Back to Keto?

Entering the third week after stopping Keto, I have not lost weight even though I have been sticking to a 1,500 calorie per day diet. My lowest weight was 206.8 on Keto. I am now at 208.2. If I am not back in the 205 or 206 range by Monday, I am jumping back on the Keto diet to guide me through the final 40 pounds of weight to lose.

I think Keto is great, but I do agree that calories are always important.
I am back on track with keto too; it makes me feel better. I still track calories though so that I learn portion control and such. I never feel deprived when I am doing keto. I do a 1200 calorie diet, just for reference, and have been doing it just since August 1st.2 -

Same here! Keto just eradicates my unhealthy sweet cravings, and helps me tune in to my TRUE hunger cues. I try to eat between 1200-1500cals depending on the level of physical activity that day.2 -

Stop going on and off the various diets. Just simply eat everything in moderation and within your calorie limit.
Yes, this is this simple!!!

I have been consistent going on my third week and nothing as far as weight loss. I have even been starting to do the training for a 5K, thus more exercise. I think what I am doing now may be good for maintenance, but to get to my goal, I have to get back to Keto.2 -
I counted calories to maintain a calorie deficit by eating less and running 30+ miles a week. I lost 50 pounds. As soon as I relaxed a bit the weight came back and I gained 30 pounds. I started Keto on July 10th and lost 16 pounds since. I don't count calories, I eat when I am hungry so it is a lifestyle that I am very comfortable with. I am also intrigued by the theories as how this may mimic the way we eating before processed grains and sugars. I am also reading a book "Tripping over the truth" which is exploring the relationship between cancer growth and glucose supply. I am still new to LCHF diet but I like how I feel, how it effects my appetite and ability to lose weight. I plan on continuing my research and the LCHF lifestyle indefinitely. I look forward to getting my blood work done to see how my cholesterol levels respond but will wait until I reach my desired weight first.2

I tried the Keto diet and while it had benefits was horrible for me. I had kidney issues and GI issues with it. I want continue doing a low carb diet but maybe not a strict 20 g a day and not quite such a high fat diet. I need to get back to tracking calories and exercising regularly.0

You are probably just carrying more water weight. Disclosure, I don't do keto myself, but I understand that this is pretty typical when going off keto. Reintroducing carbs replenished your glycogen stores, which leads to more water retention.6

Three weeks is not consistent, it's the blink of an eye. When you switch between carb levels it screws with your water weight, you have no doubt been putting some water back on. You need to give any plan at least 4-6 weeks if you want to give it a fair shot.
You can go back to keto if that's what you are most comfortable with, I don't remember why you decided to stop. But 3 weeks off and then back on is just playing musical chairs with water weight. Good luck whatever you decide!15 -

The 2 pounds is probably water weight due to resuming a higher carb diet. If you just started new/more activity you are probably retaining due to DOMS. If you are truly consuming 1500 calories then you will lose. How are you accounting for what you consume? Are you weighing, measuring or eyeballing your food? Keto still requires a calorie deficit to lose. Those who lose large amounts when they start are losing mostly water due to depletion of glycogen. Agree with the others - 4-6 weeks on any plan before deciding if it is working or not.7 -

So you are eating very low calories, have become more active and eat more carbs.... So stress + increase activity + more carbs = more water weight storage. I can lose 5-7 lbs (and do weekly) going keto or close to it. I also subsequently, regain when I carb refeed (minus my fat loss).
Personally, be consistent for a few months, but also increase you intake. Unless you are looking to lose muscle, 1500 calories is severely low for an active male.10 -
I just started back on Keto too and am in my 2nd full day! I forgot how mich I love this WOE and am always looking for Keto friends with open diaries!4

It's been just three weeks and you've started a new training program that involves more exercise (something that is known to temporarily add water weight). I would give it more time before you conclude that a calorie deficit doesn't work for you.7 -

I agree that it probably is water weight. You can gain a few pounds of water just by increasing carbs (and insulin). Staring a new exercise program may cause some extra water retention in muscle too.
If you like keto and find it helpful to losing weight, then go for it. If you prefer to not be keto, I would be patient with that water weight.
Best wishes.2 -

I am in month five of this WOE and have dropped fifty pounds. I am a male, doing ~1300 cals, 30g carbs, 98g fat and ~100g protein per day.
To me, this WOE is not about weight loss per se. It is about detoxing your body and letting it normalize. Weight loss will occur naturally as your body transitions from glycogenesis to being ketogenic.
Besides being very low carb, this WOE is naturally very low in sugar.
The anti-inflammatory effects of this WOE are also very obvious, and some of which are not obvious. I went to the dentist the other day after not going for nearly two years. The hygienist was amazed at the condition of my gums, of all things. She said she would have never known that I had been away for so long because they were in perfect condition! No pockets, no bleeding during cleaning, barely a bit of plaque and no inflammation at all! Something I never even thought about. That was very inspirational to me because having those gums not swollen nor inflamed was an amazing benefit of which I never thought. So of course we started chattering away about keto. Kind of funny too because your mouth is usually full of dental equipment. And she's asking me all these questions and stopping the cleaning to hear the answers. The cleaning took a lot longer, but it didn't matter because keto'ers are always happy to talk about the diet.
Other posters here are correct in saying that one should find something that works and stick to it. Keto is such a drastic change in diet that jumping in and out of it is probably not going to be very effective.12 -

Totally this^ plus how sure are you of logging accuracy? Weighing everything on a food scale? Capturing everything?1 -

Yes, weighing food and logging it all. How many calories should I eat? I would like to lose 2 pounds per week, at the least one pound per week. I am 51, 5-9 and 207 pounds.0 -

Can i ask what you think you are detoxing? All you are doing is doing is switching substrates, so inceasing fat oxidation (from increased fat consumption) and reducing carb oxidation (from decreasing carbs). Glucenogenesis occurs more while following keto as glucenogenesis is the process of converting amino acids and fatty acids into glucose.6 -

You aren't that over weight, so 2 lbs of fat per week might be aggressive.
But you need to normalize post keto before you will see those rates. Changing multiple variables at the same time is making it harder for you. And keeping low calorie might not be beneficial to this process. And it may be worth taking a diet break and them come back to it.6 -

Detoxing comes from eating as cleanly as possible, no nitrates, nitrites, nor anything artificial. My kitchen is ~90 organic. I can tell the difference, whether real or imagined. Three of the numerous organic items I have in my kitchen are the ones where I can tell the difference just by taste. Organic cottage cheese(a bit drier than regular, but tastes cleaner), organic pickles(very clean tasting) and organic grape tomatoes(much sweeter than regular). Everything else tastes pretty much the same to me.11 -

Ok, it's more of a belief/placebo then anything else. Because a body naturally detoxes itself through liver and intestines.
Glad you are enjoying it, though. Personally, I only organic when it taste better, because there is no evidence that organic is better than non. I actually have found that some locally grown/grass fed has been more beneficial in some instances.5 -
