Celebrate with me!
In high school I played sports year round, but never did any weight training because the first time I went to the weight room I was told to record my one rep max for the bench press and couldn't even lift the bar (40lbs). I walked out and never went back.
So while it's not a pair of DragonPants it was this DragonWeight 40lbs bench press.
I bought a barbell a few weeks ago and have been adding 5lbs to it every arm day. Today was the day I would go over 40lbs.......
and I did it without a struggle!
Next goal is to bench half my weight!
Good job!! Dragons come in all shapes and sizes, but there's always a loot pile of AWESOME they're hoarding. Good job on slaying the dragon!!12 -
Got my first "Don't lose any more" comment yesterday (which is hilarious as I'm still a stone over a healthy BMI, but I'll take it).
And today I've hit my 365 day logging streak.
Oh, and somehow joining a line dancing class 'for fun' a few months back ended up with me (and my friends) taking part in a dance recital this week....... Would NEVER have done that a year ago40 -
A friend told me how to loop the band around the little holders on the uprights to assist with pull ups (so it’s a line you stand on, not the loop hanging from the bar that I’m afraid I’ll end up dangling by one foot from), so I’ve been working on chin ups with the band (pull ups were still embarrassingly hard with the band I had). Today I was doing my thing, thinking it felt easy. Then realized I was doing pull-ups, not chin ups! So maybe I’m ready to go to the thinner band!
I pulled something in my quad (I think?) two Saturdays ago while squatting. It still hurts when I do anything more than a slow walk. But NSV is that is making me really focus on my eating, which had gotten out of hand, and I’m making progress on my OHP and bench after being stalled for forever. Trying to stay active and lose the few pounds that I’d been ignoring while not being able to use my legs for much is definitely a challenge.15 -
This morning I went to have blood drawn for my annual physical. I was talking with the phlebotomist about donating blood and she commented that it always makes her dizzy. I told her that could be because she's so petite, I never get dizzy, probably because I'm "big boned"
She looked at me like I was nutso and told my I'm crazy, that I'm tiny!!!
I looked at her like she was nutso and told her that most of my life I was fat, maxing out at 250 lbs. ( I currently maintain at about 155)
She looked at me again with that nutso look, I kept looking at her with the nutso look, then I my eyes started to water.
I just turned 60 and have never been call tiny, little or small. I know I'm far from tiny, but it still rocked my world to hear it.45 -
It’s my son’s birthday today and I knew we were going to have cake. I carefully budgeted throughout the day for a piece of cake. While eating it, I started to feel guilty, but pushed those feelings back and enjoyed every bite. Didn’t even finish it and then went on a run after the kiddos were in bed, clocking a PB time27

I tried my first ever Crossfit yesterday. I had always thought it was for super fit people. By the way that is not true, everyone starts somewhere. I loved it and am going back Monday!

I found hip bones for the first time in my life!
And my wife is getting fed up of me taking up the mirror when she's trying to get ready 😁28 -
I had to tighten my belt another notch!23

I need to buy a belt. Getting tired of hiking up my jeans.19

I've had some shorts hanging in the back of my closet that made my muffin top seem extra big because they were so tight. They also we're tight on my thighs. Its been a few summers since I've been able to wear them comfortably. Yesterday I slipped them on and felt comfortable all day! No petruding muffin top, no lines on my thighs from being too tight and I was even able to pull them down without unbuttoning them!28

I made it to the top of Rough Ridge for a spectacular view from The Blowing Rock. (Actually, probably more impressive is that FOUR of my vacation days required hikes of varying degrees of difficulty. Not my usual "hang out at the beach, try new restaurants, and do some shopping" kind of vacation!)26

During the four days I spent at the cabin, I went on a run twice. TWICE. I’m talking about a place where my usual routine is pretty much netflix-cocktails-wine-bbq-sauna, repeat until you leave. Sure, I did all those things too, but I did manage to add some healthy exercise to the mix. Also, I did not buy chocolate to bring with me, but I did bring salad.
Only two weeks of C25K left before it’s time to, you know, actually run the 5K. At this rate I might be able to actually reach my 10K goal before snowfall this year.26 -
My behind doesn't "eat" my underwear anymore.
I needed a belt for my shorts. They don't fall of yet, but the sag in a very unsightly manner.
I went to the beer garden yesterday and only had one small beer. No fries, no pretzel, no sausage - I was so proud of myself!20 -
I'm on vacation in London and my luggage arrived a day late, so I had to go shopping for a few thing. I just grabbed a pair of size 8 jeans forgetting that UK sizes are smaller than US sizes along with a shirt and some underwear. Most of my jeans are a US size 8. They are only slightly snug straight out of the dryer!!!! After a few hours of wearing them they fit near perfect.27

Took the children for a day out yesterday. We had to get up at (5am) to ensure that we'd get make it to the start of the nearest Parkrun to where we were going. I am slightly (but only very slightly) ashamed that I forced the children out of bed that early to satisfy my Parkrun needs. Not sure how the children felt but they went along with it, bless. My five year old bounced out of bed at 5am but the teenagers took a little more persuading.
The Parkrun was amazing, along a sea front. A gorgeous day and really friendly people. But the best, best, bestest bit was when my 13 year old, who refuses to run, said that he'd join me and his brother for the 5k. And he did! I was so proud of him, he was running/skipping/walking/plodding but he did it. I was so happy about it that I took a selfie of the three of us by the sea. I have never taken a selfie before (and generally scorn them) but I was just so thrilled that he'd done it (he was the last member of my family to participate in a full 5k Parkrun) that I wanted to capture the moment.
Then after that, we went to explore some castles which involved lots more walking, including a tight spiral staircase which was over 100' tall and must have had 250 steps. Halfway up my little one was saying that her legs hurt but she carried on and made it to the top. Well worth the climb as the views were stunning.
In all, a good day. 48 Parkruns under my belt now, my whole family have participated (which fills me with joy as I know that they'll keep going with it) and a lovely day out with my wonderful family. Tiring, granted, but a fabulous day.
Busy planning more . . .39 -
At the mall yesterday, two of my weaknesses: JJill and 30% off drew me in. I haven’t bought much of anything lately, waiting until I settle in a “goal range” but I couldn’t resist an adorable pair of wide leg printed pants in a Small Petite and a black tank to go with.
I never would have chosen printed pants before, but they looked darn cute and fit so nicely. Wore them out to dinner last night20 -
I wanted to go for a walk today but it was raining all day. I tried on a rain jacket I bought at my lowest weight 5 years ago - I haven't been able to even do it up for years, but today I could do it up and it fit decently (though a bit snug). I tried on some other clothes from back then and they finally all fit again. I've only lost 7.5kg and am still 10kg heavier than my lowest weight, so in a few more kg they should fit better18

You're a better person that I am! I am 8 weeks into C210K and didn't run at all on a recent two week vacation. Though I did walk a lot. There is a run in my town every October and for the last two years I started C25K in the spring and was able to do the 5k run in October. This year my goal is to do the 10k run instead. We can do this!!12 -
Everyday I walk three miles on the treadmill, I do a little bit of stretching before I start. This morning when I bent my knee and pulled my leg up behind me I was shock at how far I could bring it up. My muscles felt lose and I was able to bring my foot up to my hips.20
