Success/struggles of the week: I have my annual physical this week and I am determined to get back to the 120's before weigh in! Even 129 will make me happy! Maintenance is the life game....I hear you Kathy when you say you don't want to buy bigger pants! I love (LOVE) the feeling, especially at 60, of being able to shop for clothes and they fit! I draw much inspiration from everyone's posts. Oh, and the new pup has settled in very nicely so far...took her to a drive-in movie last night (yes -- we still have one in our area --nothing better on a hot summer night) -- it was her first outing other than neighborhood walks. (Sorry, I digress....)5

Success/struggles of the week: Decided my sugar habit in maintenance was getting totally out of hand. Without demonizing anything, I decided to rein it in a bit: 10 days without sugary treat foods. Mostly, this was to feel more in control of my food and out of curiosity whether excess sugar was a contributor to low mood or anxiety. Not sure yet, but 5 days in I am definitely glad I am trying the experiment of dialing it back.8

Success/Struggle of the week: went to the gym and ran on the treadmill. Took my music. Usually I hate it but I loved it! I know family vacation is coming up... going to be hard to stay on target. When I'm on my own, I'm fine, but lots of outings for ice cream, dessert, and less exercise (my job provides 70% of my exercise since I do manual labor) has me worried. Mapping out some runs I can do, and depending on weather I will swim most days.9

Successes/struggles of the week: Whoa, whatta week... lots of upheaval and distraction and good times (and even some less good times) with 5 houseguests and many family gatherings. Usually go to the gym every day but haven't been in over a week. And went to a "Canada Day" party yesterday but (hehe, novel concept here), focused more on chatting with the other guests than in filling my plate with all the delicious-looking foods everybody brought. And also found myself volunteering general design advice to a very likeable couple who are starting up their own company... just very limited amounts of times, and just if it works for both of us, after all I am a breezy, unfettered retiree - don't want a big committment hanging over my head, just interested in contributing to something fun and exciting, and saving them some money! Thing is, I think I'm so much more outgoing as a happy Maintainer.
Still really enjoying the healthy liver diet, and still finding that it REALLY boosts my weight loss beyond what I predict based on calories in and calories out. Currently I'm below my maintenance range. I'll see how it goes... maybe I'll lower my range to the 130s.
@brightresolve, I heartily agree with the idea that excess sugar affects mood. I've been keeping sugar very low for two months now. I am in the habit of mentally monitoring my mood regularly throughout the day; in the last month especially, it's like all the nutrients have constructed a strong and sturdy floor that completely stops my mood from sinking into the lower range - such an interesting experience to take reading after reading and finding my mood staying on an even keel - really worth giving up sugary treats for, in my opinion.
@mazcor536, congrats on achieving your goal weight!!!
@juliemargaretkim, I think most of us enjoy your "new puppy" digressions... hehe, to me it's another example of the joy of living that has nothing to do with FOOD and EATING.
@peppermintcaroline, say, you aren't by any chance peppermintpattie using a pseudonym are you? Best of luck for finding a way to fit your diet and exercise goals into your family vacation. If your family is like mine, they will take their cues from you, and if you yourself give it a priority, they will be more likely to respect your efforts, and accommodate them.
 WISHING EVERYONE A. FINE WEEK!11

Success/struggles of the week: My weight has been relatively steady this week so that would be a success. I have struggled a bit with feeling discouraged though. I am still pretty worried about regaining the weight although people tell me that it is crazy to feel that way and that I won't regain the weight. But I know that statistically most people who lose a significant amount of weight do regain it. I just hope that I will be able to stay relatively slim and active for the rest of my life. I want to stay where I feel good and think I look good even if others think I look too thin. I don't ever want to go back to being tired all the time and getting out of breath doing simple things like unloading groceries from the car. I like having this thread so I can easily look back and see that I am not gaining weight. I also like that I can see that my weight has stabilized because I don't want to lose any more weight either.11

