What's not miserable at 95 degrees F and 70% humidity? SWIMMING POOL. On vacation (actually housesitting and caring for two dogs) planned to drag myself out of bed before the crack of daylight to run, it was already over 80 and rapidly rising so I did laps instead. Sooo nice. Tomorrow is supposed to drop to 72 so I may run then. I did take the dogs for a long walk. And then got back in the pool.
@Elise4270 , @girlinahat - I love most critters, in fact I rescued several crickets and a fuzzy caterpillar from the pool this morning, but flying cockroaches are the one thing I can't handle. When we were poor and first married, we used to live in an apartment next to a restaurant, and the cockroaches would fly right at you, and my husband said he always knew when one got in by the bloodcurdling screams. Also, cicada killers, just no. Wasp as big as my thumb? Yikes.
Signs of the heat I guess, we have discovered more lizards in our house. In twenty years of living there I've never seen ONE lizard, and this year the cat keeps bringing us dead lizards, and bits of dead lizards. So far this summer, six lizards of three different species, a golden skink, a pink and green skink, and the kind with racing stripes. What the heck is going on?

So, I learned something new today. I learned that the National Weather Service has different levels of heat advisories. Today’s level (through Friday) is “extreme”. To give you an idea of what that means, I took an obligatory “extreme heat advisory” selfie. Normally I don’t post selfies because I want to discourage MFP creepers. However, i think this might be a more effective method ...
I seriously think running in this heat is starting to addle my brain.

Oh no! Does anyone remember her username? I tried to go back and look but this thread is so busy. I would love to send her a friend request and encouraging message.
I had pretty much given up on the MFP forums until I found this challenge. People seemed so hostile in a lot of the forum posts. It is so demoralizing when you are new and just looking for encouragement and information. I hate to think we scared someone away!
The people in this challenge have been so supportive. They gave me so much good advice as a newbie runner doing C25K. I would love to offer that encouragement to someone else.5 -

I do not think the intent was to scare her off - just to warn her that much mileage and being a nonrunner would not be a good combination. It would possibly lead to injury.
Most of us are hoping it was a typo and she meant 16 miles, not 160 miles.3 -

Right, but it was 160 miles starting mid-way through the month. So going from 0 miles / week to 80 miles / week.0 -

Yeah, it was an immediate red flag to me, so I just wanted to warn her before she hurt herself. By no means was it meant as hostile. If you are out there @JuliaMacEwan, please understand we were just trying to help!! Don't be scared of us....we only want to support and encourage our little family (with only a few jabs here and there )5 -

Agreed. I remember earlier this week swearing off afternoon work outs. Its not happened. I was dripping sweat just laying the new soaker hoses today.

There is being encouraging and being realistic. You guys were both.
I was part of a group that was "everyone must be positive no matter what" which sounds great until a guy posted that he lost 100lb in 100 days. When I pointed out that was likely a typo I got jumped on. No matter your beginning weight, that is not safe and healthy. And I realised that anytime anyone posted stupid WL or exercise myths everyone was supportive and no one contradicted it. It took the shine off that group.
As for me, I decided to let my body decide if I would run today. Basioits a scheduled rest day but I didn't run Monday so thought I might. I didn't set my alarm and basically said if I'm awake at 530 I'll run, if I don't then I won't. Small child woke me at 5:45.... So rest day it is lol. Given on scheduled run days I wake before the alarm i figured that was a good method!
Lunchtime walk today instead9 -
@avidkeo i was asked to leave a fibro group because i asked for nonanecdotal proof for the anti-inflammatory diet. it's not like we would want to have helpful and accurate and non-woo information. warm and fuzzy is overrated
i find most people here are very supportive and the posts cannot be read aggressively. great advice and great experience.5 -

Right, but it was 160 miles starting mid-way through the month. So going from 0 miles / week to 80 miles / week.
Right, I mean if it was @AlphaHowls we would have been all like "You get hurt? That why you cut back?" but this a declared "nonrunner." Big difference!6 -
Joining new here in this thread. I am currently due to my Ashley Horner workouts having to run 2 miles before every lifting session, so I am hitting about 10 a miles a week, and then moving into 3 miles 5x a week as I move into Phase 3 of the workouts...so looking at hitting 15 miles per week starting in August. I am in a stepping challenge, first to hit 1,000,000 steps, and currently I am at 660,558...and have until end of August to reach One million. Your posts are motivating and I enjoyed reading them today!19

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. Race recap. Yesterday’s 7 mile trail race at Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium was scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm. It starts and ends at the part of the park where the wolves are housed (hence the name the Wolf Run). I carpooled with two of my friends and we arrived in plenty of time to find a good parking space, pick up our bib numbers and talk with other runners. About 6:15, a thunderstorm rolled through. Lots rain. Lots of thunder and lightning. The start was delayed about 10 minutes. Lots of mud puddles on the trail most of which I went through the middle. I actually made it past a few runners who were tip-toeing gingerly around them. With about 7-tenths of a mile to go, I came upon one of my friends sitting on a bench beside the trail. She had landed her foot between a couple of roots, heard a pop in her ankle and that was it. She insisted that I go on and finish the race. A few yards past her, I met a volunteer heading her way and I made sure she was going to check on her. Turns out the popping noise was her tendon/ligament which pulled the calcaneus bone from the ankle bone. It took the EMTs a while to get her out. The side-by-side couldn’t get to that area so finally a couple of the guys carried her through the woods and up a hill to a location the side-by-side could reach. We loaded her in her car and off to the ER we went. She was in so much pain. I finally got her home around 1:30 am this morning. We didn’t get to stay for the post-race meal (obviously) so we were starving. Luckily there was a Dunkin’ Donuts still open at 12:30 so we had a donut while waiting on her prescription for pain meds. She will be in a boot for the next 5 weeks and then slowly start some activity. I ended up spending the night at her house and taking her to work this morning. She is single and has two grown daughters one of which lives in the area; however, she is out of town for a work conference. You never can have too many friends! Oh, the good part of my race was that I finished in 1:24:51. I was worried since my previous practice runs out there had me finishing in 1:35 and the cut off was 1:45. Placed first in my AG and an overall 110 out of 144 runners that finished.21

I can definitely say that was my best run in a looong time. Felt like I was actually running and not just slogging it out.
Slugs are the only thing I have to dodge in wet weather

@Marissaxzxzxz Those runs are so nice when they pop up... I wish I could get them more often, but it seems like the "slogs" are always waiting just outside the door for me.3

Yes, they were all stretched out straight - some of them were massive, about 20-25cm long - and all headed for higher ground. I was concerned they'd get caught out in the sunshine and die, but the weather turned again and, as they're all gone now and there are no remains, I take it most of them survived the deluge.1
