Progesterone stimulates osteoblasts and prevents bone loss in pre- and possibly perimenopausal women. Studies indicate that progesterone – likely working through bone formation pathways -plays an active role in maintaining women’s bone and in osteoporosis prevention.(11) Research shows that transdermal progesterone had bone-sparing effects.(12)

It is very worth reading IMO, love ya'all, Happy Anniversary Machka, Wendy
Very interesting, but finding avDr who has this info would be a long search . Pat in Oh
Pat, there is no need to look for a doctor as you don't need a prescription to buy natural progesterone. It is available over the counter, or you can order it delivered to your door. Just make sure it is the real stuff and not the fake stuff that drug companies make called confusingly Progestins. Your body can't metabolise the fake stuff properly. If you research progesterone you will be amazed at all the benefits of using it. Try borrowing from your library either one of Dr. John Lee's books "What your Doctor may not tell you about Menopause" or "What your Doctor May Not Tell You about Breast Cancer." In a nutshell, if you don't want to get osteo, or other age-related breakdowns and you don't want to get cancer, use progesterone. Wendy1 -
Great Kim! It's good to have a time goal to focus your efforts. I think over here that kind of biker/dresser-upper is called "steam punk" , but that may not be accurate. The British love a costume! Not so much me.
My son loves it - he was into mediaeval sword fighting, but now he's into Airsoft, which involves dressing up in combat gear and running round shooting toy guns. As I brought him up a pacifist, it's a bit weird, but he assures me no one gets hurt and it is "just a game". The costumes seem to be the main attraction.
Losing 30 lbs is a great accomplishment. I started MFP six years ago and I'm still counting every calorie! With my love of food and drink I know it would be a disaster if I didn't. The only thing I don't count is my afternoon bonus calories. I eat delicious, healthy food, but I know I would sneak extras in if I couldn't see the figures in black and white. However, I use "Quick Add" a lot as I don't bother with macros. I just tot up the calories in my head and put the number down, sometimes combining meals, like lunch and afternoon snack. It makes it all doable and my diet is so good anyway and I have no blood sugar etc problems. I am only interested in CICO.
Of course, I am eating nearly 1800 calories a day, so I have quite a few to play with!
Good luck on your renewed commitment.
It's "defrost the enormous freezer" day today. DH and I are doing it together this afternoon. It needs doing even if we don't move. If we do, then it needs defrosting as the buyer's are taking it over. Must also clean its twin, the fridge. I think it's a day for frozen chilli. Plus sweet potato for DH and roasted cauliflower for both of us.
Bank Holiday weekend here. Monday is a holiday for banks, family doctors, and offices, but services keep going and some shops. My solicitor is taking Friday to Monday off. Trains are always in a mess. I try never to go anywhere.

Nice!
Regarding Stats ...
Tasmania gets 12 per year, but they bunch them all up in the summer/autumn for the most part, and we have a long gap between mid-June and the end of October with nothing.
So I'm taking a day off in early September, during my Spring Break week, just to have a long weekend.

Kim, I think over on this side of the pond, they call it "cosplay," but I don't know how to pronounce it. It covers a lot of "costume play" on the part of adults. Good on you for a time-delimited goal. It's always helpful for me, too.
Machka - so pleased that your husband is out cycling with you again. It is such a part of your identities, both separately and apart. Such a joyful thing, and on your anniversary as well. So happy for both of you.
On the subject of turmeric, I've found that a number of substances that others swear by do nothing for me. Glucosamine chondroitin actually hurt me, made me feel as if there were rough sandpaper in every joint. The CBD oils had zero impact. Whatever you try along these lines, simply try one thing at a time, and don't change anything else, and you'll have a better idea of what works.
The athletic flex tape has been the only thing that's kept me moving - and it was apparent why when they showed me the X-rays. Not looking forward to December surgery.
After my two-week marathon trip, I ended up about a half-pound lighter. Would have probably been more, but the last day before coming home was sugared up. Ah well. Lighter is lighter.
More on the trip over on my personal blog, coffeeandegg dot wordpress dot com. Want to put all the bits in one place, so my friends, both MFP and otherwise, can see too, including pics. Don't know how many turned out, but I'll put them up there.
Love y'all,

I've been on them for a couple weeks now, but the jury is still out. They were supposed to go a long way to get rid of the joint pain in my feet ... but if anything that's worse. Plus my hips have been really acting up in the last few days.
They may not be causing the pain, but they don't seem to be helping.

