Meg Khan Academy for nursing students! I had no idea. Barbara Yes I think Khan Academy would be sorta fun for you, too! It's sorta fun for me! Once my grandson gets started on it, he sticks with it for a long time. I think he likes the instant feedback/reward system with the pleasant "ding" when he answers questions correctly.
Machka Yay for comfortable cheap shoes! I wear Crocs. To me, they are like walking on a cloud. I throw them away when my knees or feet start hurting. Every night the pair I am wearing goes into the washing machine. I work in a medical environment, so everything goes in the washer after work.
Barbie Friends rave about the Good Feet Store here. The store where you buy your shoes sounds similar. Those SAS shoes look very sturdy and comfortable. p.s. that was quite a wind storm you had!
Sue That's a long time to wait for an abnormal test to be addressed.
DrKatie That flooring is beautiful. Your laundry room looks great & functional.
NYKAREN Yesterday I realized I didn't have to work. That made me giddy. I hope your meeting really is productive.
Janetr (((Hugs))) Lots of us here have distorted body images. We understand.
Lisa You're funny about the burly oilfield guys lifting off the ground in their assigned seats at the same time as everybody else. And I've been meaning to ask you - what drama? You've mentioned this before but I don't remember what the drama is about.
Carol My utmost empathy over the refrigerator. It's been less than a month since we went through the same thing and lost our entire refrigerator full of food. We got through it with humor & resolve & teamwork.
Heather Oh such pretty pink stuff. That photo is a lovely start to my day.
Nettie Welcome. Do you have Asperger's syndrome? Is that the same as HFA? In any case, this is a perfect group for you. We are welcoming and not judgmental. Many of us are introverts.
Karen in Virginia, heading out to home-school my grandson soon
p.s. Margaret This is for you:

My mother and someone who works with podiatrists both suggested Crocs to me, but I find them way too wide. I can't keep them on my feet.
Unless there's a narrow version of them I'm haven't tried ...

Another assignment done!
Just the two big ones to go!!
Busy 3 weeks ahead!
I'm hoping to tune out all the organisations clamouring for updates and decisions from me regarding my husband for those 3 weeks. For the most part anyway.
I have described it as "herding cats" ... one organisation wants this, another organisation wants that (the complete opposite), and other organisations want heaps of other things. And they all want meetings with me!!
It's no wonder I'm exhausted.
But I'm trying to think of it as "Developing Leadership Skills".

Went to Lowes and purchased a new refrigerator (Frigidaire) with French doors and a 3rd drawer. Will be delivered tomorrow. Right now we have 4 coolers filled with food and ice. Don't know how much we will have to throw out. Just thankful that we are blessed and have the ability to deal with these things that just happen if you own a home.
Just purchased a pair of Crocs on Amazon. Hoping they will fit!

Mama impatiently corrected Papa's usage all the time. Wish such correctors could see the pain they cause? An adult's usage is what it is and unlikely to change. Such feedback should be provided only if someone is actively trying to standardize their speech and has asked for such help. Mama corrected me as a child, appropriately, which gave me a good foundation for which I'm grateful. I sure resented how she treated Papa. Time to use some of that assertiveness training on your husband. Either he finds a humorous/acceptable way to alert you to your non-standard usages, or he says NOTHING. Woof! Didn't realize I was so passionate about this topic.
Barbie I'm afraid to sign up for the Be more with less challenge. Pretty sure I could make do with only 33 wardrobe items for 3 months, but then would the fashion and declutter police make me get rid of everything else? Oh NOOOOOO!
Barbara, There is a similar theme to these comments on these two subjects. It doesn't help to know how to change until one has embraced the reason why and has come to desire the change. My husband makes a bunch of grammatical and pronunciation errors and is frequently (but not always) interested in my letting him know the correct way to express himself. But if he doesn't ask, I say nothing. On the subject of being more with less, one has to embrace the wisdom of owning less before any of the "how to" makes any sense. Once I realized that I was wearing the same stuff over and over, it made it easier to discard all the stuff that I never used. What I like about a small wardrobe and a small pantry is that I am not overwhelmed with decision fatigue every day. So much of what I do requires no decision making at all so when something important comes along (like when we recently changed homeowners insurance, car insurance, and cell phone carrier), it is not so exhausting to participate in the decision making process.
I wore high heels to work for years and one day made a change in my wardrobe and bought a pair of Mary Jane's to wear with my dresses and got rid of all the high heels. I put them in the "dress up" center in my first grade classroom and enjoyed watching children wearing them for fun with the prom dresses I bought at thrift shops.
It got really cold overnight so I put an extra blanket on my bed and wore a warmer coat to walk the dogs before breakfast.

