SAY "NO" TO LATE NIGHT SNACKING -- OCTOBER 2018 CHALLENGE

Tired of self-sabotaging by munching after dinner? Upset that you double your in-calories at night? Then it's not just me . To get some help (or inspire us by your good example), please join us in this challenge.
You set what you feel is late night snacking. For example, if you have extra calories left for the day, you can have a snack if it's small. Others decide not to eat at a past a certain time. It's up to you.
We go by the formula:
Me: "number indicating how many evenings you stuck to it"
LNS: "number of times late night snacks won"
Example: Me: 2 - LNS: 0 indicates I won the first two nights.
Some people also add a * to the latest number. In the example, that would be
Me: 2 - LNS: 1*
if LNS won the 3rd night.
It's as simple as that. Or as complicated, as you will discover. Nevertheless, the persistence and good results of some of our "old" members (and some people keep coming back) show that the battle is worthwhile .
You will notice some people post streaks of how many days they are free of late night snacking. This is definitely not a requirement, but if you want to do it for motivation, it works well.
Welcome!

OK. I really need this challenge now.
My biggest problem is, I wake up in the middle of the night and eat. I seem to have zero control over it... I just wake up and go into auto-pilot mode and head downstairs to the kitchen and eat whatever I can find. It's immensely frustrating for me, because I go to bed each night thinking "I will not eat tonight," but I always fail.
I've been trying to figure out WHY I'm doing this, and what I'm trying to accomplish by eating in the middle of the night. From what I can determine, my brain thinks I can't go back to sleep without eating, so I need to teach my brain that I CAN go back to sleep without eating.
I can't change the fact that I wake up multiple times per night (although I plan to talk to my doctor about it some more this weekend), but I can change what I do when I wake up.
Maybe having some accountability here will help me. It'll probably be difficult at first, but I think I can do it.
So, here we go. Day one. Starting with a clean slate. Me: 0 LNS: 09 -
I'll give it a go!

I can't even imagine this.
I try to not even get out of bed to use the bathroom.
How full are you when you go to bed?
Have you tried going to bed while really stuffed, then your body may not wake up looking to feed itself?
Can you make it a bit difficult for you to leave your room, or to get into the kitchen/pantry?

I understand. I did this for over twenty years almost every night and then the desire ended. I don't know why it started or stopped. I tried chain locks on my kitchen cabinets where I kept food, but couldn't chain the fridge. Sometimes I would wake up in the morning wondering if I ate and I could see crumbs on the cabinet and knew that I had. I always felt like it was kind of like sleep walking, sometimes more asleep than other times. I think if it ever starts again, I might try hypnosis. Good luck to you.

Well, I tried. I really did. But the urge to eat in the middle of the night won again.
I've tried just about everything to stop this behavior. I don't even keep snacks or junk food in the house. Yet I always find something to eat, even if I have to physically put it together or cook it. Yes, I've cooked in the middle of the night.
The only thing that worked in the past and allowed me to lose any weight was sleep meds (Lunesta) that kept me from waking up in the first place. But that stopped working after about a year, and I've tried just about every other sleep med out there (including OTC stuff like melatonin) and nothing keeps me asleep. I'm seeing my doctor this Saturday and I'm going to ask her if there's anything new out there that I haven't tried. Because this is seriously sabotaging my efforts to maintain my weight loss.
So, what's the score?

DH opened up a HUGE BJ's-size bag of candy corn.
I had to run away from him to not tempt myself.
WHY did he have to buy that huge bag?
Halloween is going to be death of me, all those little Snack-size, especially the Snickers.
ooooohhhh.

I bought a bag of candy corn, was settling in to eat it last night, and I’m like- wait! I’m in a challenge- stop! So I recorded the candy corn I ate, about one serving, then closed it up and put it away and didn’t even pine for it. Thanks, LNS challenge!!4