Good morning ladies! It is a humid and foggy morning here in West Michigan! Trentin arrived a little on the sleepy/grumpy side, so he is vegging out on the couch with a movie. I am going to TRY to convince him to go on the hike, but we may end up just hanging out and playing board/card games, today.
Rori- So glad it was a typo! Although open marriage would give us more to read and talk about!
Machka- I am so happy you and your DH were able to get out and do some biking on the roads! Very smart of you to find a low traffic area to start!
Kim- Congrats on your 30 lbs lost and "you can do it" for your last 20 lbs! Perhaps you could dress as a "Warrior woman"?! I participate in "dress up" through our local museum as a docent. I get to dress up once in a while and portray different historical "local characters". They provide the costumes; but I do have a skirt, camisole, vest and lovely, lovely hat of my own. IF, I am ever asked to dress up as who I want to be, it would be a toss up between Maleficent, Catwoman, and Lisbeth Salander. I guess I have a dark side. The Childcatcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang has always been some one I wanted to dress up as for Halloween; but don't want to freak my kiddies out, so it's a no-go.
Lisa-Not gaining weight, not to mention actually losing weight, while you travel is AMAZING!
Sharon (Trucker)- If you like them, both, cottage cheese and greek yogurt are great sources of protein and filling snacks! Nuts are also a good source of protein, but also high in fat. I know it is good fat, but when you are trying to lose weight you can't go crazy on the good fats. I think one ounce of raw almonds is about seven almonds. Good luck! We are here for you!
Well, it looks like I will have next weekend off, plus Monday as that is Labor Day holiday! Three days off after 12 days on! I will take it! I have all of my bags prepped (I organize each day's craft/activity/theme into bags during these "theme-a-day" weeks) for the week. This week promises to be busy but fun. Holiday Adventure week. Monday is Valentines Day, Tuesday is Mardi Gras, Wednesday is Halloween, Thursday is Thanksgiving, Friday is Christmas! lol Friday is Christmas because THEN I can keep those decorations up for the ENTIRE long weekend! Whoot!
That's all I've got! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (kelly)

Kim, I am such an introvert that I would probably have declined the invitation to the wedding and saved myself a ton of money and preparation and anxiety. I assume that you are looking forward to spending time with your friend (the bride) and the others who will come to the wedding. That's a great way to get yourself back on track for your weight loss. You are very focused and resourceful.3

Lanette: I seldom use a treadmill because I tend to pound my knees and I have an old over-use knee injury. I love the stationary bike. I also love to go for long walks though it isn't as likely I'll do that in winter due to weather issues. It is one of the reasons that the gym membership is so valuable to me.
I don't seem to have much to say today. Yesterday we went to Portland Saturday market with our son and grandson. We bought a wonderful handmade puppet for our grandson. The lady who made them has been making puppets and selling them at Saturday Market since my 40 year old son was little, and now his son has one of her puppets, too. We took all sorts of photos of the event.

Kim ~ Maybe you will be able to find someone going to the wedding to share the motel room with. Good for you vowing to lose those extra 20 lbs. I liked the idea of you being "Warrior Woman" because I see you as a strong uncompromising person to be admired.
Heather ~ Good luck on defrosting your freezer. Think that would be a messy task to undertake.
Rebecca ~ Your food choices look so healthy.
Kelly ~ I was telling my DnL about your great ideas for your daycare students. She had 5 little girls over Friday night to celebrate her daughter's 7th birthday. Evidently, 5 little girls screaming for hours was something to behold. The screaming was just the excitement of being together and having fun.
Today is my 49th wedding anniversary! We will celebrate by going out for a steak dinner!