Those are Crocs? The only ones I've ever seen look like this:

Carol, I love the picture of your Crocs. Hope they fit you. I love Crocs. My feet are so hard to work with...bunions and hammertoes and bones that stick out on top. Love the looks of your Crocs...

I used to wear 4-5" heels all the time. I wore them to classes and to work. I'd even jog between classes in them!!
But I got rid of most of them just before I moved to Australia, and now anything over about 2" feels like my feet are going to shatter into 1000 pieces.

Hi ladies, I'm back - again. A lot going on here in Vermont. Leaves are quickly changing and I'm not ready. Finally got my cast off, transitioned to the boot, and now I'm in sneakers and doing PT twice a week. Foot feels pretty good. Now it's my husband's time for health issues. Insomnia (sleeps about 4 hours with a strong sleeping pill) and heart issues. He may need a pacemaker. He did have a monitor put in to record what was going on. We've had a few emergency room visits. Another dr's visit on Monday and we are hoping to get some answers then.
My eating is out of control again and I've gained 10 of the 30lbs I lost. This is adding to my stress. I'm going to try to keep checking in with the group as I need all the support I can get.
When I get a minute, I'll read the current posts to see what you all have been up to.
Terry, trying to hold it together in VT4 -
Machka your shoe shop thoughts made me smile. Can you afford to buy backup pairs of the comfortable boots? Don't suppose you could have one big coordinating meeting with representatives from all those demanding organizations? So you could update them all at once and ask them to reconcile their conflicting wants?
Lisa how about asking those burly oilfield guys to help you up those killer stairs, since no elevator nor scooter available? An appeal to their gentlemanly side might be to everyone's benefit? Bat those lashes, gal!
Allie, Alfie barking at the commercials has me chuckling. Tumble barks every time a doorbell rings on TV.
NYKaren (and Karen in VA) Found time is the best! Great re-framing.
Heather Ooooh! Pink scarf, leather gloves and rosebuds. Lovely!
Welcome NettieBess. You have taken two of the most important steps, going to the gym Monday and checking in here. The wisdom, compassion, caring here are truly amazing, then when all else fails, there is pip's boot. The next step is to log every bite lick or sip. You can do it!
Okie pics please of you in magenta gloves... and whatever else you wear with them. Not looking for Rebecca/Sharon postcards...
Karen in VA I've seen the she-shed commercial zillions of times, and only just realized the husband is holding the hose pointing down, not trying to squirt the flames at all...
Carol, so very sorry about your fridge and food. Seems these new appliances are "disposable" not fixable. :anger:
Barbie you are so wise to structure the "things" to avoid decision fatigue. Perhaps a seed has been planted...

Barbara, wow such colorful crocs! Amazing... :-) I've never worn heels.....but I'm imagining M in Oz running in 5" heels. Gads...
Everyone have a wonderful day.

Good Morning & Happy October Ladies I was 1 pound ahead of my final goal for the month! Today we leave for 5 days for a family reunion. I am going to track the best I can since I won't be in control of making all my food. (Besides I live by the rule: It is impossible for 1 unhealthy meal to make you fat and 1 healthy meal cannot make you skinny) It's what we do on a consistent basis that is key to our success. I am taking my gym clothes with me. I do believe there is a PF gym in the town we are headed.
I am enjoying the cooler weather and the changing colors of all the leaves on the trees. Yes, October has finally arrived. My goal for this month is to hit the 20 pound weight loss goal since beginning my journey with MFP the end of July.
Wishing you all a productive day.5 -

I was still awake, hadnt gone to bed then. Have had a very stressful couple of days with daughters and grandkids drama. Ugh! Finally slept about 3.5 hours.
Hope the fridge situation gets taken care of today. Big hugs!!

