Today's notes – Saw the sports doc today. He said run easy, maybe try some fartleks on Tuesday, it's all about not making it worse, and there's no way around the guessing game of how hard I can run. Just be smart enough to quit if it feels like I aggravate something.
So that visit plus various errands took up my afternoon. Weather was a repeat of yesterday, constant snow drizzle that melted during the day and started sticking in the evening. Got out of my front door about 6 PM to run in the slightly heavier snow that had coated the roads and was slowly accumulating. It's dark, so I work my reflective harness and lights; and I had the Peregrines on in honor of the snow. Ran 5 miles around my neighborhood, and it was very pleasant. Tomorrow morning I'll grumble about having to shovel the driveway again; I'd rather this weather didn't start up till after Christmas. But it is what it is, and I just have to deal with it.
I run outside. In the winter. And when it snows, I leave footprints.

@MobyCarp Yes, absolutely. It’s a nighttime half. Blinky Christmas lights are a priority for everyone’s safety. The race organizers recommend headlamps but I bet I can get away with a strand, or 5, of LED Christmas lights.4 -
I just bought a pair of the Turtle Fur version. I have large hands and I'm hoping that the turtle fur XL are a bit bigger than the L version of what I linked to.
Somehow i think "Turtle fur" and "pocket nuts".... Would be a marketing gold mine. @shanaber ? Pocket fur? Turtle nuts???? Turtle shaped furry pocket for your snacks... Gah! Awesome! Make it runner friendly!

They are a bit pricey for 'holiday runners' but I think I would wear them everywhere for the entire month
@shanaber I never realized that I need a pair of ugly Christmas sweater running shoes until right now...
Look, there is even a matching running outfit!
Don't worry guys. They have ugly Christmas sweater running shorts for you too:
Oh! I love that tank top and sleeves! With the shoes!!
I have no need for the mittens or hat and don't really like running in skirts... But I need the tank, sleeves and shoes! Doesn't matter that I can't run until January - I may just decide to wear it all of January anyway when I can run again!2 -

What turtle are these made from? I mean there are leatherback turtles which presumably make leather, and then there’s tortoiseshell from their landlubber cousins, but furry turtles?
On another note, I just looked them up in the U.K. There appears to be a ‘hand orientation’ option. What does that mean? Are there people with two left hands? Two right? Back to front?

And that is the real reason we run outside in the winter.
We are really limited right now - 2 days of freezing rain - started as ice pellets turned into rain then back to ice pellets and just to make the trails and roads more of a challenge it transitioned to snow.
Picture a layer of ice pellets that will break away like marbles under your foot sitting on top a layer of ice covered in snow. Just about dreadmill conditions. Most of our little club decided it was a good day week for cross training at the pool. So probably no runs for the rest of the week.
Usually we are -10 to -15C with lots of clear skies and bright sunshine at this time of year, so once the trails/roads get compacted or plowed in a few days they are fantastic. This promises at least 1-2 weeks of nasty conditions.
@7lenny7 glad to hear you are seeing a progressive in your healing and recovery. The K ster must be getting cabin fever from not running the trails.
Looking forward to see Santa Shuffle Fun Run Pictures with the special collection of Christmas Themed clothing. Now if you can find a hat/toque with LED flashing lights
Freezing rain is a Memphis specialty, usually we get one or two bouts every year of being encased in ice. I tried to run on it last year and my Brooks Cascadias just did not have traction for the task. This year I have a pair of beat up Goretex shoes which I'm going to make into screw shoes, and see if that's better.
So I did some reading about deer, and it turns out the reason the park is full of bucks is that it's rutting season. So that's the reason we saw a bunch of bucks wandering around in broad daylight in the middle of the road giving people the stare down. They will probably be happy to pummel you if you mess with them. I'm just glad we didn't have an issue yesterday!2 -
All of a sudden I feel my ugly sweater running shirt is waaaay too understated.

