years ago. Before he gave it to our grandson, he explained where he found it, how the mollusc formed its own shell, how it ate and moved around, where it had its deadly poison dart and so on. Months later, when were visiting in Stockholm, the boy brought out the shell and told us about where grampa found it, how it lived, where its poison dart was...
Now I need to go out shopping for groceries and seed potatoes. I may not be on the road for a couple hours yet, but this far north at this time of year, I won't have to drive in the dark regardless of how late it gets.

Thanks Barbie!
I did my last sub job for the year yesterday for a fun Kindergarten class. I went to two retirement party this week and was able to walk away from the treats because I am trying to no longer snack. At the one yesterday her daughter sang her the most beautiful tribute. Gorgeous voice.
Goal for June:
1. Work on getting a good night sleep.(I am starting to see improvement)
2. Three meals a day no snacking.
3. Meals made up of fruits, veggies, protein, a good fat, whole grains (no processed grains ie flour of any kind)
4. Trying to eliminate as much sugar too. It cannot be one of the first three ingredients and no high fructose corn syrup.
5. Continue to walk with walking buddy, attend Zumba and drumming class, and start to exercise in the pool again.
Just completed day 9. I am noticing I am less grouchy even with the heat wave we just had. It does help that I sleep in a room at 67 degrees. We do not have to cool the house down to this temp. Only one room so it helps with the cooling bill.

Up very early for us! Just couldn't sleep in with so much to do. Suddenlink has been and we now have Internet and TV (we cut cord years ago so over the air). Awaiting Haverty's delivery of new couch and ottoman. Chair didn't quite make it so will be delivered on Wednesday. Picking up UHaul at 2pm so will make a few more trips by car b/n now and then. Amazing how quickly unpacking goes...already have half the kitchen set up. Trying to keep cabinets in same places as to not confuse the hubs. lol

Thanks BARBIE for June thread
Nice to have you back PENNY glad your luggage was delivered safely with the added treat of cute 23 year old delivery guy.
I also weigh daily but only seriously consider the weekly weigh in, it helps keep me on the straight and narrow.
We've had gorgeous weather this week in NW England but Birmingham, where my daughter lives had horrendous rain earlier in the week 1 months rain fell in an hour and areas were flooded.
HEATHER it's great when grands are young. mine are now teens and of course I dont see them as much. They still leave their ipads alone and play cards when I'm with them, I miss the family holidays to Centre Parcs and South Wales. Hope you have a lovely cruise and send us lots of pics.
I'm binging on The Good Wife on Amazon Prime only on series 2 but love it