MachkaYes! I buy multiple pairs of shoes that don’t blister my feet because it is just so hard to find them!
All my shoes look like this:
I must be able to slide into them and have nothing firm touching the back of the ankle. To avoid blisters on the top of my feet shoes must be worn with socks Except sandal slides with stretchy fabric uppers. If the croc Carol posted is a fabric upper, I might possibly be able to wear that without blisters. I’m going to go check!
Running shoes etc. Boring, but I wrote it up so you can click into spoiler if you are interested in my shoe woes- lolUnfortunately these are just out of the question. I can’t wear shoes that push against the back of my ankle (the section in the circle). They rub and push there and cause blistering within a short period of time. Back when I had to dress professionally I would buy my shoes a size or two extra long and pad the bottom back area so that nothing touched my back ankle there or use a razor blade and cut off the back of shoes for casual wear.
I have seen two podiatrists in my life and both shrugged their shoulders took my money and gave me no help or even advice. (Another reason in a long list of why I hate Dr’s.)
Barbie’s shoes would kill me!
The first place my socks wear out is not on the bottom, but at the back there where they touch my ankle.
Busy Busy Busy here bit sending out good thoughts!

Heather: I am happy that you had such a lovely birthday. We have tried to make Scotch Eggs with no success. Will you share your recipe? Keeping my fingers crossed for the real estate deal to go through. :flowerforyou:
Carol: Your orthopedic doctor doesn’t sound very helpful. I’m hope your internist is more proactive.
Barbie: That is an impressive pile of tree branches. I’m glad your home is okay. Regarding shoes, those that fit well make life much better.
Dr. Katie: You did an impressive job in your laundry room. WTG!!!
Michele: I hope that things are reasonably reasonable until you are able to get out of the crossfire in the Newcomers group. :grumble:
Machka: I also have narrow feet. As a kid, I usually had terrible blisters on my heels. The need for narrow fitting shoes hasn’t changed over the years, but I have found ways to stay comfortable most of the time. Finding new shoes that fit is a huge challenge and a trill when I succeed. :ohwell:
Janetr: I’m opposed to your daughter hurting your feelings. Tell her I said so. :grumble:
It is time to take the dog to the groomer. Have a great day, everyone!

Barbara - I think the last 10lbs must be the hardest to lose. I weighed myself at GNC and that showed I weighed 153; then I got weighed at my Orthopedist's office at 151. I don't feel like I have lost 10lbs since I was going to my MD's office to weigh (but have another appointment with her in early November.
Last evening Louis and I met with my 'sleep apnea' MD and I have been keeping up with my 'sleep patterns' since 6/26 - 10/1. It's been since mid-November of last year since I have been able to drive; and, he again 'extended' my 'driving restriction' until he can get with my Neurologist to discuss if 'he' thinks I should go through a study that would show if I also have Narcolepsy, or not. Then, if he 'thinks' it could be a possibility they can put me through a different type of 'sleep study' that would show them if that is the problem. What I would do is come 'sleep' through the night without my C-pap and then sit across the table with someone watching me the next day and keeping up when I nod off or go down for the count and end up sleeping sitting up. That will probably have to be done at Phoebe N/W. So, almost a full year without driving - this time has been the worst for me. Even worse than the back-to-back DR with only 2 or 3 months in between. This has been continuous for nearly a full year. I understand the necessity of the 'driving restriction' but it still doesn't make me 'happy' about my family having to be "Driving Miss Daisy" because it is inconvenient for them. I burst into tears when he said, 'Nah, Sweetie, it is the best thing for you at this time - no driving'. Seems like at the age of 67 - my driving is going to be taken away from me. But, the 'sleep apnea' MD said only my Neurologist could make that final decision - he'll have to be convinced that I am seizure free first; there are medications to take if I am diagnosed with Narcolepsy; but, that would 'scare' me more than the thought of having a 'break-thru' seizure.
So, if I ramble or write long posts; it's because I am terribly lonely when I am not up and doing something. I think my 'nagging' Louis is going to start up with a vengeance. I want him to do things (such as getting my kitchen cabinets painted, finish my porch so I can enjoy it in the morning especially. Helping me empty the studio, put down some sort of flooring that isn't pieces of filthy carpet. Getting all my paint stuff together so I can 'enjoy' painting and drawing again.
Well, so much for my 'mood' of the day!

