Happened to me. After I changed my life, I had about three months where I struggled to get to 1000 calories. I just had no appetite at all. It was great.
So what’s your issue with it?
Great for you, but you know as well as I do that 9/10 people who are posting this sort of thread just aren't logging right or are in the "I've just started my diet" novelty phase where the hunger just hasn't kicked in yet. It just happens to irritate me a little bit, I am sure there are plenty of threads you wander into yourself that make you eyeroll for whatever reason.
Actually, I don’t know that. I know that that is the assumption that everybody makes, but that’s not at all the same thing.
Ok, maybe you don't see as many of these threads as I do, but in almost all of them, once you speak to the OP this is normally the case. I don't make assumptions, I ask questions of the OP.
So you’re not one of the people who always jumps all over the posters of those threads saying that that it’s impossible for someone who was eating 3000 kcal to now not be hungry on 1000? Good to know.
Unlike all the people who have just wooed me rather than accepting new information, I presume22 -

I'm just guessing, but I think they wooed you because you said you had no appetite, you were eating under 1000 calories and:It was great.

On the subject of the OP, however:
“I’m eating 1200 calories and I’m gaining weight; could I be gaining muscle?”
BASIC PHYSICS SAYS NO.
Honestly, where do people think that extra mass is going to come from?8 -

I am not, it just irks me when I do see the majority of these posts, it doesn't stop me responding to the posts with an open mind, I have often suggested to those who have a hard time with appetite of switching to more calorie dense foods if they can't manage a high volume of food.
Full disclosure, I didn't woo you, it's your personal experience and I think it's daft when people woo people's personal experiences (the woo button is another thing that irritates me ) , unless they are trying to dictate anecdotal experience as scientific proof of something.5 -
This thread should be a sticky on what not to say or ask before posting. Yikes!

"Insulin" - how it's the boogeyman for all things fat related.
"Fat for Fuel" - the conflation of burning body fat during a deficit (something we do naturally) and burning dietary fat in a high fat diet. Not slamming keto. As I always qualify my keto comments. It works, but it's not magic. I think many interchange those terms on purpose - especially those with products to sell.
"Lose up to XX pounds and YY inches in your first week"
"I've been working out for two weeks and I've gained X pounds of muscle because cardio"
And a whole bunch of others already mentioned.

What part of that is wooable? I’d spent my entire life craving food. Being completely released from that ‘hunger’ was great.
I mean, the undereating wasn’t great, but having no appetite was the absolute best and I miss it.10 -
You can't out run a bad diet...Pppfff, watch me

Virtually every bit of idiocy spouted by "Celebrity Nutritionist" Kerry Glassman on Netflix's "Cook Your A-- Off".
To wit from E4:- For anyone trying to lose weight, white pasta is not the way to go. (False. About context and dosage.)
- And we could run a whole laundry list of artificial color and fillers and other things that are in many packaged frozen products as well. (Possibly true, but without naming the substances and explaining the problem, it's all fearmongering about 'teh chemikillz')

Searching anything health or fitness on Pinterest will result in bad science bingo. You can get all of the quacky, garbage nonsense represented in one easy place. I wish they had report capabilities.4

"If you're on a diet, why are you eating THAT?"
Ummm excuse me but I perfectly portioned this cookie into my plan today so if you don't back off....

Co-worker on a keto diet: I had a cupcake for dinner last night because I wanted a cupcake.
Me: I thought cupcakes were not keto-friendly?
Co-worker: Oh I reached goal so now I'm loosening the rules!5 -

Happened to me. After I changed my life, I had about three months where I struggled to get to 1000 calories. I just had no appetite at all. It was great.

OK. My issue is this: when you root down into what's going on, the vast majority of the time real food (albeit very nutrient dense, often unhealthy and in large amounts) is being replaced by scads of rabbit food. AKA diet food. And it really is difficult to get in 1000 calories worth of undressed lettuce and celery sticks. And enough for many people to have no appetite. Then add in the euphoria of wanting to lose weight and the excitement of how you can 'goose' your weight loss by limiting your calories and so many people just aren't 'hungry' enough to eat their 1200 or 1400 calories.
So, in the short run, they can't get enough calories in. But as soon as the dam bursts, (or gut), these same people are back eating the same crap they were eating before.
So, yeah, it's a generalization. But one that matches many of the experiences of people who participate in these boards. And, yes, not everybody fits into the generalization. But many do.5 -

Omg. Glad I'm not the only hater who thinks this whenever I see one of those threads. It really makes me curious what the *kitten* they are eating, I have to play ridiculous calorie tetris to stay under 1450.
Mine are-
"BMI doesn't account for muscle" which is always said by someone who does not work out
The insulin hypothesis

You HAVE to eat grains and meat in order to live 🤦🏻♀️1

Placebos have shown that 95% of people claiming a gluten intolerance simply have psychosomatic symptoms.
Unless you have autoimmune disease like I do. The ONLY way I lose weight or not go through the day in pain, is to avoid gluten at all costs. So no, very real to me. I must be one of the mere 5%. Interesting numbers. I’d like to see where those facts are located.

You have to do a specific plan, WOE, or subscribe to a particular philosophy to lose weight, be it juicing, WW, vegan, paleo, alkaline vegan, etc.
Just eat less and move some.

I get a bit tired of people setting unrealistic deadlines or losing weight to fit into a piece of clothing. It just seems like they are setting themselves up unnecessarily to be frustrated.
I wish people would stop being dramatic over 2 lb gain or overeating one day. It is particularly sad when they call themselves names.5 -
One I would get from my mom was - "you don't want to lift weights, you'll get muscles" - DUH that's the whole point. I like to jest that she belonged to the diet of the month club.
Oh and on the other side, "you've lost so much weight, you can have a little XXX." said by too many relatives.happytree923 wrote: »Omg. I love that "calorie tetris" ! I'm stealing that one!
I do WW and MFP - needed more data than I was getting with WW, but need the accountability WW gives.1