Hi Gals,
Thinking of all!
So a bit of a story – I’ve been here for a good long while – I joined 2-14-14 and when I started I counted everything as best I could and lost, 30 lbs ! I was so happy and proud; I hit a plateau and decided to take a week or so break. Well, the break has lasted for over a year now – but I have stayed within 5 lbs of my 30 lbs off. But there has always been an additional 20lbs that need to come off – and maybe more; but the total of 50 has been the long-term goal.
I have a gal friend who is getting married – She’s about 55, it’s a second marriage for her and a 3rd for her guy. The wedding is in May 2019. They are big lovers of “dress up/pretend” – I’m not sure how else to explain it – She loves Renaissance fairs, costumes, they both ride motorcycles and have all the biker gear – and for the wedding which will be in a park overlooking the ocean – you are supposed to come in costume, as who you’ve dreamed of being - I am not big into fantasy, comics, super heros, wishing to be “someone else”. So I have been at a loss of what I would wear to this costume party wedding. The only thing I really want is that next 20lbs off – so that’s the plan! I am starting tomorrow (as it is the end of the day here) back to full fledged working of MFP – and saving to buy a brand new outfit for the wedding. It is going to be in a pretty but secluded area of the California Coast and in looking at places to stay, they have 3 day minimums and $170-$300 per night…This will be an expensive wedding to attend. But if I’m going I am going 20 lbs lighter! I will also be investigating camping options.
Smiles
Kim from N. California
Congrats on the 30lb loss. That was not easily earned I bet. It sounds like a great way to celebrate a wedding, I too though would be most comfortable in more weight loss as that is my dream. good luck to you.0 -
Well, my friends, defrosting the enormous freezer took three and a half man hours of HARD work from the two of us. Layers of plastic bags, towels, duvet, cloths, kitchen towel. Lots of bowls and saucepans of HOT water. Lots of bending and sponging and chipping and ferrying and boiling of kettles. But it is DONE. I am exhausted and my hips hurt.
I will NEVER, EVER, buy another freezer that needs defrosting. Frost free for me for ever.
When/if we move we will just have to empty the shelves and drawers and sponge them. I have thrown a lot of stuff away so it's not as big a job in the future. I have a lot of chicken stock to use up! Think there is a lot of aveglemono in my future, especially as there are frozen egg yolks in there.
The good thing is that it has been absolutely pouring with rain all day, so it was a good way to spend the holiday! I pity the poor people who were planning a bbq, or a nice day out at the seaside. We deliberately chose this time because of the weather forecast. I must have burnt off a lot of calories.
All the towels and cloths are in the washing machine.
Tonight we have decided to have a bottle of champagne.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx
The freezer is on the right hand side as you look at it. We are leaving both the fridge and the freezer for the buyers. Still need to clean the fridge, but I think DH will do that.5 -
Woo HOO! Despite having 12 oz of REAL Oktoberfest yesterday and eating the most humongous breakfast, managed to stay exactly the same weight, thanks to lots of walking with company. Was great to have 'em, and a bit of a relief to see 'em go.
Left ear has been aching since before company came. Hot compresses, ear oil haven't helped much. Advil lets me sleep but then the ache returns in the morning. This morning trying turmeric, cayenne, lemon zest, honey. It didn't taste so good til added a splash of apple cider vinegar. Went back and ground a pinch of black pepper thanks to you gals' reminders. Fingers Xd.
Rebecca I sure wish we were closer, would leave some big surprises at your doorstep. SIL brought us GIANT zucchini. Heather would call them vegetable marrows. They look like submarines to me. Can only make so many muffins and loaves of bread. Never tried putting balsamic dressing on steamed zucchini, will try, thanks! Otherwise the only way I really like it is deep fried (of course) dipped in horseradish sour cream sauce
Barbie likewise would leave a zucchini submarine at your door, if I could be sure it wouldn't trip you up.
KJ thanks for asking Rori about her DH's GF's condo... I was thinking "Boy that Rori is sure more broadminded than I'd ever want to be..." Hope this morning's turmeric concoction doesn't yellow my teeth any more than they are already
Michele tell me about stringing popcorn? Christmas already?
Kim love LOVE "Love" your plan to attend your friend's wedding as the 20 lbs lighter gal you've dreamed of being. You can make this dream come true! Good luck with the camping options!