Hi and morning all (from middle Tennessee USA). Lisa, age 54 here. Height: 5-7-1/2. Current weight: 187. Target: 145-155. The weather here has been off and on cool and rainy or warm and muggy. Summer is still trying to hold on here. We're just NE of Nashville.
I can't post any Sept stats as I came into this late Sept. However, I made a commitment at that time to get rid of 40 lbs of fat, gain significant muscle, and become healthier (hopefully with significant results by my 55th birthday in January). I started eating right (after a couple of years off due to health) and cut out ALL processed sugar. I'm starting to really feel better.
Last week, I started my weight training again, lifting dumbbells, doing squats and lunges, and all that sort of thing. Did so on Monday of this week, and BOY am I sore. I was going to do some cardio via Zumba yesterday, but my back was killing me (probably from overdoing hip raises). Today, it's back to the strength training workout, soreness or not.
I workout at home due to disabilities and being unable to drive. The nearest gym of any kind is 20 miles away.
My goals for October:
1. Get rid of some of this fat. I'm still adjusting my intake and exercise routine, but am determined and committed to it, and to progress, rather than perfection. I'm focussing on form rather than weight.
2. Gain strength. I know muscle development will come in time, but most likely I won't see results by the end of October. I trust the process and know it will come. Right now I'm targeting the major muscle groups and core.
3. Increase my cardio workouts on off days (T, Th, Sat) to get through an hour long Zumba, Kickboxing, or Jazzercise routine (I have DVDs).
4. Get back into Tai Chi and Belly dance. With Tai Chi, I hope to be able to do the 24 form without stopping to look at the DVD or chart. It's a stretch. Bellydance, basically this is for fun but I do hope for some progress here.
5. My daughter and husband have jumped on this bandwagon with me and we hope to get our daily walks in and at least a mile with good time. I'm still seeing what's good time. My hubby is still on leave due to an accident at work and his ankle (broken) is still healing.
6. We hope to purchase an elliptical machine this month as well and use it regularly. Mainly, I want one for warmups.
7. Clothing goal: fit in to the larger of my old jeans. I went from a size 10 to a size 14 in my illness stage. I'd like to be able to get into the 12s. Comfortably, that is.
My overall goal for the end of October is improvement in all areas and to have a set goal for each area so November won't be so iffy.
My "gym at home". What used to be our dining area. We moved the table into our kitchen (more room for it there anyway).
Currently me:

Yesterday's appointment went well with husband. Pretty much a meet and greet again with the transplant team in Washington university hospital, and told results of the testing they did last week. His numbers are good. His new(2014) liver is getting a bit fatty, but its nothing he's doing. He's eating well, and exercising. They were supposed to do a liver biopsy test yesterday, a non evasive one, but their machine wasn't working. The doctor just said, we could do it next checkup, so we want yearly appointment to be August, so next August.👍.
On the way home we went to a Mexican restaurant in Mount Vernon. Its been there since 1967 so that's a good sign. I had a chimachanga. I took some home and had for dinner!
I'm on this 14 day cleanse thing, because I have been feeling bound up a bit. (Mexican food probably wasn't the best). I hadn't taken the herbal pills in the morning, because of the drive to Seattle. In a car when cleanse pills hit is something out of a horror movie! Could see me yelling at my husband on the freeway, oh pleeeease take this exit!!!
Back on the cleanse today. Making some bean soup and cabbage, which will just clean me out! To be honest I haven't been eating THAT much crap, but when you eat clean, you definitely notice when you don't.
Thanks ladies for your comments concerning my decision not to attend Nov. gathering. The icing on the cake was after I posted my decline in the group messenger site I added, "cousin, you should hit up Cindy (my sister) for a driving companion". Then I get a private message from my sister telling me to not try to set plans up. I knew she told me she didn't want to room with anyone at a hotel. I just didn't think it covered transportation too! She is the sister that drinks. I'm thinking she needs her space so she can do that freely. So I am kinda relieved I don't have to be in all that. Sometimes my thoughts tumble out of my mouth before I have a chance to review them.
Gym today!
Layers ladies, hugs!💗

