@juliet3455 I see @bubblegum2fitness has taken slot 6, so I'll see what I can do about slot 5 but I can't promise anything, hence my reluctance to put my name down...basically, with the mileage I run and the early nights I get throughout the week, the weekends are pretty much reserved entirely for family to do whatever they wish to do. If someone else can definitely run that slot, then please do, but if not then as I said, I'll see what I can do. Again, that comes with the caveat of no promises.
Today was a long run of a little over full marathon distance at an easy pace - the purpose being purely to maintain endurance, and help push my body to utilize fat for fuel as much as possible. My Friday long runs will now be alternating between this type of steady-paced full distance run, and the 22-miler I did last week where the pace is increased slowly to within 10% of marathon pace.
Temps were absolutely awesome, starting off at 63F and dropping down to the upper 50s, which helped keep my heart rate down so that it averaged 137 bpm over the entire run. It's a stark contrast to running in the heat and humidity, where it was basically impossible to run without my heart rate being in Z3 or above; this time, only 5% of the run was in Z3 (towards the end) - the rest of the run was spent in Z1 and Z2.

@garygse If you want slot 6, I could do slot 5. I just know I couldn't do 2 hours.0
-
@shanaber I took the 8 am slot earlier today. Sorry to hear about your ankle. More hugs to Hobbes. I have to wait till Thursday for my pathology results. It takes so long.
Welcome back @7lenny7
Have a great time officiating the wedding @ PastorVincent
I caught up on the posts! I caught a cold and am feeling miserable. I tried to talk myself out of bed and into running every morning, but it never happened. I will definitely do it for Dennis on Sunday though.4 -
@bubblegum2fitness Slot 6 is just half an hour, if I'm reading things correctly. I don't mind running an hour or two...it's just up to the family if there's some last-minute thing that they suddenly want to do, or we end up spending time at my in-laws...this type of unplanned stuff crops up at weekends, so I can't say for sure that I'll be running. As I said, I'll try, but no promises.0
-
No run today. Just got back from wedding tasks and the rehearsal. Tomorrow is the big show!8
-
@garygse what slot is needing filling? It turns out that I can start my boat work earlier than I thought and will have time available Sunday morning. I could take up to an hour.
ETA: it looks like the open slots, 5 & 6, are Saturday night 8pm to 10 pm central time, which I can't do.0 -
Hi all. I was going to do some strength training but decided to have today as a total rest day asy calves are starting to complain a bit. And I'm really glad I did. End of the day and despite doing over 10k steps running around after small children my calves are not complaining. Tomorrow is a rest day from running but I'm tempted to do a fitness 1000 calorie workout. They are a combination of HIIT, total body strength and abs. I've done a couple of them and they are an awesome challenge to do from time to time. I feel like I could use the challenge haha. Also need the stress relief.
I'll have another look at the empty slots and see if there is an evening run my time I could do before I set my heart of tomorrows workout. ETA the only empty slots are in the middle of the day for me damn.sorry guys1 -
Thanks @RunsOnEspresso for taking my slot! I feel so bad not being able to run for Dennis but I have to believe he would understand!
I keep telling my DH I am going to wait until Saturday night to make up my mind about running on Sunday but he just shakes his head at me. I did call the ortho office for an appointment. They will call me back next week to actually book the appointment.
No word today from the vet on Hobbes' pathology report. I spent the afternoon reading a mast cell cancer FB page and getting super depressed so I got off the computer, snuggled up with Hobbes and read instead. It helped that we are having an amazing thunder and lightening storm the like of which So California rarely gets!5 -
Oh, sorry @RunsonEspresso I didn’t realize you had taken the 8am spot in here. I will take my name off the spreadsheet then.0
-
Didn’t get to run until I got off work at 5 so I did a much shorter run to avoid being out after dark for safety reasons.

@noblsheep , @Scott6255 , @garygse , @LaDispute57 Miles for Dennis - Would one of you be able to pick-up that 2 hour block hours 5 & 6 between Carol and @HonuNui . I have put myself in for the 3 hour gap after @HonuNui which has me starting at 2300 local time - running in the dark like an Ultra Runner. It's a good thing I know all the RCMP ( Police Officers ) in town so I can give them a warning. Planning to run until I have 26.2 km. Water stash at each end of the park trails.
@7lenny7 like @Elise4270 mentioned using the spoiler helps the page load faster as the pictures can load in the background after the main text/images are loaded. Sounds like you had a great summer and that was a great video clip of the water hazard.
I might need to pull out of this project. Woke up this morning with a mammoth headache and am currently coughing my lungs out. I'll see how I feel tomorrow and try to take the first hour of the gap if I can muster it. If not, I'll dedicate my next marathon to Dennis.7 -
21.1 km Memorial Run for Dennis Ley.
World wide group of MFP friends doing 26.2 hrs of running. So wanted 26.2 km but with no taper/rest my legs disappeared at 17km. Struggled through ( lots of walking ) the last 4 km to get a HM distance in.
-1C and a 3km/h east wind so when I was in the tree cover - open the vent zippers, roll up the ear flaps, get out in the open, close vents and cover the ears - so a lot of funky arm movements to close the vent zippers. Found lithium batteries that fit my Black Diamond Headlamp - 3 hours continuous at highest intensity and not a bit of fading. 2:26am local time - crawling into a nice warm bed.

