π my doctor pinched my stomach and said I was overweight and " had more than I needed"
So that really bummed me out but I decided to finally start using this resource to track my food and get excited about losing weight π
Which seems super complected right now.. but in the process I hope to find people that motivate me and I can't wait to read all of your success stories.
So, what's your reason for being here?

I was seriously in shock! But of course I didn't say anything... Just sat there feeling uncomfortable for the rest of the visit8

If the doctor had used calipers to assess the fat, would that bother you?
And, OP, your doctor didn't call you fat. "Overweight" is a medical term. It's not an aesthetic or moral judgment. Did you want the doctor to pretend you're not overweight?34 -

It REALLY depends on the delivery. Doctors are not exempt from being *kitten*. Regardless, the way in which he assessed and told her made her uncomfortable for the rest of her visit, which is reason enough to consider it improper. I've certainly never had a doctor pinch my stomach, and I've been very overweight.13 -
pinching fat vs. using calipers (that is an agreed upon assessment) are completely different (calipers taking information from multiple spots on the body to determine an overall view vs. a singular pinch) - and zero doctors in my experience have offered to do that - i have to go to a personal trainer (or similar person) to get such information
so yes, if it was unasked for/not agreed from - i'd be searching for a new doctor9 -

No he didn't use the word "fat" it's implied though π I forgot there is always one of ~you~ commenting on people's posts βοΈ I weight 135 and yeah I could lose about 10 bl and... That's why I'm here π20 -
Hi there. I guess several reasons I'm here. I have gained/lost a number of time over the years. Have an upper limit and I pretty much just won't go beyond and reached that last May. Also saw some pics of me that that size on May 10th , so that pretty much got me started.
I'm 50, so figured it's time I got really serious about my health going forward. Honestly, even though I was wayyy too big, I didn't have any significant health problems, but could imagine them from where I was.
My Dr would mention my weight occasionally, but never got especially excited about it - he's pretty level headed and just good all around. Anyway, I happened to be there last only about a week after I started losing and then went for my annual checkup last week. The flip side of him not getting after me too much to lose weight is that he was pretty nonchalant about me having lost over 70 lbs in 7 months. Haha, it cuts both ways with him.
Anyhow, good luck with this. I saw your Boro thread, too - don't live there, but am about an hour away in Winchester.
Oh yeah, told my kids I was getting abs when I started this in May, and of course they had a little laugh at that. Not laughing now - I'm gonna do that just to show them I can. Maybe 20 more lbs.

OK, so the doctor's delivery sucked.
If that's the worst problem you have with the doctor, you are doing better than 90% of people here.
The vast majority of doctors won't say anything for fear of offending.
Heck, my former doctor might have been close to 400#
He died.
Lesson learned.
My new doctor was kinda wishy washing about it. "Errr, you could stand to lose a few pounds" and I was at least 70 pounds overweight.
So you have two things in the positive ledger here. First, your doctor isn't afraid/cares enough to say things that may be offensive.
Second, you only have 10 pounds to lose as per your self reporting.
Celebrate that your doctor cares and that your hill to climb is much smaller than many if not most who are here.
Or you could *kitten* and moan about it...
Your choice.
Edited to add, on to your questions.
Why am I here? Well, in February, I was suspected/diagnosed as diabetic. Fasting Blood Sugar of 180mg/dL and an A1C value of 7.3
Today, I'm about 50# lighter give or take, and my fast blood sugar values on most mornings are in the normal range or slightly above ranging from 85-105mg/dL and my last A1C was 5.1, very much normal.
I have 20-25# to go to get to my leaving the Army a generation ago weight.
I wasn't able to outwork my fork. So even though I was working out 4-6 days a week, including 100km bike rides on some weekends, I was still ranging between 260-270# at 5'11"
The wake up call was the diabetes concern.
Might have been avoided if a doctor would have been a bit more offensive with respect to my weight.23 -
I'm not usually a delicate, easily offended flower (if you couldn't tell) but if my doctor (I'll go ahead and say it - particularly my male doctor) pinched my stomach as part of a routine exam and commented on my weight, I'd be spitting mad, and not because he said I was overweight. My weight is right there in my chart. No pinching of any body parts required to make a diagnosis. It's unprofessional, unwarranted, and unwelcome physical contact if it happened as described by the OP, particularly if no one else was present at the time.15

How tall are you OP? How did this belly pinching come about? The whole situation seems weird....11

was going to comment but then I noticed OP's profile has vanished lol2

Why would you not just delete the thread with (presumably) your pic on it, as opposed to closing your account and leaving the thread intact?0

The same reason as you, though he didn't need to pinch, it was pretty damn visible1 -
I am here for a number of reasons. I am 35 6'1 and weigh 390. I have high blood pressure, I have lowered kidney function, I am sure I have sleep apnea. I am a teacher and was doing a weight loss challenge at work and well I had been sick and hit 390...the biggest I have ever been. I did a lot of reading on here and have figured out how to do this so I am taking it slow. I have had Dr's tell me I am fat and no it is not a pleasant conversation and something no one likes to hear. It was never enough for me to stop getting in my way so kudos to you to use it as motivation. I wish you luck as you work your way through your journey.2

I'm 5"1 and I weight 135 lb. I certainly don't think that he meant it in a sexual way or anything like that but it was definitely awkward and uncomfortable. The fact is that he said I was overweight and that's pretty much all you needed to say for me to start doing something about it.
After he said I was overweight and I acknowledged it he reached for my stomach, pinched it with his hand, have it two light pulls and he said ".. You have more than you need" and that's the part that made me feel uncomfortable and awkward. I certainly have never had a doctor tug my fat before it was my first time seeing him too. I know people are going to say that I'm weak or easily offended but him going that extra step made me feel pretty bad about my stomach and confidence π
Anyway it happened, it's done, and I'm doing something about it ππ9 -

I do hope you share with him that you would appreciate a more professional approach, such as calipers and an actual measurement.
If you are silent, he won't learn anything.
If you just walk away, others may be subject to the same treatment.
It's on him, I'm not saying otherwise.
I do think you could do society a big favor by pointing it out.
If he responds well and says, yes, I can see how that could be threatening, he's a keeper.
If not, you know what to do.
Sucks to be in that circumstance, for sure. It's a test/opportunity to find out if it were a faux pas, or a real character defect in the man.

I am sorry to hear that the Dr. has a poor bed side manner!
Hope you are okay.....?2 -

What your Dr. did was unprofessional and icky. It's fine if you want to lose a few lbs, but I'd lose that Dr. too.7 -
Yeah. I'm not sure I get the outrage towards the doctor to be honest.
I mean he did a fairly standard pinch test and provided an observation, hardly unprofessional. In fact that's exactly his profession. To notice, confirm and advice on health factors so I'd see it as the epitome of professionalism in that he's taking a genuine interest in his patients well-being and not just treating immediate symptoms and shoving them out the door.