Did my run. Listened to Winterreise and Simple Gifts.
DH did a big shop.
Cooked a big ragu in the IP to have with butternut squash and lots to freeze.
Both of us had trouble sleeping last night. I read from 3.30 - 5.00. My own fault as it was definitely alcohol related. DH just couldn't get to sleep, so we parted company. I'm reading a book about happiness by a neurologist and the bit I was reading was about the importance we attach to 'home'. Tell me about it! With us it's more the not knowing where home will be. I am a very visual person and I keep having to stop myself visualising any scenario. My future life stops about a week away.
But life goes on and we are both fine. Frustrated but fine. Even happy.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx2 -
Katla. Thank you, made me laugh. I actually think her attitude towards me was directed at the wrong person. She's going through a rough time right now. I just have to let it go

Rebecca congrats to you on declining the invitation to the event you didn't feel comfortable going to. One of the best things I did for myself was to learn a few phrases to you use when I said "No" to something I didn't want to do. I learned that I don't have to explain, just be kind and polite.
Lisa from middle TN, I am most impressed by the fact that you didn't let disability or not driving being your excuse for not exercising. You have found an awesome way to be active withing the limitations of your life. Keep coming back. We need your inspirational attitude.
More about shoes. When I find a pair of shoes that are comfortable, I keep the tag from the box with the model and size so I can look for them online. I have done that with several pairs of shoes. Also, buying more than one pair, in case the company stops making them. Comfort is very important to me, especially since I walk so much.
The maintenance guys from our park came and started removing the branches from our yard. We don't know yet if the owner of the park will agree to pay the cost of repair to the fence. We have homeowners insurance, but the branches came from a tree that belongs to the park.
Jake has gone to a doctor's appointment and blood tests so I have the house to myself to watch DWTS without having to wear the headphones. I still can't ride the exercise bike while watching TV---maybe next week.

Sue in WA - 3 weeks is a long time to wait for abnormal test results.
Barbara - My husband has gotten better about it over the last few months. It takes a lot for me to speak my mind, but he always listens when I do.
Lisa - I love how you described the oilfield men. It's so true, I don't know why anyone rushes to get onto the plane.
Karen in VA - I just love that she-shed commercial
Katie - Love the new flooring, so bright and pretty.
Machka - Learning leadership skills is a great way to look at all of this directing you are being forced to do
Carol - I fear what would happen if we had an appliance issue like a fridge or stove. We have been living paycheque to paycheque for way too many years.
Lenora - I fear being lonely when I am older. Even when hubby is home sometimes I feel lonely. I feel for you. Hugs.
Rebecca - "Thoughts without review" I do that way too often myself.
Had an unexpected overnight visit with our grandson last night as our granddaughter had to have minor surgery this morning. I picked him up on my way home yesterday and then dropped him at school this morning. I didn't realize I had nothing in the house really for a child's breakfast so we ate out at McDonald's this morning. He thought that was a really special treat. My granddaughter had to have her lip tie cut it was causing a large gap in her teeth and they think may cause speech problems. She went in for her procedure at 729 and was back in recovery and awake by 751. She told the nurse when she woke up that she was hungry and had a good nap.
I know some of you have had broken toes, I think I may have broken mine next to my big toe. What did you do for pain, and did you see anyone to have it confirmed? I'm in a lot of pain and not sure what I should do about it.
