While I have avoided Superwoman stances - I am trying to learn to be more comfortable with my reflection in the mirror. I am getting better and do spend more in time in front of one, although can still be a bit bleurgh when I catch sight of my profile in a shop window! Photgraphs are a whole other ball game - my hatred of the camera is as passionate as ever. Photographs still make me feel huge even though I am quite close to my first goal now. Why do photgraphs make me feel so much bigger than what I see in the mirror?
I have made it far enough to love the camera, and profiles the most. That's absolutely vanity but after years of trying to make sure I am facing the camera and sucking my gut in, to have candid profiles actually look good is a really great feeling.
Note to self; need to get some properly sized gym shorts.
@CarvedTones
Academy is currently having a back-to-school sale on gym clothes. I just picked up 2 new pairs of futbol shorts for $12 a piece (Adidas brand), normal price is $24 each.3 -

That IS a great feeling and one I hope to one day feel for myself! The hubs is going to take me to try out Stand Up Paddleboarding (it made me think of all the posts I see you making!) once I get through the Work Gauntlet of Suckage Hours! I hope I like it. We have lots of pretty places to see on the ocean!
Congrats on reaching such a milestone!
Thanks!
It is very likely that you will like SUP. I have been to a few group paddles where there were rental boards available because a lot of people were first timers and they pretty much always are excited about doing it more and asking for recommendations and costs for their own equipment. I really haven't seen anyone try it and hate it.
I'm really not a fan of SUP. I wouldn't say I hate any activity because I guess I'm a pretty positive person who will try nearly anything once; but, I will be very happy in my life if no one ever wants to do it again with me. I definitely will never seek it out on my own and will always choose kayaking over SUP.
I thought the paddle was obnoxious and I'm not a fan of standing for long periods of time. I'd rather sit or give me a pool noodle and I'd happily kick my way through the water.
I still show my kayak some love every now and then, especially since it has gotten faster and more maneuverable in the last year. Weird, huh?8 -
- how unkind some family and friends can be in the face of your success
- how much nicer shop clerks are to skinny customers than fat ones
- how you can lose 80 lbs and then run a marathon, climb mountains, bike a few centuries, bike the coast of an entire island nation in 7 days and still feel like it's not enough
- how unkind some family and friends can be when you've regained some of your weight loss back43 -

That’s exactly what I’m really aiming for. Which island nation did you cycle around? That sounds fantastic.

That months into maintenance you can suddenly get binge urges and feel really hungry without having changed your diet. You may not ever be able to let your guard down.24

I love eating the same food over and over again (it is a weird habit). I did the same exercise set as last Friday and so far have eaten the same breakfast and lunch as last Friday but I am wondering how my afternoon snack is going to last me till dinner, whereas last friday I was fine! It has been a hungry week.9 -
I realized I had been subconsciously "sucking it in" for as long as I can remember to hide my gut more. And im beginning to think its been the cause of not so optimal breathing, pooping, peeing, digesting... lol i never let my body just be relaxed, because I was in a constant state of insecurity.
Also maybe TMI lol, but it made me laugh! Nobody tells you your body will start to clap on itself. Like since your fat is getting smaller and more jiggly it claps lol. Like the arm pit area most commonly. I chuckled when I stepped to the side really fast and my little punching bag slammed into the side of my leg making a thwack sound. Thats one way to know youre getting smaller!
This made me laugh! That's awesome!5 -
Wow... so much to say here.
- 30 years of being 100 pounds overweight and the only one to express concern about my health was my mother... lose 100 pounds and suddenly everyone is concerned that I'm "too skinny"
- who is that skinny person in the mirror? Wait a minute... I'm actually willing to look in the mirror!
- shopping for clothes is very emotional... I thought I belonged in the XXL section not the sexy 8 petite
- bones... I have bones in my body and ouch; it hurts to sit too long. Why do sit ups cause me so much discomfort when they didn't before? I forgot, I couldn't do them before anyway so how would I know?
- Seriously... even my kids don't recognize me... WOW
- Hearing people tell me that I am an inspiration. This just blows my mind.