Did you run a day early?
Carol starts everything off in 7 hours, right?0 -
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! TODAY IS THE DAY I MARRY MY BABY SISTER OFF
AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! How did she get so grown up?
Oh, no run today, unless you count running around like a headless chicken getting final things done.17 -
Y'all dont worry if you have life come up or feel under the weather when its time to run in memory of Dennis.
We'll pull this together as a group. If there are holes then there will be holes. Its okay. I like the idea of a time of reflection and rest in the chaos of the virtual relay. Its parallel to lifes ups and downs. The story of his life through our feet and beating hearts.
We're gearing up to travel to our race tomorrow morning. Rain and cold (50's F, 10C) expected to continue here. DH hates running in the rain. I dont mind it. I think it provides a distraction for me. I tend to focus on my pain and areas of weakness on runs. The rain almost offers it's own cadance to grove and connect with, get lost in.

Dang I did - mistranslated the time zone shifts by a full 24hrs. Me bad.
I even had a secondary converter up and now looking at it again realize my error.7 -
Up to 65.5k for October. Did intervals today: 8 minute warmup followed by 6 repetitions of 3 minutes at 10k pace followed by 1 minute of easy pace. Finished off the 7k distance with with what amounted to threshold pace. Much prefer 39 degrees and a light rain to 70 degrees and high humidity.
I'm so proud of my spouse: she signed up for the Casper Crawl 1 mile walk on 10/21 while I'll be running the 5k Spooktacular.7 -

Race recap!
Cool, cloudy, and some sprinkles made for perfect running running weather. I’ve run this course back in May for the Run to Remember and remember that running on grass really sucks. Seeing as I ran a half marathon race 6 days ago and didn’t do much recovery I told myself to take it easy.
Well, I started out fast. I couldn’t really help it. Everyone was so fast around me. I passed people, people passed me... but around the 2 mile marker it thinned out and there wasn’t much passing. I picked off a few people, but there wasn’t enough distance to pick off more
I finished in 25:30, but the course was .09 miles short. Still I’m pretty happy since it was on grass. The muscles around my ankles are already feeling it!
We got to meet our congressman who also ran the race today

It was 41 degrees and raining when I got up, and I was very tempted to put off the long run until tomorrow and crawl back into bed. But, in the name of you never know what you'll get on race day, I made myself go. It was a good chance to test out what I might wear in similar conditions. And it ended up not being so bad. After the first few miles the rain let up to very light and the temp was fine once warmed up. I had gloves on at the start, then took them off, and then was sorry about that so picked them back up again on the next loop.
I was so happy to stop at 15 rather than have to go for 20 again. And now I'm finally officially tapering. Starting to count down in DAYS instead of months and weeks is crazy. 14 days to marathon.

@juliet3455 - It doesn't matter (in my book) that you ran a day early. You ran for Dennis and gave some thought to him, which is what it is all about. I know he could relate to the run that you had, wanting to do 26.2 and the struggle at the end to get to 13.1!
@pastorvincent - Have fun today!!
@Tramboman - It is great that your wife is willing to give it a try! Hopefully she will ave a blast and want to do more!
@zdyb23456 - nice race on the grass! Congratulations!!
@Elise4270 - I have had a hard time resting my foot and not attempting a run just to see... in fact it is raining here (what!?! raining in So California??) and I have just about convinced myself that I must get out and at least try a short rain run. I have been thinking a lot about Dennis again and again during this time and how fortunate we are to be runners and have this group to share with and encourage each other!5 -
@shanaber- Thanks for the kind words. Between us we've lost just about a whole person worth of weight.7

Well you still did an awesome job and it was still for Dennis... That counts for me-and I'm guessing most everyone else on here!
KEEP RUNNING EVERYONE!!!!!

I wanted to run 10k today, felt something in my leg about halfway and decided to play it safe by taking the shorter way home. Turns out I'm totally fine but better safe than sorry. Starting over is HARD! I hadn't signed up for the run for Dennis, mostly because of uncertainties about whether I could do it. Sunday is typically my rest day, though, and I'm feeling like I really need it. So I'll probably just be cheering on the rest of you instead. My HM in August ended up being for Dennis, as thinking about him got me through the difficult miles at the end.
10/1-7 Totals: bike 20.4 km, run 15 km
10/8 - run 5.1k
10/9 - run 4.2k

February 16: City Trail 5k
March 23: City Trail 5k
April 7: Lublin 10k (maybe)
May 12: Lublin Marathon4 -
I just posted a few things over in the relay thread for Dennis. I was looking at the spreadsheet and expected to see some gaps, but only found 2 that were easily fixed. Like Elise said though, I know life happens and even though we have the slots covered, there may be holes and totally understandable. I think it's awesome that we were able to pull something like this together.
@juliet3455 That was an awesome effort to honor Dennis and whether or not it was a day early, the meaning was not lost7 -

@PastorVincent Enjoy the Day. I keep thinking of the singing Irish Priest who nailed Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah at a wedding.2
