Hungry, but nothing is appetizing.

So, I'm super hungry. Haven't eaten anything but a few baby carrots and a bowl of cearal all day. But, absolutely NOTHING sounds even remotely appetizing. My appetite has been this way for a while now. I used to get like this every few weeks, but recently it's been most days. I don't know what to do. I need to eat, but even the thought of eating some things makes me want to barf. Just not sure what to eat in these cases. Had a friend tell me I needed to eat something that has a carb, a fat, and a protein in it. That doesn't help. Nothing is appetizing. So, making me choose three things now is even more impossible. Does anyone else experience this extreme hunger without being able to pick anything to eat? Had a different friend bail on my tonight because we couldn't pick a place to eat.

Do you like cheese?0

I do. But, even that doesn't sound like something I want.0

Do you have the flu?0

If you really feel that way, you should make an appointment with your doctor because that is not normal. Are you interested in eating some fruit - even a banana?2

No flu. And, fruit might taste good. But, I need something more substantial.0

Watermelon with a dash of salt.1

Yoghurt with fruit? Chuck some nut butter or nuts on it.0 -
I've never liked yogurt. It just has a weird texture.0

Meh. I need more of a meal. Everytime this happens all anyone can think of is snacks. That's not what I need. A cause would be nice. A meal would be nice. Something satisfying would be nice. I apologize if I'm coming across as really rude or crabby. I'm just hungry.1

What's wrong with eating snacks? Lots of snacks adds up.
Just eat. Do it because you know you need to.6 -

Are you vegan? More info would be helpful at this point.0 -
I just don't want to eat a bunch of junk. I just want to eat one thing and be done.3

What is junk to you?0

Sounds like an eating disorder is brewing. Sorry. I think you need professional help19

Not vegan. Just vegetarian. And, "junk" is junk food, and anything gross like yogurt, whipped cream, jello, mousse, etc.1 -

The only time I had issues deciding on what to eat was when I had placed such massive restrictions on myself about what I could eat. I had many negative connotations around food and eating - it made me physically and mentally unhealthy.
Undereating is not healthy. Eating "junk" food is better than not eating if this is a persistent problem.
We don't know what you think is gross. Stop demonising certain things - it's just food!20 -
When I get like that I mix up a batch of home made soylent. My goal is not satisfaction but nutrition. A few days of that and my interest in real food returns.5

OP, undereating is more unhealthy than eating "junk". You asked what you could eat easily when nothing is appetizing, but now you don't want snacks and you don't want junk and you don't eat meat and you don't want to eat perfectly normal foods because they're gross.
You need to forget about all these rules you have surrounded yourself with and just eat something, because you are a responsible adult and you need to give your body fuel as part of Taking Care of Yourself 101. Then you might want to make an appointment for a check up and consider talking to a professional about your relationship with food. This could very easily get out of hand on you, better to catch it now before it starts to affect your health.
Please take care of yourself.17 -

You sound like you're getting sick. Focus on feeling better, ignore diet. Recovery is more important than a day or two of poor eating.1

This happens to me often. I find food to be a bit of a hassle when I'm busy with other things. The hungrier I get, the more my appetite goes away. Sometimes I find that once I make the choice to eat something and start eating, my appetite comes back a bit. Some safe foods that I gravitate towards-
hardboiled eggs
plain veggie burger patty
protein bar (Clif Builder Bars are good)
banana
peanut butter and jelly sandwich
hummus sandwich2 -
This happens to me sometimes.. but then I think about my goals and it quickly goes away and make sure I am fueling adequately and getting enough protein. Last thing I need is to lose my hard earned muscle, that snaps me out if it really quick.
What about a smoothie.. just add some calories and down it.2