I didn't know my stretch marks would almost completely disappear from my pregnancy! Woot woot!23

Taiwan with a Giant crew. 550 miles in 7 days. The first 3 days were each 100 miles. We had to board the train with our bike for two small sections due to hazardous road conditions. I could tell stories about that adventure forever. It was actually written up in Bicycling magazine. I came to do it because a member of our cycling club was Taiwanese and said ‘psst! I have an idea!’ Lol
There were 11 of us on the trip from my cycling club. 2 women and 9 men. There were 3 Giant employees with us. 1 drove the support van. 1 lead guy and 1 follow guy.

How much better surgery recovery goes.
I had a C-section with my daughter when I was obese, I couldn't even get out of bed for 3 days, let alone walk anywhere
Down 180lbs, had a tummy-tuck and first day post-op, I am slow but can get out of bed by myself, walk around the house without assistance and in a helluva lot less pain!40 -

Oh my, I’d love to do something like that! Well done to you!

How much easier it is to do almost...everything! Getting restarted after an interruption in routine, refinding motivation, heck, even moving furniture! Not only is my body more fit, but my brain is too i think9

@pinuplove
My hope is to simply be able to go for a run without having to wear specialty compression gear to hold my flap in place (without it, it is quite painful - like running without a bra). Surgery removed 1.86kg of skin, plus .18kg of fat. I'll look better without the flap, but my goal is mainly function.
Here's pre-op (about a week before surgery) and the day after surgery.

A lot of things, I'm 54.4lbs down thus far ( I LOVE that my badge says 55lbs down)--my goal is to forever banish/rid my life and body of 10-15 more pounds (putting me at 152-154lbs), we'll see after I reach that goal. Here's somethings nobody told me:
1.) How I can literally "feel" myself getting smaller/shrinking. Especially my stomach. It "kinda" feels like reverse pregnancy to me.
2.) How I embrace humility and patience (with myself and others) more than any other time in my former obese life.
Before being "delivered" from these excess pounds/ounces/inches, I was very "proud, judgemental and self-conscience" about so much stuff. Instead, I'm embracing more mercy, selflessness, and joy (joy to me is super different than "happiness", joy means having an outlook that doesn't "change" no matter what "happens" (where as happiness for me changes depending on what happens") Now, good, bad or anything in-between is a "lesson" I MUST look for and purposely humbling myself, knowing I not only don't have all the answers--I'm actually WRONG about so much stuff, it aint even funny--I LOVE LIVING LIKE THIS. No longer being "impressed" with compliments nor depressed/easily angered at so-called "bad/sad/ or yucky stuff) Allowing "self-control" to rule and reign in my heart/mind and ways of living, being & THINKING. I haven't "arrived" yet, but the daily experience of living is now more "meaningful" for/to me. Now as I see clothes that were/are too small/tight swimming on me, it makes me so humbled to see/feel/experience that after 6+ years of trying everything in the book to "lose" weight, it's finally happening to/in/thru me and again, it's humbling and giving me such a positive and thankful/grateful outlook on everything now.
3.) How I don't won't look at/to any fads/gimmicks or "popular" proven methods to help me any longer, just CICO, eating "GOOD" everyday ( meaning eating/drinking whatever I want to--NO limits nor FORBIDDEN foods/drinks, just smaller portions and/or not as frequently as I used to eat when I was obese). It's so FREEING to live this way.
4.) Realizing that I'm actually eating the way I used to eat years ago, when I was super skinny.31 -
That I need to change the way I apply blusher to my cheeks. My face has always been full but now it’s leaner with the slightest hint of cheekbones (cheekbones!!!!). It doesn’t look “right” to me now.

That my boobs finally protrude more than my stomach again!36