Despite being "wooed" on here (haha, I know, probably meant as encouragement), I went for an easy bike ride with my son before he went to school, and just made my November goal. The 5k run was my feeble attempt at a tempo run. My effort during the middle 15 minutes was harder, but due to a fast (but it felt easy?) start and well-placed hills/trail, the pace chart isn't what I was aiming for. Oh well. It kinda wiped me out!

@MegaMooseEsq I think I shared this picture before (here or in the FB group), but after reading your list I just have to post it again:
Also, I had to grin because I have never heard the term "butt-coat" before, and now I'm imagining some kind of wind-tight cape that you tie around your waist
7 -
@polskagirl01 I don't know who "wooed" your post, but I just added an "inspiring". Because I read it this morning during breakfast and decided I should take the bike to work. My first bike ride in November!
Okay, it was also one of the first mornings in November without snow or rain, but without reading your post I might still have defaulted to the car after four weeks of (partly) weather-justified lazyness.
It's cold, but I have some gloves that work amazingly well for cycling, so I didn't freeze too much.4 -

Yes i can.... Silly furry turtle pooping treats for runners.. the runners gobbling them up in a Pac-Man fashion. The turtle would be mysteriously sexy. He'd always beat the hare. Maybe be the most mysterious turtle on Earth...4 -
Hello folks, my running has fallen by the wayside really badly since the middle of the month. I've being suffering with constant back and neck pain which is not letting me sleep. I've had one massage a fortnight ago and getting a second today. If it's not eased by Monday I'm going to the doctor to see if they'll refer me or give me anti-inflammatory or something. I know it's caused by bad posture hunched at the computer for too long but it doesn't usually last this long. Enough moaning! But definitely will be getting some miles in December10

Which are only $20 on Amazon.

One of my fun 5ks offered a Mrs Claus set. I bought it. I don't care about the tutu (wore enough of those in ballet) but wanted the sleeves and socks.2

@amymoreorless You need the Christmas Tree to be built as a cape that hangs off your shoulders and Flows out behind you so it keeps your Knee-Leg movement free. A few Flashing Dog Safety Collars attached and you are set.

i just wear some light gloves. my hands get very sweaty
did another little putzy mile
this is the look i'm getting from speed demon when i blow my nose.
nonrunning-how sick am i-story. lost my car keys. speed demon had jumped the gate and was stuck on the stairs when i got home so i rushed in to rescue her. then the foster was terrorizing the crate.
so i went to leave to teach the aerial yoga classes. can't find my keys. no time-grab my spares and go
come home and do my mile dashing from one place to the other. upstairs, down stairs from one side to the other of the house. check my coat pockets, check my vest, check my pants and leggings. no keys. decide it's a lost cause.
this morning when i pull into work, put my spares in my coat pocket. pocket feels weird. original pair of keys found in my coat pocket.
you guys i've discovered a wormhole. in. my. coat. pocket.
it's the only explanation as i checked that pocket a million times

you're actually better off putting the handwarmer by the wrist - that's where the veins reach the surface, and you will get warmer fingers quicker. Like this (but maybe not fingerless!!)

Got out today for another "icicles in the beard" run. Maybe I am too harsh on myself for yesterday, but I thought the footing was just too dangerous. Today I spent most of my time on the road, dodging cars. At any rate, made my goal.8 -

NOPE.
I have tried that. Does not work. I have to apply the heat directly to the fingertips.0 -
Tuesday's 2 mile run was supposed to be today, now that I got my training plan fixed. So today's run was Tuesday's plan: 2.79 miles with the dogs. I took it easy, trying to keep my heart rate below "zone 5" - HA! I'm too out of shape apparently. About 50/50 between zones 4 and 5 according to Garmin. Probably too soon for me to use that as a gauge.
November goal was 28 miles. After this morning, I have 27.23. So Close!

I lost a single running glove once (stuffed them into my pocket after getting warmed up, never noticed when one of them fell out). I bought a pair of the same model again, and am keeping the right one as a "spare". Of course, most likely the next time I lose one, it will be the left again, and I will end up with two spare right gloves
