I have 2 bad knees that need knee replacement and both feet have problems like one had achilles surgery but still hurts. I just try and get as many steps as I can do but mostly work on my diet try to keep calories at or around what im supposed to eat. With your family do what I do a lot of days I eat different from my husband its a little bit of work but it can be done.3

Hi!! I feel like we could be the same person (I am about to be 48 though lol) We can do this!! It may be uphill, but we can!2

Weight loss is possible through diet alone. While "exercise" is great for many reasons, weight loss comes down to calories in V calories out.
I'm also female & 50, with physical disabilities and needing a wheelchair. Spine/pelvis injuries (plus problems with left shoulder and wrist). Heart condition and auto immune disease (Sjogrens), so can understand the difficulties you face.
But I have lost 52lbs by tracking calories, by using mfp as a tool, in the way it was designed. By hitting my calorie target, on a regular basis, commitment, persistence and hard work. I have enough problems, but by doing all that I can, daily logging (no matter what), balancing macros (recommended by my drs), I am taking an active role in managing my conditions, in the best way possible.
Not always an easy journey, but definitely worth while.18 -
I'm not 50! But I have a knee injury and I'm looking for a good plan to use2

Thanks ladies for your input and inspirational commentary that it can be done. I hope we can share our journeys here. I'm not sure of all the tools here and how to keep in touch but I hope to try harder1

Hi. I am 55. I have chronic migraine disease and long-term lower back problems due to multiple sacroiliac joint injuries. I am about to start counting CI/CO with MFP (again)… I work roughly 60 hours per week at a sedentary high-stress job; and am also the director of a community outreach program through the church where my DH preaches. Exercise feels like just one more thing I need to add to my never ending “To Do” list. (-: I tend to do OK doing CI/CO for a while, then a migraine will knock me down for a couple of weeks and I have to start all over again.
Thank you all for sharing your success stories and inspiration!5 -
I often see people with limitations define their problem by all the things they can't do. Possibilities open up when this is flipped on its head and all the permissible activities/foods are listed. I took the liberty of making up a Venn diagram of your family's preferences, and I came up with a pretty extensive list of foods you all can enjoy. It includes all the fruits and vegetables, starchy carbs, tofu, eggs, and cheese. To help you stay within your calorie goals, I suggest a low fat diet that includes lots of foods to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Here's my Venn.
I'm also over fifty and recovering from an ankle injury. I have a handy list of exercises provided by my physiotherapist and when that's done, I plan on starting C25K. Everyone starts somewhere.
Easy knee exercises use the bicycle and the pool. I'm doing squats daily to strengthen my knees.10 -
I like the pool and bike suggestions, as I have terrible knees. Many years carrying 300-350 lbs causes pain and crunchy sounds whenever Im walking up and down stairs. Im down to 245 now and trying to increase my activity however I can. My laundry room is in my basement and this causes an issue because I have to do the laundry for a family of 5! Ive began taking the laundry around the house thru the basement door, as I have less incline than the stairs.. and about three times the steps! It seems ridiculous but it hurts less- and I know Im building strength by carry totes of laundry all day lol. WIN WIN!7

Yay! I'm down 1 pound this week! 2 days I was not logging either. Plus 2 days I went way over calories! Do you think trying to do the faster weight loss is a bad idea? 1200 calories vs 1500? I was hoping to try 1200 and if I go over some I wont beat myself up. If I do 1500 I probably will over eat all the time and since I am not able to do vigorous exercise I cant count that as calories out. Suggestions and advice welcome. Still learning how to.use this community.1

Jgnatca....I dont know how to reply to your post on the Venn diagram. But just realized you did that! Thank you and hope you get my message!0

Had a bad night of stomach pains. Didnt eat anything til nearly 2pm. Went over calories because of the crackers I had to eat to get the pain to stop. Anyway there is always tomorrow. I stayed under 1500. Its ok.. Happy 4th yall!0

The crackers were important. Good to see you didn’t beat yourself up.0

Going to regret today.....2.88 miles, 3.0 mph, 7100 steps in 1 hour. Knee is throbbing! Orthopedic is putting me in Physical therapy pre surgery. Hoping I can prolong it. May want to rethink.0
-
What are you rethinking; surgery or overdoing it? Are you using RICE on that knee?1

Bad knees and diabetic. Blood sugar is out of control. In order to have knee surgery I must lose 100 lbs and of course get my blood sugar stabilized. Would help if I could walk more.but I've begun to shuffle, barely lifting my feet due to knee pain. I've joined the Y. Now if I can make it to the pool...2