Good morning!
It has been a long time since I had to really take on the mama-bear stance with my older son's health care, but yesterday I found myself rearing up. My son was born extremely premature 31 years ago and one of the results of that is an overdeveloped startle reflex. He jumps at everything! IVs and needles have him moving even before they touch the skin. So inexperienced or nervous nurses have a hard time. This was the case yesterday when they needed to start a new IV. After multiple attempts the gave up and said he needed a picc line which would be fine if he needed it long term, but it would be removed on Wednesday since it would be near the area they're going in to locate the new pump. When the staff changed, and the new nurse said "I hear you want a picc line," I reacted. No we didn't. We wanted someone who could put in an IV. It caused a lot of commotion, but eventually they sent someone from ICU who put in not one but two IVs in a matter of minutes. Not having my son undergoing procedures because of someone's lack of ability.
Now, if you're into spiritual stories ...I'm going to share one. If this will offend you please feel free to move on. I couldn't find the spoiler button through the site on my computer.
Anyways, here's what also was happening yesterday during our mini hospital crisis. Over the years, I've had the experience of seeing rainbows whenever something of significance is occurring in my life. Hundreds of rainbows. Unexplainable rainbows. There was a huge rainbow over the hospital when my son was born. Rainbows when loved ones have died. Rainbows when I've been distressed. Being Irish and leaning towards an appreciation of the supernatural, I have always viewed these as reassurances from God. Anyways, when my son unexpectedly developed mental health problems about 6 years ago, I became very angry and resentful with God. My son was born premature, he is physically disabled and confined to a wheelchair, has health concerns, has struggled all of his life to be accepted and productive, and the only thing he could always count on was his sharp, clear mind. And then God allowed that to be taken away as well. And while I'm no longer angry, I stopped seeing rainbows. Recently a friend who is going through a significant health crisis sent me a photo of a rainbow with the caption "I immediately thought of you and your trust in God." And I shared with her that I'd stop seeing them, that it had even been years since I've seen a rainbow. God didn't use them with me anymore. She suggested that maybe she saw one and it was God who had prompted her to share it with me and she was praying I would see one again soon. So yesterday, as I was dealing with this mini-crisis regarding IVs and watching my son become highly agitated, I felt the familiar rising up of needing to stand my ground, to go against what was happening around me and make the right decision for my son. But I was concerned and truth be told, a little panicked. And then I looked outside the hospital window to see an enormously bright and huge rainbow!! I immediately noted the time and shared with my son who calmed down instantly. That rainbow stayed throughout the discussions with hospital personnel and the ICU nurse's successful procedure ... for at least 40 minutes (since I'm not sure when it actually began). Only after everything was done did that rainbow fade. And while the rainbow has left -- He has not.
Have a blessed Sunday.
Beth in Buffalo
Let me add ... within the last month or so, my son's mental health has stabilized and he is almost back to his normal self ... after 6 years of difficulties.18 -
I think I am going to try to find some progesterone here in the drug stores. It sounds like it's something I need.
I am just waiting for my daughter and grands to show up, I will watch the kids when she goes to work.
I don't know what our plans are for the day yet. We have been invited to a gender reveal party for a friends daughter, but I don't really care for the daughter's attitude at times. We may just hang out here at home, hubby had to go into work for a few hours so we can be as loud and noisy as we want!
I went to a yard sale and 4 antique stores yesterday with my youngest. We bought some items for the wedding and my daughter found a Classic Pooh dish set, we bought it for her future children. I found this little tea set for Michaela for Christmas. I couldn't resist it was only $20.00
The furnace has kicked in the last few days and it's damp and cold this morning again. I hope this isn't Fall already.