Success/struggles of the week: Took a break from weighing and logging for a few weeks. I learned that a) I missed the motivation I get from this group, and b) I am not confident enough to part with logging my food and weighing myself. My weight has been stable, but my food choices have not been good. At least I haven't been overeating, which is typically my problem (along with craving sugar). I am going to concentrate on finding a time to prep my meals in advance. I'm really having difficulty finding time to prepare my food. This was an absolute priority when I was losing weight, so I think it will really help with maintenance.
 Kathryn -
I share your goal -- and your worries. I want to beat the regain statistics and keep it off for life. It is not "crazy" to be fearful of gaining the weight back at all. Having looked at the statistics of regaining and knowing my personal weight "boomerang" history, I have come to accept that I will always have to keep a close eye on my food, weight, and activity. I, too, NEVER want to go back! Those fifty pounds made me feel discouraged and ashamed all the time -- and they also made it nearly impossible to find a pair of pants that fit. More importantly, I also don't want to go back to my old ways of eating. In regard to others, people just got used to seeing us / knowing us at our higher weight. My husband is not very supportive of my weight loss because he sees me as too thin. I see myself as weighing a bit over what I should, so we truly have different perceptions. I just have to focus on my own happiness because I need to be comfortable with my own body.

Stunning views and am proud of how well I hiked it. Looking forward to an island trip tomorrow.
Tweaking my strength workouts. Trying to shorten them without losing gains.
Challenges of the week: Been struggling with binge/walk/purge troubles. Added another couple Grand to our debt this week. Hyperventilate just thinking about it. Zero room for anything else to go wrong. No more credit cards left to juggle for next emergency. No money to help kids for college. Praying my job doesn't evaporate. If it does, I will be hard-pressed to replace it and be able to cover the mortgage.

Success/struggles of the week: Without demonizing anything, I decided reset my sugar habit (which was getting out of hand in maintenance) by trying 10 days without sugary treat foods - TBH I have not yet succeeded in doing entirely without, my weak moments are many. I am curious whether excess sugar is a contributor to low mood or anxiety. I am still working this one and have extended my experiment a bit.
Happier with the weight right now though. I feel like my original goal weight of 130 was a little high, I am built like a greyhound (a greyhound with a little tummy, that is). Feeling like I may need to adjust my maintenance range, 128 should be my trigger to rein it in.6

@Rachelmilloy thank you for your feedback and encouragement on the sugar-mood issues. Still observing this one, doubt if I will ever let go of it completely because just too much joy in the sweets...
@kgirlhart and @HarperAnn6 I totally get fear of regaining, I am was a yoyo who gained and lost the same 15-25 pounds so very many times life long. I am dead sick of it and if the price tag on maintaining is logging food and staying active even when I don't have a big dramatic athletic goal, I WILL PAY.
And about "too thin" -- I so much support the idea that everyone needs to be at the weight THEY feel best at. Nobody else gets to call that shot. I know where I have more energy, don't get sick, feel light on my feet, can establish detente with the mirror, don't get knee pain when I run. I have worked so hard to get where I want to be, and it's hard because those 20 lbs that were so vital for me to lose are considered "vanity" by some and "now you're too thin" by others, but for me wearing that 20 cut away at my well-being, my abilities, and my self-perception.
We are used to seeing bigger people these days -- especially among older people like me -- so us fitties are going to look too thin to people *shrug* or make them feel a little uncomfortable because we are not going gentle into that good night #sorrynotsorry
@CoachJen71 I am so sorry for the hard times. Keep taking care of yourself.
@ryenday Jeans. The never ending battle. No matter your body type you WILL have a problem, it seems... I have trouble getting my skinnies off over my runner calves, and as the reverse of an hourglass figure I would have to go under healthy BMI to lose my muffin top lol
 Carry on beautiful maintainers8

Success: Just got back from a 2 week cruise plus July 4th with family without tracking food or exercise, and only gained a couple of lbs. after water weight equalized! While I enjoyed the freedom to eat whatever I wanted, and was fairly active with walking and hiking, I was feeling a little lethargic and out of sorts by the end, and it's clear that I do much better physically and mentally when I have my routines in place.
Struggles: Getting back into my routine, especially activity-wise. I'm still feeling slow and unmotivated, potentially due to residual gluten contamination (I was extremely careful on the ship, but had a couple of episodes, probably inevitable). Getting back to resistance training tomorrow, and I've committed to at least one run and one bike ride this next week.
Sending positive vibes to everyone for a successful upcoming week!9

 Success/struggles of the week:
Holding steady for 11 days now. Bouncing around a 2lb range. Biggest struggle is trusting the maintenance calories mfp gives me. Still eating at deficit but gradually adding calories to see where I’ll balance out.10
