Your take on subway.

I noticed that a lot of people think that they eat healthy because they ate at subway. you can easily make your sub as unhealthy as a fast food cheeseburger at subway. Personally I like to eat here because it is filling and low on calories. What is your take on it? Do you think that it is healthy? Please, you opinion would be a help to my choices and goals.
Also, I use this tool to put in all the nutrional info and to build my lunch.

I think it is healthy depending on what you are eating there. I usually get a 6" wheat with provologne and turkey. I only put veggies and mustard on mine. I think that's about 280 calories... don't quote me on that but it is also filling.0

I like subway. i like that it is very low in calories if you choose the right one.0

My take on subway: Really crappy sandwich shop chain that ran a very effective Jared marketing campaign.0

It's ok but not great. The meat is pretty high in sodium.0

i love it! its REALLY REALLY filling along with a diet coke as well and so yummy
its just you got to watch the calorie content including bread
LOVE SUBWAY!0 -
I get double meat on the 6 inch, no cheese, mayo, or sauces loaded with fat or sugar.
That being said, I get Subway maybe twice a year. It's a last resort for me.0 -
Turkey on wheat with mustard and all the veggies - YUMMO0

Many of their 6" sub options are healthy as far as calories. But all of the sandwiches have 1000 mg or more of sodium. So unless you are willing to drink a lot of water on the days you eat Subway, I'd caution to not make it a regular place to eat.0

I love Subway! I always choose one of the healthier subs from the 6grams of fat or less section and watch what all I put on it so I dont get too high in calories, sodium, etc.0

Same here!0 -
I don't think it's 'healthy' - it's bread & processed meat and cheese is just milk fat BUT it is healthier than some other fast food IF you put veggies on it & skip the fat laden dressings - however, some subway footlong sandwiches are 800 calories and more

I like black forest ham. i split a 12'' in lunch and dinner. i eat there rarely, but after i do, i don't feel as guilty as if i were eating a mcmeal :bigsmile:0

By the MILLIONS in fact. Pretty sad actually.0 -
i think it can be healthy! but their food has a lot of sodium depending on what you get. i like the turkey with no mayo and all the veggies! mmmm. if you eat there just get a 6 inch on healthy bread and baked chips with diet soda or unsweetened tea. i tend to only eat there when i feel like eating my fair share of bread! LOL0

i just like the taste. it may not be "healthy" but it is "healthier" then food i was eating 3 months ago. and really, i do better with small changes, so maybe i will cut out subway one day. but for now i'll take "healthier" over a big mac any day, lol!0

I think it's much better than McDonald's. I don't go to Subway as much now because of the price, however, if I need something quick and healthy, then I go there. There are very few choices where I live. Safeway has good sandwiches but they are terribly slow, sushi is good too if there's any left, that's about it, if you don't want burgers in my neighborhood.0

Until they drop the sodium to a normal level, I won't eat there. 1,500 mg a day is the target for most adults (not 2,500) and one 6" sub can approach that number.
I have enough trouble keeping it to 2,500 or less, without the Subway add-on0 -
I like Subway, but it's really easy to totally blow the sodium out of the water... Sometimes I get a veggie and just ad dmy own chicken breast, the turkey is just so high in salt.0

OK in a pinch and not so good when eaten for lunch on a Thursday when there was not excuse not bring food from home except pure laziness. That would be me today. It was not worth it0

While the calories can add up ... I think it a lower impact solution for when you are out and about. If you go to a burger joint, you will be far more tempted and may have a trigger to get fries and other items ... while at Subway it would be pretty difficult to get that high in calories and fat. Although, from what I see some of their newer subs seem to be creeping towards higher calories and more fat.0

I like it. I usually end up gettin the Turkey on Wheat with mozzarella cheese and for veggies I do lettuce, tomato, onion, bell peppers a couple of jalapeños and oregano (sometimes light mayo).
I think people ruin in the minute they add all the dressings. Of course the meatball sub is loaded with sodium and the tuna sub is loaded with calories.0 -
I hate subway. See it has an unhealthy option cause you do not truly know what is in the bread and decide really your portion size as the people behind the counter never listen when you say that is too much! I would make my own as I do not use butter, mayo anymore and only eat brown wheat bread and only use peppers , lettuce , tomatoes , spring onion or cucumber . Never meat!0

I like it for me, it's a healthier option when eating out. I wouldn't eat there every day, but I'd rather take my 400ish calories for a whole meal there, than 500calories (or more!) for a burger across the street0

What he said.0 -
Depends on what you order, but I think it is a great option and have no trouble losing weight even if I'm eating subway regularly. I skip the cheese and usually any dressing too -- opting instead for salt&pepper and oregano. Sometimes I'll use the sweet onion sauce. But I definately think they are a GREAT alternative to other fast food/restaraunt options.0

i dont eat the ham at subway EVER. my cousin works at the processing plant that supplies ham to subways distributor . do.not.eat.the.ham.
then again, if we had insider knowledge of everyplace that produces food, we probably would only eat what we grow!
still i wont eat it.
veggie sub is good but their bread is a bit thick i think. (which is funny because i used to love it!) now its too much bread in each bite for me0 -

The chicken is just as processed as the rest of it, assuming you meant it wasn't and that's why you get it? All you have to do is take one look at their so called chicken breast....it doesn't appear real whatsoever. It's completely pressed together parts.0 -
Personally I'm a fan but just because otherwise it is near impossible to eat vegan on the go, especially when you don't know the town. I find it a reliable place to grab a quick vegan meal if I'm out and about and can't get home. So a 6 inch sandwich with salad and sweet onion sauce is what I have and it probably sets me back under 250cals, but if I wasn't vegan then I do agree how quickly it would be to go unhealthy, especially as I've seen my brother eat a 12inch sub as part of a meal deal.0
